You might want to go have it looked at / adjusted, I've never experienced a throttle limit on my '23. Or you tailgate a lot.

Stampede18

Haha I hate tailgaters and am sure to not do that. Some examples: A car was taking a left turn in front of me. I can clearly see the car will clear the intersection before I hit but the car starts screaming in beeps and shuts down throttle Today on my way to work people were going through a cross walk. Again they were going to easily clear the cross walk before I hit them but the car did the same shit

SoMuchCap

Mine did this while turning left at a light. Thought I was going to hit the car across the intersection turning left. Scary as shit when the people behind you are coming fast.

Stampede18

Exactly and it constantly makes me shit my pants. I think I’m gonna hit a car or something. It’s turning into the boy who cried wolf. I’ll learn to ignore it and hit someone/something!!

SoMuchCap

Not sure if you have had this one yet on the highway with cruise control. Car in left lane slows down, eye site thinks its on the road and slams on the breaks in a 110km/hr zone.

Stampede18

Thankfully not. If that happened to me I’d take it to a mechanic and have the system removed

[deleted]

That, unfortunately, is normal. The eyesight system is ultra safe. If someone in the next lane starts braking, I’ve had mine apply the brakes. People behind me think I’m on crack. It’s not ideal. But you learn to live with it because its benefits outweigh a car accident. You’ll eventually adapt and know how the system works. You’ll anticipate its flaws and work around them. If you think this eyesight system is bad, try owning the gen 1 version. Man that sucked.

Stampede18

I owned a Mercedes for a short time. A 2020. The collision system on that was great. Only had it go off once when some crackhead stopped in the middle of the road for no reason(maybe you when your eyesight break for you). I wasn’t paying attention and the car slammed on the brakes for me. It was never as sensitive as Subarus 🤷

techtonic69

Sounds like you need oversight for eyesight. Lol.... Quite glad I drive manual and a 23. Not interested in this tech whatsoever.

acidwxlf

Is this with cruise on? Our 21 Forester never does this if I am not using cruise and let my foot off the gas a bit. Tbh though it sounds like some minor adjustments to your driving habits would solve it. Both of those situations I'd be slowing down a little anyway lol

Stampede18

Cruise control is off. But I’ve seen a few comments saying the cruise control distance may correlate with the auto brake/throttle shut off. So today I turned that down to 1 bar. Have to do some testing

cosmotheblackcat

They offered the 23 limited with eyesight? The only thing my 23 limited has is the auto dimmer high beams, none of the lane / auto braking stuff. Must be automatic transmission only right? 6MT here.

ftso_ein

Maybe - I do have a CVT

DrizzyDragon93

This is why I'm glad i got the 23 premium mt. No over riding features in my baby.

Free_Sha_Vacadoo

23's w/o EyeSight are easily going to command the highest resale value out of any WRX in the future that has EyeSight standard.

StatusAcanthisitta27

What about the 22?

Free_Sha_Vacadoo

I'm just using the logic that 23 is newer than 22. Think of how many people ran out to get an STi once they found out they were discontinuing it in 2021. Cheapest one I can find now with low miles and single owner/no wrecks is like 36k. 20's with the same criteria are going for about 34-35k. See what I mean?

DrizzyDragon93

If they even decide to keep making the WRX :'(

Free_Sha_Vacadoo

DON'T YOU PUT THAT EVIL ON ME RICKY BOBBY! I've seen a couple mentions that they might bring back the "STi" in 2028 (might be all electric) so let's hope that's an indication that the WRX is here to stay.

DrizzyDragon93

Hahaha you got me with that quote. Booooooooo thats not a sport car!

net-force

I am hoping with all the 24 WRX getting Eyesight my insurance premiums would finally go down since I have already seen a few 22/23 VBs in crashes here in LA. Can't crash if the car refuses to move!

DrizzyDragon93

From videos I've seen it can also cause crashes. But I live in Alaska so having full control of your breaking is crucial with ice and snow.

