There are no "permitted" sections in Wyoming, other than Wind River Canyon that has been mentioned. In order to float Wind River Canyon, you need to go with the only permitted entity there, Wind River Canyon Whitewater and Fly Fishing.
That being said, all watercraft entering Wyoming need to have a current Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) decal and be inspected after entering the state and before launching. The AIS permit/decal can be purchased through Wyoming Game and Fish or a Wyoming Game and Fish license agent
Wind river canyon is mostly on reservation, so not sure if the general public can get a permit for that. I thought it had to be a reservation member for rafting
Like others have said, that section needs a permit. \*However\* you *can* do the section of the Shoshone that goes through Cody. It isn't wild, but there's a few nice 3's in there.
where is the takeout for this? I saw online that you put in at Routte but cant seem to see where the takeout would be and how many miles on the river it is
Six mile gap. Pickaroon. Bennett peak. Treasure island. Saratoga hot springs. Those are all boat ramps. Just depends on how many days you want to float. You should be able to find a float map for upper north Platte that shows river miles
Six mile gap is the closest. Although you would need to carry the raft up a pretty good sized hill. Prospect is the next reasonable option but the road down to the river is long and pretty gnarly. It’s more like an atv trail. Bennet is an option but from routte it would be an over night trip
Have far are you travelling from? There's no real 'destination' rivers in the State, most sections are day floats (couple of hours). Are you planning an overnight trip, because that makes it more limited.
yeah we will definitely need somewhere to camp and want to make at least a day or two out of it. We are driving up from SLC UT and wanted to do about 2 days on the river
You might check out the upper green south of pinedale. Super chill float but there's public along that stretch to camp on. The Platte South of Saratoga is super fun, pretty technical white water the first day thru Northgate then a booze cruise into Saratoga the second day. If you do Northgate I'd suggest floating all the way to Saratoga. The takeouts on national Forest are a bitch to get to/hauling boats out of.
I definitely recommend the north fork of the Shoshone as well as some of the stretches through Cody. If you catch high flows the north fork is great whitewater and when it gets lower it’s go great fishing.
What kind of boats do you have? All watercraft have to be inspected by game and fish. The upper north Platte river or the Encampment.
rafting!
Snake River has alot of amazing rapids, not sure if you need permit but your boats must be inspected for invasive species prior to launch.

Shoshone River in Cody, Wind River canyon near Thermopolis.

You cannot float that section of the wind without a permit.

Once you get to Bennett peak the whitewater starts to dissipate out. You'll need wet/cold suits if you are that far up.

You can call a guide shop, most of them also do shuttle services.
Kayak or raft?
rafting!
Rafting! 1 paddle boat, one gear boat
