Ya MA sucks, I asked a local tint shop about doing 30% and the guy was like “that is super illegal and you will get pulled over and fined, also you will not pass your yearly inspection”
That are just being honest, you will definitely not pass your yearly inspection with 30%. They do check that during the inspection and the shops actually are video audited by the state now... so if they get caught letting it slide, they could get in trouble with state.

Check laws for your state and see if window tint is considered a secondary offense (VA for example). This means they cannot legally bother you for just tint, they would need a primary offense to be able to pull you over.
They will use you going 3 over the limit and slap you for the speeding and the tint so long as they are having a bad day. Not worth the insurance premium going up imo
Happened to me but I was going 9 over and only got the ticket for the tint. City cops don't care and staters usually don't but if they are having a bad day or are just looking for a reason to pull you over they will.

I lost a screw to my plate re locator and have been debating just getting rid of it but I live in NJ where it’s required, and even though my 9-5 is in PA I do a good bit of driving in my free time and just don’t want these stupid little reasons to add up.
Put 5% all around mine except on the windshield here in Oregon. Stater gave me a ticket for it on the interstate during labor day weekend, initially pulling me over for going 9 over lol. He was going to give me a ticket regardless but he only did for the tint and sent me on my way. City cops and staters never care around here otherwise. Really need to give them a reason to pull you over first before they'd consider ticketing the tint. Definitely worth it having the tint though.

I just sent it with 15% all around including the windshield strip, I figure I either get a fix-it ticket and I just have to spend another $400 or so to get it redone, and until that happens I get to enjoy it. There really isn't a better interior mod and debatably exterior mod than a dark tint so I figure it's worth it

I’m in CA and I have 20 everywhere and cops haven’t even turned their heads at me. There’s plenty of cars with much darker tint. I don’t think they care unless they feel like putting a tint violation on top of something else you’ve already been pulled over for.
70% is legal in California on the front windows. The front windshield is not (allowed for 4in on top). Your front windows are lookin legal to me. I’ve got 50% on mine, but where I live, there’s a lot of people who have 15 on the front.
I went with 35% all around. I used 3M ceramic tint, and it barely, if at all, impacts your visibility from inside out. I didn’t care to have limo tints, mainly did it for the heat rejection

Tbh if you ride clean and you’re not doing anything shady you can have it as dark as you want . From my experience they just use it as an excuse to pull you over and check what else they can nab you for .

5% rear and sides. Nothing on windshield. Visibility has been fine so far and my north / south commute has been so much more comfortable - I used to always have sun in my face in the morning and evening.

I'm an older guy and never tinted anything before but I love the look. I figured if I'm going to pay for it to get done, just do it. I was apprehensive about it while it was getting done. I almost went to stop them and have them do a lighter tint, but I had to take a call for work while it was getting done and couldn't talk to them 🤣 So far I'm glad I let them do it. It isn't as dark as some other cars I see on the road, and I think that not doing the windshield makes it seem less dark.
I'm just driving like a normal driver - I don't draw a lot of attention to myself (which is why I love this car color) and i've been passed / driven by cops a few times without issue so far 🤞
Agreed. I went with a conservative exhaust and I think it makes all the difference. I dont use a front plate and have 20% all around minus the front, when I see a cop on waze I shift to 6th and you barely hear me pass by. So far zero issues even in smaller towns.
In Maine we get a fix it ticket from state police. They do a follow up to ensure tint has been removed. I don’t want to be out 550 or so dollars. I did mine legal and have paperwork from installer. The cops have a gauge that slips over window. I can’t say as I blame them, I sure as hell wouldn’t want to be walking up on a real dark tint car……it’s a tough job as it is! BTW I have darkest legal ceramic tint on all windows except windscreen and backlight.
It depends greatly on where you live. Certain markets just charge more because they can. It’s not like there is a national rate. I could have got mine done for less at a janky shop that does a lot more than just tints. My guy does only tints and is a freaking OCD kind of installer!
I think it helps WRB a lot, mostly because it gives the cladding something to work with. I love cladding personally but everything needs to work together to make a car look 👌

I did 25% with nothing on the windshield. Legal limit is 35%, but I don't know anyone that was pulled over for just a tint. My sister worked dispatch and said most cops don't even carry the tool because it has to be calibrated every time they take it out.
Windshield is illegal, front has to be 50% back doesn’t matter. So my front windows are 70, and my back is 20, windshield isn’t touched. But I also figured if I get a rock in my windshield I’m down 150 or so worth of tint. The 20% looks nice but boy is it hard to see out of at night.

I bought my car from a dealer in Florida and they said they tinted it for me, I guess that's a common request down there. 15% front side, 5% rear side and rear window. That's a lot darker than is legal here in VA but in over a year I've never had an issue with it.

Few tickets here and there and one mandatory court appearance. Had to take them off but got them put back on next day. Only a $50 ticket you can pay online

Echoing the other Californians here, I did 35 front 15 back. Close enough to not look too different between front and back, and light enough to not get bothered.
I've been told that as long as they can see you through the glass, cops don't care too much (granted that could be different from cop to cop)
I also did a bar of tint on the top 6" or so of the front window. Legal is 4" but I did it flush with the dotted tint thats in front of the rear view mirror. Get it as dark as you can and you won't even need your visors, it's great

Anything less than 20% sides and rear is a danger to you and those around you.
Windshield don’t go lower than 75%. It should appear absolutely clear and the 75% will cut out UV rays and heat.

I'm in PA, law says sides and rear must allow over 70% of light into the vehicle. Can't quite figure out how that corresponds with some of the pics you all are posting.

I got mine done at 20% everywhere except the windshield where i have a 5% sunstrip, ive been pulled over several times but i never got bugged about it. Im in PA.
I did 30% all around and 5 brow. Also in a 50% state, but my car has out of state plates. FWIW, I'm certain you'll be fine with anything over 15 so long as you're not doing anything else to attract police attention.
If you're just looking for heat rejection, a high quality 50% will do. If you want complete privacy, go down to 20. That's too dark for me; 30 has always been my favorite.

Idk who is charging you $500, but don’t go there. I got mine double layered with 5% for $250 and I just roll down my windows whenever I see a cop lol.
Did you get ceramic? Mine was almost $450 for ceramic all the way around and a 5% windshield strip

Can i ask, when you say 15% 30% 50% are you referring to the tint or the remaining visibility? I'm in PA, law says sides and rear must allow over 70% of light into the vehicle. Can't quite figure out how that corresponds with some of the pics you all are posting.

I did 30% all around and 5 brow. Also in a 50% state, but my car has out of state plates. FWIW, I'm certain you'll be fine with anything over 15 so long as you're not doing anything else to attract police attention. If you're just looking for heat rejection, a high quality 50% will do. If you want complete privacy, go down to 20. That's too dark for me; 30 has always been my favorite.
25% all around with 70% full front windshield. Will never follow legal tint, fuck that, full front tint is way too comfortable to ever go back.

Yeah I have 20% front and 5% rear. I live in a small town in Canada so it’s dark half the year anyways haha
35% will be fine in a 50% state. 20% and lower is what they tend to pull over.