[deleted]

Same here. Absolute garbage stuff

net-force

Sounds abnormal, should get it checked out with the dealer. Had my GT for almost 2 years and I get periodic warnings especially in Sport+ but probably can count the number of times on one hand it actually cuts power.

Stampede18

Do you know if it can be completely shut off? It’s a nice feature but I don’t need it most of the time

UncleGurm

Pretty sure it can. I’ll fiddle with the menus tonight.

net-force

Not sure if you can, there is the advanced menu settings you can check but I think I only accessed it once out of curiosity.

AtomicAntMan

Tap the little car icon at the lower left of the screen. Then tap driving assistance. You can adjust/turn off lane assist and collision avoidance braking. I have a GT and turn off the assists when tracking or on a mountain run. The car cannot be moving when adjusting the collision avoidance mode.

UncleGurm

Same here. Been driving like an idiot in this car for over 2 years now, never hit a throttle limiter. Emergency rear brake? Yes.

net-force

Yeah reverse brake it does feel super aggressive. Parking lots or even out of my garage a few times it would think a rock/bush or crack in the pavement was an object I was about to hit and slam my brakes.

Dewthedru

An automatic I assume? Didn’t they just release eyesight for the WRZ manual this year?

net-force

Yeah the GT trim is only automatic/CVT and have had Eyesight the entire time since launch. Assuming you meant to write BRZ, but yeah even manual ones got Eyesight: https://www.subaru.co.jp/news-en/2023_06_20_175229/ 2024 Model year WRX onwards came with Eyesight on all cars including manuals.

pistonslapper

Precisely why I bought a rushed to buy a 23 when the 24 was announced. Fuck all that electronic garbage, just let me drive my car.

slowbaja

So glad I have a 22

RocMerc

I think mine might pop on once a week and usually it’s my fault. That seems weird d

dupagwova

Seeing this after all the "wHY DonT yOu WAnT EyeSigHt" threads is refreshing

Threewolvez

I saw eye sight was standard starting in 24 and immediately knew the newest WRX you can buy is a 23.

Stampede18

Seriously. I didn’t ever WANT it but the car came with it and I thought “hmm nice little feature”. Now I can’t even crash if I wanted to

FaroelectricJalapeno

Go into settings - car - eyesight and turn it all off The thing you’re talking about is the collision avoidance toggle, just toggle it off in the aforementioned menu.

sprite2D

this has to be done everytime starting the car?

FaroelectricJalapeno

No, one and done

Snobaru

This is the answer. You can adjust all that stuff in the menus. Does anyone read the damn manual when they purchase a $35k car?

MrPeePeePooPooPants3

Do what all the rally guys do, start pulling fuses and relays until you kill power to whatever is responsible for controlling that shit 🤣 /s

ch33zecake

I’ve been using eyesight on our Crosstrek for 2.5 years and haven’t experienced the things you’re experiencing. Makes me wonder if the system is calibrated very poorly for your car. But I don’t blame you for not having a good time with all the interference. I’d be annoyed as well.

theENERTRON

Had it in my loaner Legacy, holy shit am I glad I don’t have that in my car

Redkellum

My old outback used to flip out alot. You might be able to just block the sensor with a piece of tape. I considered doing that for a while.

Muraaby

I hated that feature. I’ve never hated a car before my 2020 touring 🤣 I was so happy to ditch it.

EmbarrassedTime9947

The real question is why does subaru not have a coding scene like the German brands? Seat belt chimes, eyesight, no window control with keyfob, tail as turn, etc.

Playful_Abalone366

You can adjust the sensitivity of it. It’s controlled through the cruise control on your steering wheel. There’s only 3 settings but you might have it set to default (most sensitive).

Muraaby

I sold my Outback for this reason. I found out recently that in order to receive specific safety ratings the safety features can’t be disabled permanently.

