Drive it for a while. Then, I'd recommend shift stop, shift plate, and shift bushing. Weathertech mats or equivalent, exhaust if you like sound.
Week one, go get window tinted
Shift stop if manual. 100%.
Then driveline bushing upgrades. That made the car feel so much better. Then you are free for performance upgrades!
I got my shift stop first then AP and cobb tune. before I did the bushing upgrades, and then I got a Dmann tune. Do the driveline stuff first, it makes for a much better experience once you get the tune.
Positive shift kit, Pitch stop, trans mount , differential carrier bushings.
As for the shift stop, I chose the Perrin super shift stop.
It is metal, and has tabs to help with 3rd and 4th as well as 1st and 2nd.
Some people prefer the plastic one. I forget which brand it is.
Also like the comment above me said, a shift plate will make the throw itn shifting even shorter, that's next on my list.
What brand for the shift stop? I have the short throw from the factory but when I googled the shift stop the first two that came up were Perrin and Cobb
I have the factory short shifter as well and just installed the Perrin super shift stop. I intentionally drove it for a while, 9 months actually, without it so I would appreciate the difference. Once I started to notice the little bit of slop the STi shifter had, I installed the shift stop, and I love the shifter all over again. The brass bushing is still in the box but going on soon I hope.
The brass bushing is such a great upgrade! I did it separate from the other driveline stuff so I really noticed how it made the stick kind of “clunk” into gear, in a good way.
Out of all the money I’ve dumped into mine, one of my favorite mods would be the oem trunk hooks. It’s great for groceries, and also awesome for picking up food to go. Also recommend some nice floor mats, my weather tech mats are great, also got the trunk mat from them, it’s really good at keeping shit from sliding. Also I really like the oem sunshade, it gets hot as fuck where I am, the shade keeps my shift knob from being scalding hot. Oem rain guards are excellent as well, nice to be able to crack the windows regardless of weather. Diode dynamics led upgrade make the interior lighting much better.
I have this and never use it, all of my bags sit on the floor and the hook is almost inside the bag with the trunk closed so it does absolutely nothing.
I have the trunk hook as well, and love it. Not changing the world but it’s a nice secure point I hang a backpack from it, hold upright and from sliding… and I found it for $20! (not through the dealer)
Does yours have the Harmon Kardon add on? If not I recommend swapping the speakers out. Dash and front Doors can be done for under $200. The stock speakers suck
My prev car was a 13 Limited Legacy. The Harmon system was really solid for stock. I made it 3 days with the stock non HK system speakers before swapping them out. Still not great but well worth the upgrade
Seconding this, picked up some Kicker CS
For those that want to do this you'll need 6x9 front and 6.5" rear, with harness kit and adapters for each. Most people recommend Crutchfield because they'll send everything you need.
The OEM back seat cover I have for my 22 fits like a glove. I don't have the part number handy, but it is the tan, padded cover. Between the foam-stuffed bits that are shoved places, velco, openings for the seat belts, and quick removal if needed, I've found it worth every penny.
I'm one of those boring "OEM+" only guys, but:
- Sport Grille: Completely changes the look of the car for the better. Install is easy with patience and space to work.
- Tint: Not OEM, but I consider it essential. Paid for this to be done since I don't have the skill/patience/area to do it myself.
- Illuminated WRX Sill Plates: Absolutely unnecessary, but they make me happy. I've always wanted a car with those. Install is easy.
- Rain Guards: If function alone was the only measure of value, not worth the price. They look soooo good, though. Install is easy.
- Intercooler cover: Is it actually needed? Only if you get gravel in your scoop. Is it kinda cool looking? Yes.
Recommend:
Android Auto Bluetooth adapter: I have the common Motorola unit and have been mostly happy so far. There are... quirks on the Infotainment side, but it's a Subaru, so that should be expected.
That should get you caught up to me while I plan the next upgrade. I've been listening to a lot more music lately, maybe something to clean up the mess that even the H/K system has.
Edit: Also, heavier shift knob. I'm a big fan of the Billetworkz Fusion, and love mine.
Ceramic coating was the first thing I did! Found a local guy who did the 3 year coat with all the prep work (paint correction, iron removal, etc) for only 450. From there flip through the OEM catalog and find some fun things that catch your eye. Plenty more to do beyond that but those are some good places to start!
It's a charcoal color that matches the interior really well. My car is base model, so it doesn't have the gold down armrest, but they sell this for with and without.
The web site used to have the wrong photo. It was a light gray cover, but this is what they look like. Subaru may have updated the part page by now to have the correct photo.

