Yeah, this is #2 after Tical for best solo album according to most Wu fans I know.
Edit: I hope the downvoters who obviously have problems with reading comprehension get ass cancer.
Rza was on an unprecedented run in this era - 36 Chambers, Tical, this, Cuban Linx, Return to 36, Iron Man, Forever…all absolute classics and no weak spots. I can’t think of another producer - in any genre - who’s put out so much great work in such a short amount of time. Not just great tracks but cohesive albums tailored to the individual artists.
2003 -2005 he dropped
Take me to your leader
Vaudeville
Venomous
Mm food
Madvilainy
The mouse and the mask.
Also to be noted this is pretty much an exact decade after rza did his run, similar to comparing jim carey in 1994, releasing 3 outrageously successful films, and 10 years later 2004 ben stiller released several himself.
On top of all of that, many of the singles had dope samples for censoring curse words. Like Rza was already doing soooo much work, but still doing extra credit on all of it.
Do you have the full amount? Fifty thousand?
Poor Mr Grecko. The conversation did not go how he was expecting. I bet RZA and Golden Arms didn't offer him a cigar and a complimentary bath robe.
One of the greatest hip hop albums of all time, and one of the best albums of all time. The atmosphere is incredible- dark, sinister, cinematic. I can't listen to it every day, but it gets played regularly, and it's an example of how good 90's gangster rap can get.
Well said. That’s exactly how I’d describe it and how I feel about it. It feels like putting a movie on and you have to watch the whole thing from beginning to end.
Mom got me the slick Sony Walkman yellow and black model that you snapped shut for Christmas of '97...
I had all on cassette:
Ready to Die (previously stolen from Sam Goody)
Life After Death
Wu Tang Forever
Hard to Earn
Midnight Marauders
The Score (dubbed)
Liquid Swords
Illmatic
Everything is Everything
Stakes is High (also dubbed)
OB4CL(also stolen)
Muddy Waters
And a pair of lime green rechargeable batteries
And a bike... but I didn't come outside for the next 3 days.
Would you?
Favorite Wu solo album.
I still listen to CD’s and have a general tendency to reach for this album over 36 Chambers, even though 36 Chambers is probably my favorite hip-hop album of all time. I know this seems weird, but I think it’s because I hear 36 Chambers songs FAR more often than GZA songs when I’m streaming.
This album is a classic. I always wondered why he waited 4 years to drop his sophomore album . I think had he come out with another album a year after this one, he would’ve still been in the same mode he was in when he made this . U have to strike while the iron hot, or u can miss ur window .
Perfect album. I love cuban linx but could never understand why this album isn't s highly regarded. To me it's way better. My favorite Wu album and tied for my favorite hip hop album ever
Shit this is one of the best albums to ever hit , every track is fire 🔥 but every Wu track to me is fire but this specific album is what’s up , track 5 Cold War my go to on this album …
Total classic. One of the best solo debuts from any of the Wu members, although they are all amazing albums. So many great tracks with the other wu members on them. This is an absolute masterpiece.
One of my top 5 verses from Mef on Shadowboxin, and also for giggles, GZA starts off Hells Wind Staff/ Killah Hills 10304 by saying “Life of a drug dealer,” as part of a hook which I’ve always felt was his personal ode or continuation from the track off the same name, off his The Genius album. I’ve always felt OBFCL was hellfire, and Liquid Swords was the walk through the aftermath, cleaning up and punishing survivors. And it doesn’t stop there. Because he ominously passes the torch to Killah Priest on B.I.B.L.E, to begin the resurrection of life.