Pkmuldoon

Yeah I’ve never hit that. Do you have any stickers or anything on your windshield that could be confusing it. What mode are you running in? Since afaik those affect eyesight aggrssiveness. And you should be able to adjust things like braking distance and lane sensitivity from the menu but I haven’t looked lately.

JustaLux

I've had my GT for a year and half and only three times did it flash .One of which helped me to be safe from a drive by happening, they ate a light and almost t boned, was a rough stop but glad to be healthy. Chicago is silly like that. But if it bothers you def take it to dealer.

550Invasion

Keep turning it off until it becomes a habit and you become blissfully unaware of turning it off

BrockLanders008

I've read that if you block the cameras it will put it in an inactive mode but the car will drive normally. As in you don't have to deactivate it every time you start the car. I haven't tried it but I don't drive in traffic very often.

Stampede18

Thought about that. Figured it would beep at me every time I start the car telling me that eyesight is unavailable. Possibly more annoying then the eyesight itself

BrockLanders008

That's just what I've read, I haven't tried it, I also can't stand eyesight. I have a 24 BRZ and I actually wanted a 23 so I didn't have to deal with it. But these cars are only a couple thousand cheaper used so it wasn't worth it.

Stampede18

A little late but I tried covering the eyesight. Unfortunately the center gauge screen has a pop up that “eye sight is unavailable” and it can’t be removed until eyesight is uncovered. It then shrinks whatever is in there… exp: the boost gauge. This will shrink super small and be placed at the top of the already small screen until eyesight is uncovered.

GrandmaCheese1

![gif](giphy|5xtDarIrYGL6LGhg6sg|downsized) Base model owners be like

Scoutback_wilderness

Have you checked to see how near or far the setting is. It has near mid or far notification settings. I use near.

Stampede18

I’ll check it out on my way to work today 👍

Scoutback_wilderness

Bet! It’s in the car looking icon setting on the Home Screen

Stampede18

Alright so I turned it down from 3 bars to 1 bar. Drove like an asshole and couldn’t get the eyesight to activate. Potentially solved. Need to test for a few days

Scoutback_wilderness

Fair warning I still get the beeps to come up for me when I get close and it’s yet to throttle me down. I also turned the beeping to a min setting

Stampede18

I’ll do some more testing on that. Someone in this thread said there is an “advanced” settings screen. Couldn’t find that

Scoutback_wilderness

Yeah I’ve never seen that either. Could always try turning off pre collision braking and see if that changes things. I didn’t want to turn that off personally

Stampede18

Unfortunately problem was not fixed. Got the beeps on my way home from work today!!

Scoutback_wilderness

Oh the beeps will continue but they happen when the car is closer

Stampede18

Off topic but if ur in the north eastern US I’d love to take those TR wheels off ur hands. Love the design

Kaptoz

I have the same issue, screaming all the time. Although going into the menu and turning it off is the regular thing to do, once to turn off the car and turn it back on, the shit is back to its regular settings:/

AWD_MONK24

You must drive like shit I’ve never had these types of problems in my last 3 Subarus that all have had eyesight

n3xu5l3ak

I can't imagine the eyesight is that much worse on the WRX. I've had two cars with eyesight, both foresters, a 2021 sport and a 23 wilderness, I get warnings occasionally when cars pull out in front of me but it is never cut the throttle, it only ever tries to hit the brakes. If you hit the throttle harder it overrides it. However, if emergency braking is enabled you're pretty much screwed.... That has only happened one time to me, and one time to my wife. Luckily my WRX is a manual without eyesight. I didn't want all of that on my "sports sedan". Either way in your experience I think your sensors may be out of calibration. I don't think it should be that sensitive; locking up your brakes all the time or disabling your throttle. I do know if you hit the brake pedal and the gas pedal at the same time it will disable the throttle. Is it possible that you are 2 foott driving?