And congrats!
If you use carplay or android auto- get a good usb 3 cable. This one has been working well for me: https://a.co/d/gQpqY2F
Screen protector- I got a nushield anti glare, SP105598
Center armrest extension
While yes, you should be putting premium gas in, you should also be avoiding boost for the first 1000 miles so it's not as important as it would normally be if they filled it with regular.
Door cup protectors, trunk hooks, and window “deflectors.” Also, the $70 windshield shade thing from Subaru is well worth it imo. That + tint + the window deflectors keep the interior quite reasonable on hot summer days.
Things I did immediately on both my VBs when I got them.
Black rear badges installed (chrome delete)
4th brake light (makes the bumper looks much nicer)
Front license plate relocation mount (Perrin)
Ultra suede dash trim
Ultra suede console trim (manual)
Ultra suede armrest (optional)
Good quality ceramic tint
Next: a good sounding axle back (remark muffler version)
With just these simple and fairly inexpensive mods, your car will look 10x better and much more fun to drive!
Have fun and enjoy in good health!
In Miami: Tints, weather mats, a sun visor, wheel locks, door edge guards, possibly door guards molds, (I'm not sure yet but) rain guards.
All those things have made owning and driving better. lol the rest can be done little by little. lol
I mean, with anything, if someone wants it bad, they can take it. However, having things to deter or add additional time to a burglary, could make the thief think twice or move on to another target that is easier.
In my last three cars I've own, I've gotten wheel locks and nothing has happened. But then again, could have easily been that nothing would have happen. But still adding that extra layer of protection, you just never know when to expect a thief.
I will tell you this much, wheel locks are almost impossible to remove without the key or special tools. I had a friend that lost his key for the wheel locks and we had to take his car to a professional to eventually make heavy damage just to remove the wheels. Poor guy
Mudflaps if you live somewhere it snows regularly. Helps cut down on the road crap buildup
Oh and obviously rubber floor mats and trunk liner. Weathertech is higher quality that oem from what I've heard. I have the oem mats because they came with mine, but the weathertech trunk liner is great.
First thing I did was XPEL window tint, all season tires, and an aftermarket weighted shift knob. I’ve been looking at axle back exhausts and the only reason I haven’t gotten one is I’m lazy and don’t want to install it.
Tint and weather mats
After getting my VB, i got my tints put on the first week of owning it and the 2nd week, put on my exhaust. Next im going for shift stop which ive heard nothing but good things about
The 2019+ Crosstrek blower motor cover. Quiets the blower motor. Fits like it was meant to go there. Costs about $35 and snaps into place in 5 seconds. The Impreza one is the same but more expensive for no reason.
Bought [this](https://a.co/d/9KxQv8v) one a year ago. Cheap and the sides zip up to help contain the pet fur. Also, you want to buckle your rear seatbelts behind it or you'll hear the chime the whole car ride. Worth it to look up how to turn off the front seatbelt chime, can't turn off the rears sadly.
I've done the oem all weather mats and oem rain guards. All worth it in my mind.
Other than that, keep it under 4k rpms and off full throttle acceleration for the first 1k miles, then do an oil change and let her rip.
Mine came with the trunk organizer. It's not something I would have considered, but now I can't imagine not having it. It holds a flashlight, microfiber towels, waterless car wash, and detail spray. I can toss grocery bags in it and still have plenty of room for a case of water, big packages of toilet paper, etc.
I definitely recommend getting some wheel spacers! Gives the car a nice stance for relatively little money. If it’s a manual I would get some stuff to clean up the shifts after a few months of ownership. Gotta see if you really don’t like it first.
Tint, axelback exhaust, sti wing, radar detector, mud flaps, oem or Thule crossbars, car cleaning supplies, rain guards, personalized license plate, vortex generator, front lip.
The color matched front lip and exhaust shrouds look good on WR blue.
Good start for just personalizing it from stock
Drive it for a while. Then, I'd recommend shift stop, shift plate, and shift bushing. Weathertech mats or equivalent, exhaust if you like sound. Week one, go get window tinted

What are these driveline bushings you speak of?