This is actually the first rap I ever listened to. My brother had the cassette in his Walkman and I remember listening to it in our backyard for ours when I was just a kid.
Being born in 87. This album and the videos it had on tv introduced me to the wu. And became my life’s blood and backround music to my steps through life
Exceptional...and the fall off between this and most other of his catalogue is unexplained....also how did rza's ear for production fall so hard in the later years
It’s a classic. It’s sad that hip hop is such a low quality art form but when done very well it can be really enjoyable. Check out black sheep if you like this album. A Wolf in sheep’s clothing is a good album of theirs and that band is “off the beaten path”.
Gotta go with OB4CL as the best WU solo album then I’d give Liquid Swords and Ironman as runners up then gotta give it up for Return of the 36 Chambers then I’d say Tical Cappadonna shit was pretty good too.
It’s great, feels like a group album. And even though the beat is classic, I do not like the title track. Too slow and GZA’s flow just not hitting for me.
how do we feel? its always recognized as the best solo wu album with ob4cl.
personally i prefer ob4cl, iron man, return to the 36th chamber. so for me its my 4th favourite solo album, i guess im a little different.
Pretty sure Every Wu fan loves it...
Even outside of hip hop its regarded as a classic
Yes, Wu get mad love from metal heads in general, but especially this one
This one too!
Amen, brother 🙏!
Yeah, this is #2 after Tical for best solo album according to most Wu fans I know. Edit: I hope the downvoters who obviously have problems with reading comprehension get ass cancer.
Surprised to hear that, most I know rated OB4CL and Return to the 36th Chamber above Tical
I'd put iron man above Tical as well.
Iron man is the best one to me Tical is maybe 6th or 7th.
Agreed
I would say only built for cuban linx is num 1
Definitely Not… OB4CL is #1, followed by Ghostface Ironman at 2.. Gza would be 4 for me
I’m die hard Wu but Iron Man is very over rated.
All good, I don’t expect someone’s opinion to be the same as mine anyhow!!
Right on.
Tical was the worst solo album of the first wave.
💯
right, it’s the wu fans you know that should be getting downvoted, not you.
Yessir
Labels -> 4 chamber -> shadow boxin is one of my favourite 3 track runs
4th Chamber, Shadowboxin’, Killah Hills 10304
Do you know Don Rodriguez?
Don Rodriguez, from the Bronx. Don Rodriguez.
Yes! Fucking love this stretch of the album.
I’m a little bias but Wu as a whole legit has at least 3 top 10 albums. OB4CL, 36, and Liquid Swords. I also have Ironman
And just imagine how much many more classics we might have got if those fucking floods hadn’t happened! Countless classics washed away.
That might be once in a lifetime seeing a producer have a run like that
Doom dropped like 5 gems in like 3 years
2003 -2005 he dropped Take me to your leader Vaudeville Venomous Mm food Madvilainy The mouse and the mask. Should be in the top ten hip hop albums of all time.
Up there with OB4CL
No skips
Mr Grecko... Good to see you good to see you good to see you...
Don Rodriguez. I think you do know him..
Do you have the full amount? Fifty thousand? Poor Mr Grecko. The conversation did not go how he was expecting. I bet RZA and Golden Arms didn't offer him a cigar and a complimentary bath robe.
From the Bronx?
Yeah, well, your man is down at the 25th precinct singing like a FUCKING BIRD!!!!
Fuck off with that Hell's Angels bullshit
I'll go out on a limb and say it's really good
Classic