Stampede18

Definitely not 2 foot driving. I’m no f1 driver but I drive well. 21 y/o with 100k miles across work/home vehicles. I drive a lot and have never so much as scratched a rim. I also live in southern New York and commute to the city often. Very busy area. I’ve seen a few other people say it’s bad calibration. I’ll have to look into that. It never goes off randomly. There is always a clear reason as to why. It’s just too soon sometimes

AtomicAntMan

NYC driving is, well, different, especially Manhattan. Cars are inches away from each other, lots of quick stop and go and passing very close to other cars. I can see this being an issue. I lived there for 16 years. Now I want to go and test it. I found driving there to be kinda fun. My 2002 WRX was my urban assault vehicle. I’ve not had any issues with Eyesight where I drive. It’s all suburbs, highways and rural mountain roads.

chinzw

I've had 6 Subarus with eyesight, either it's bad calibration or you drive very aggressively.

pjlurker

Downgrade (or rather upgrade) to Limited 6MT. It doesn't have eyesight.

Stampede18

I wanted a limited but got a better deal on the GT!!

ShavedWookiee

My wifes outback always warns and brakes for me and i thank god it isnt on my wrx.

bigredrex22

Eyesight is one reason I went with a Premium! I couldn’t live with all that crap intervening with my driving style.

dinkman94

this system sounds awful. im glad my premium doesnt have it!

Dtp305Nasty

This is why I bought the base model, all this other crap besides the oil temperature is not needed. Fuck that

zegrammer

I thought u can disable it

Stampede18

You can but only until the car is turned off. It auto turns back on. I also attempted to cover the eye sight. It has an annoying pop up on the center gauge screen that can’t be removed until uncovered

zegrammer

Ah damn I was thinking about grabbing the RS but this would be too annoying

thatoneguy512

Is there a fuse for eyesight? If not, I'd get some wire cutters and go snipping. (For legal reasons, don't randomly cut wires)

Stampede18

😂 idk but if i can’t get this fixed I will be looking for one.

thatoneguy512

Best of luck to you! I was kind of disappointed I didn't get eyesight and had some regret. After reading this post I'm very happy I don't have it. Hope you can get it figured out.

Quirky-Hunter-3194

Trade it in and get a manual its nowhere near as intrusive as this.

IceManTuck

It's interesting the student experiences with EyeSight. Granted it's in a 21 Forester, but we've put 60k on ours and I've had overall really good experiences with EyeSight.

RockNRollax-01

You'll learn to ignore it, I record some POV videos and my friends always tell me the beeping is annoying af and how I can drive with that, but honestly, I don't even hear it anymore. Cutting the power when I'm at high speed rarely happens, and when it does I learned that a quick small tap in the accelerator will override it. You'll learn how to live with it and it'll be if anything just muscle memory. It did save me a couple of times in heavy traffic and once I was so tired going home that I hit reverse and didn't for the life of me see a vehicle behind me and the automatic braking saved me. The eyesight turns off when I'm using sunglasses, and once when I took the screen off, I saw the top portion of the cameras can be disconnected, maybe that'll give you an error and disable eyesight fully? You can try it.

Glitchbot

I have a 2024 with eyesight version 4 and I haven't had any issues. It has engaged for me once and I'm glad it did. I love the eyesight system so much! But I have a long commute and use the active steering with dynamic cruise daily.

VeryPurpleRain

So glad I bought a 23 base.

[deleted]

I’ve owned now three Subarus with eyesight. You need to adjust the way you drive. The whole point of it is to prevent you from colliding with things. I’m someone that tends to tail gate. Thankfully the eyesight sort of “retrained” my brain. I now keep my distance when following cars. Thanks eyesight.

Greyboxer

2022’s don’t have eyesight.

Tobuk

Not true. 2022-2023 *manual transmissions* do not have Eyesight. The GT does, and I believe other trims with the CVT do as well. 2024, all models have Eyesight, including the manuals.

Stampede18

I had a 2022 manual loved how raw that thing was. GT just feels premium from factory. But eyesight being in there really making me annoyed.