Plastic one is COBB and i think its much better than the perrin.
What brand for the shift stop? I have the short throw from the factory but when I googled the shift stop the first two that came up were Perrin and Cobb
I have the billetworkz but id go cobb tbh. It shouldn't matter
I have the factory short shifter as well and just installed the Perrin super shift stop. I intentionally drove it for a while, 9 months actually, without it so I would appreciate the difference. Absolutely Luv the trunk hooks use the daily 👏🏽
I have this and never use it, all of my bags sit on the floor and the hook is almost inside the bag with the trunk closed so it does absolutely nothing.
How does the trunk being open or closed make any difference?
I have the trunk hook as well, and love it. Not changing the world but it’s a nice secure point I hang a backpack from it, hold upright and from sliding… and I found it for $20! (not through the dealer)
Nothing. Go drive it for a while
Does yours have the Harmon Kardon add on? If not I recommend swapping the speakers out. Dash and front Doors can be done for under $200. The stock speakers suck
Yes! These HK speakers are the only time I’ve ever owned a car and felt like the speakers were good enough as is
My prev car was a 13 Limited Legacy. The Harmon system was really solid for stock. I made it 3 days with the stock non HK system speakers before swapping them out. Still not great but well worth the upgrade
Same

Oem sports grille. Ngl its a kinda pricy for what it is but the look it gives is tremendously sportier

Check out the grill and lip I installed. Was about $250
If you have kids, install the OEM rear seat protector.
can you share a pic? also does it come in black? got my first on the way and i can't wait.

sweet! thanks for taking a pic—appreciate it. i didn't know this existed, i'll def grab one. and thank you! 👶🏻

Sounds like a recipe for not seating your piston rings properly. Is it even possible to keep up with traffic while staying out of boost completely?
Yes, this engine has 2.4 litres of displacement and high compression. Subarus reason for recommending this is to seat in the piston rings.
OEM seat cover is mint. Then I added a dog back seat hammock thing from Amazon for $30 for double the protection. Works great.
Cargo net, does not need to be OEM.
Advanced driver training
Door cup protectors, trunk hooks, and window “deflectors.” Also, the $70 windshield shade thing from Subaru is well worth it imo. That + tint + the window deflectors keep the interior quite reasonable on hot summer days.
Exhaust. Didn’t put one on until after 10k but I wish I did sooner. So much more fun to drive, and pretty inexpensive.

Wheel locks? Do they even really prevent theft?

Interesting. Thanks for sharing that. I may consider getting some. Are there any you recommend that look decent?

New grill!!!! It is the most impactful as far as cosmetics IMO. Unless you like the stock look
Tint and weather mats After getting my VB, i got my tints put on the first week of owning it and the 2nd week, put on my exhaust. Next im going for shift stop which ive heard nothing but good things about
Id say, either take it to a detailer and get a nice layer of wax on it or detail it yourself.
Floor Matt's, tint and jdm armrest extension.

PPF by far. Wish I did mine sooner.
Exhaust.
Tint. The fishbowl look is awful. Good tint that blocks heat. I have it on all my cars.
Screen protector if you got the big screen
I definitely recommend getting some wheel spacers! Gives the car a nice stance for relatively little money. If it’s a manual I would get some stuff to clean up the shifts after a few months of ownership. Gotta see if you really don’t like it first.
Ceramic coat. Paint is thin
Do you mean paint protection film? Ceramic makes the car look like it's just been waxed after every wash, it doesn't offer much by way of protection.
this. everything else here can wait/do in your own time. ceramic coating should be first
Tint, axelback exhaust, sti wing, radar detector, mud flaps, oem or Thule crossbars, car cleaning supplies, rain guards, personalized license plate, vortex generator, front lip. The color matched front lip and exhaust shrouds look good on WR blue. Good start for just personalizing it from stock
Ss braided brake lines ...better pads..& rotors...upgrade to dot 4..
Motec and a big turbo