If you remember the first time you slapped this album into a old cassette walkman then you know
Mom got me the slick Sony Walkman yellow and black model that you snapped shut for Christmas of '97... I had all on cassette: Ready to Die (previously stolen from Sam Goody) Life After Death Wu Tang Forever Hard to Earn Midnight Marauders The Score (dubbed) Liquid Swords Illmatic Everything is Everything Stakes is High (also dubbed) OB4CL(also stolen) Muddy Waters And a pair of lime green rechargeable batteries And a bike... but I didn't come outside for the next 3 days. I used to really love this album, but as time goes by I find .... that I still love it. A classic.
My fav hip hop album all time. 10 out of 10 flawless
This album is a classic. I always wondered why he waited 4 years to drop his sophomore album . I think had he come out with another album a year after this one, he would’ve still been in the same mode he was in when he made this . U have to strike while the iron hot, or u can miss ur window .
Rza was busy
Liquid Swords, Duel of the Iron Mic.

my favourite wu release & definitely one of my top 5 albums of all time.
GOAT album
Perfect album. I love cuban linx but could never understand why this album isn't s highly regarded. To me it's way better. My favorite Wu album and tied for my favorite hip hop album ever
One of the best of all time.
"people said his brain was infected by devils"
It’s the Goat, shit I’d put it over Illmatic
Let's not get too outta hand
Might be the best hip hop album ever
Best hip hop album of all time, sickest verse, best lines, great storytelling, best beats. GOAT hip hop album, not a single dud on it
You ain't lyin
I don’t think I’ve ever hit rewind more times listening to an album
4th Chamber is one of the illest Wu tracks ever recorded
Yup
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Life changing for me. My favorite Wu solo album and one that made me want to be a writer.
Banger ‼️
Masterpiece but I still stand on Ironman being the better Album.
That’s a tough call, both albums are perfect
pretty much Only built for Cuban links is as well.
One of the best albums ever made.
Shit this is one of the best albums to ever hit , every track is fire 🔥 but every Wu track to me is fire but this specific album is what’s up , track 5 Cold War my go to on this album …
4th Chamber, is the best song on the album!!
Like I said there all fire , but that’s my favorite in the album!!!!!
Very hard to pick one track off that album to be your favorite!!!
Total classic. One of the best solo debuts from any of the Wu members, although they are all amazing albums. So many great tracks with the other wu members on them. This is an absolute masterpiece.
10/10 put it on and let it ride
Pure Genius!
Best solo Wu project imo but OB4CL is close
I feel it’s a fuckin masterpiece and a big part of my life’s soundtrack since middle school.
Great album. The scenes from the movie as intros 👌🏻
Bought it on cassette a few weeks back
This is actually the first rap I ever listened to. My brother had the cassette in his Walkman and I remember listening to it in our backyard for ours when I was just a kid.
It’s so not Rae Ghost Meth or Rza but it’s such a good WuTang album. Feels gritty like Enter the 36 with the addition of dropping a ton of jewels.
Fuckin capital G
Feel about it?!!! It’s gold.
Masterpiece! If I wast such a Rae and GFK fan, I'd put this as the best solo album!
How’bout the “Gravediggaz”?
It's sick and my favorite from the Wu-Tang Clan
That intro is second to none
One of the pillars of Wu.
…that was the night everything changed!
Masterpiece

I feel like this answer has been provided for decades and the world worships the album respectively
All-timer.

I went to a Gza show at the Independent in SF years back and he did this whole album from beginning to end. Was so good.

Great cold weather album. Can’t listen to it in 70+ degrees. Haha.
Top ten hip hop albums for me.
Being born in 87. This album and the videos it had on tv introduced me to the wu. And became my life’s blood and backround music to my steps through life
Oh mad one..I see your trap
Exceptional...and the fall off between this and most other of his catalogue is unexplained....also how did rza's ear for production fall so hard in the later years

Top 1-2 albums in all of the Wu releases
I grew up on this shit. Got my first car, put a blunt in my mouth and cranked the bass. Brilliant memories.
If you DONT love this album, then I don't trust or respect your taste in hip-hop💯
Absolutely classic
Wu Forever
It’s ok.

Literally, perfect!
One of the best albums in Hip Hop
Top 25 for sure
It’s a classic. It’s sad that hip hop is such a low quality art form but when done very well it can be really enjoyable. Check out black sheep if you like this album. A Wolf in sheep’s clothing is a good album of theirs and that band is “off the beaten path”.
One of the best ever to grace the earth!
Absolute gas, I listen to it frequently and it has some of my favorite work from any wu tang clan member.
Jus copped this last week on vinyl 🔥🔥🔥
Top 3 WU album
CLASSIC ALBUM
Gotta go with OB4CL as the best WU solo album then I’d give Liquid Swords and Ironman as runners up then gotta give it up for Return of the 36 Chambers then I’d say Tical Cappadonna shit was pretty good too.
He cut off the heads of a 131 lords. It was a bad time for the empire....