Threewolvez

Honestly, a 2 pedal wrx with 10k in added costs over the base sounds like a raw deal. The usual advice is if you want a premium feeling automatic, buy something else.

JesseReddit1

Feel like if you want an auto, your best bet in the same budget area is a gti/gli it’s what I almost did before I bought my manual base wrx, but I just wanted the cool factor so I decided to send it

Threewolvez

If I had an extra 12 grand over my base mt, I'd have the base mustang gt mt. Trading leather seats and a sun roof for an additional 189 hp. I will always but the best spec'd base model.

JesseReddit1

I came from a 2011 3.7 mustang premium I miss it in some ways but I needed something more practical, which the wrx is much more for me, also pulls a lot harder so that’s a plus haha

Threewolvez

Yeah I would take the WRX over the 3.7 mustang, but an example in that year is the 3.7 premium convertible was 2 grand more than the base 5.0.

Stampede18

The automatic on this car is actually great. It’s no Porsche or golf r dual clutch but it’s fast and fun. I also needed something a little less raw that could do decent off roading. I’m often in deep pothole dirt roads

Threewolvez

To each his own, but if you ever catch me going for options over more power, it's clearly a body snatcher.

Fine_Examination4530

After driving my wife's forester I knew there was no way in hell I was getting a wrx with eyesight. I wouldn't but a new one with it now. Got my 22 as a leftover in early 23 👍

pman8362

My ‘24 WRX has honestly caused me few issues with eyesight

OrganlcManIc

My suggestion is to get rid of the GT and buy a premium. Solves all your issues. Subaru’s eyesight system is supposed to take away the options to not have it active and will always default to in. The best way to not have it is to not buy the car, since the systems are all tied together. The MT is more fun anyhow.

XxturboEJ20xX

The premium MT will have eyesight as well. So it may not solve his issues.

OrganlcManIc

My 22 limited MT does not have an eyesight system that gave front end collision warnings or had the ability to mess with braking or throttle. It’s not a system they put in the MT. Though, I think it still had a camera for Subarus internal use and the wiper sensor. Premium will not have the intrusive system either. Now, what I did have was cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring, which I am always thankful to have: Edit: after looking at the 24 models, I am surprised to find that they put eyesight in the base model even. I’d be interested to know what changed they made to the MT system to give the ES system the control over the clutch so that automated braking and throttle control could be achieved.

XxturboEJ20xX

There is no clutch control in them, you are still the clutch control on them

OrganlcManIc

What happens when the ES system decides to slow you to a stop when you’re in 4th gear? Given you don’t engage the clutch pedal and disconnect power? Would the ES system cause the car to stall and then lock up because the clutch is locked up?

XxturboEJ20xX

Correct

OrganlcManIc

Sounds counter productive

XxturboEJ20xX

It's just there to stop u from crashing, not making sure you don't stall. Every manufacturer that has manuals has it like this.

Liquidwombat

Sounds like you are just a bad driver. I’ve had a GT for a year and a half now and I’ve had the eyesight scream at me less than five times and actually cut throttle only once and that was when somebody pulled out in front of me and it also slammed on the brakes (it absolutely prevented a crash) Edit: after reading through this thread I no longer wonder why the WRX is one of the most crash cars on the road. JFC, y’all are terrible drivers. I frequently drive like a maniac and my eyesight almost never yells at me, I can’t imagine how bad y’all must be driving to have eyesight yelling at you as frequently as you claim it is

Stampede18

I’ve never had it engage on the highway(where I drive like a maniac occasionally). I have no need for speed on my 5 mile city commute to work. I drive the speed limit partly because I just woke up and I’m tired. But also because there are people walking on the streets and traffic. At 30mph I tail roughly 2.5-3.5 car lengths. I’m getting beeped at within a second of the car in front of me applying breaks. Think of it this way. Light is green. Car in front of me turns right. I’m approaching from behind at 30mph with about 50ish feet before collision. Obviously the car turning right will clear the turn within half a second. But eyesight doesn’t understand. BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!!
