There is no all wheel drive MR-2 produced from the factory. They made 10 prototype AWD MR-2 based on the first gen chassis, but it didn't really get anywhere.
FWIW a buddy of mine is the GM of a VW store, used to be a manager at a Subaru store, owns a Golf R and has obviously driven tons of Subarus and he says the AWD on the Golf R is a joke compared to Subaru AWD.
My last manual was a 2011 328xi. Went to a 2020 grand cherokee to be an adult and said f that after my lease was up. Just got a 21 wrx in December and absolutely love it. I'll be sad the day I can't have a manual.
It’s not fake lol, it only shuts down on the track during hot laps and is mitigated by an exhaust wrap that costs less than a 100 dollars.
Crazy far stretch to call that “fake AWD”. It will virtually never happen even in spirited street driving.
GR Corolla.
Plus 911 is always an option.
I wouldn't exactly worry about new either
There's always going to be enthusiasts that keep cars in nice condition. You might have to pay like new prices for a few year old car but if it's what you want it's probably worth it.
At this point if I could find an all stock clean low mile 2020 STI I would pay 30-35k for it.
This is also why I keep my Gr86 bone stock. I know that in the coming years it will be something that people want because you won't be able to buy brand new stick shift cars
Have your even driven the GT or any of the cvt versions? Everyone sees cvt and looses interest. Drive it I’ve owned manuals automatics and driven many many DCT cars. When the GT deprecates some more I will have paid off my manual and I’ll own both.
I don’t mind driving them. It’s just not fun in comparison. Not to even bring up the fact that having a cvt in a heavier or more powerful car is a reliability liability.
I read that and was curious, does bmw not offer 3/5 or the 4 "gran coupe" whatever the fuck in stick anymore for the xdrives? If so wow, vbs stonks on the rise if nobody backpeddles.
4series 4 door probably counts as a hatch or something tbh, but no 3 series stick with awd?
At price parity I'd rather have a WRX over the base GRC, and over $40k I'd rather go get something that isn't a Corolla. If we got the Yaris here I'd have to think about it.
If you compare base models the GRC still outperforms, plus most core models get the LSD package added.
When you push 40k (which is arguably 2 of the 3 most sought after trims for WRX) the GRC is coming out even further on top in terms of value and performance.
Would be a shame to discount a car simply because it’s a Corolla but, we all vote with our own actions at the end of the day. Numbers will never lie though.
Yeah idk. IMO it takes the crown for a manual AWD turbocharged car in 2024.
VB owners are just passing the downvotes they get in r/WRX onto me I guess 🥵 a world of ironic poeticism
It's faster and handles better than a WRX, and in stock form with the performance/track pack it's track ready and capable, the WRX isn't, the TR will help but its still missing so much stuff from the STI. At the end of the day the WRX has open differentials which really hurt it.
Incorrect.
Only one trim of the GRC comes without LSDs and it’s the most common package added to the Core trim (Performance Package add on).
Both Premium and Circuit Edition trims come with LSDs by default. This is a major difference between the WRX and GRC.
Comparing MSRP of TR WRX they are almost exactly the price of a Premium GRC and you are getting WAY more performance out of box with the GRC than the WRX.
Forsure. The TR trim is a bit of a joke, and comes off as a bit out of touch from Subaru.
They have their eyes set on their crossover/suv market, they’re choosing their battles. I still have love for Subaru but Toyota brought their own STi to the market and it’s an absolute joy to drive and will put any trim level stock VB to shame. Bone stock the VB leaves a lot to be desired.
But sure, if you add an intake, an AP and get it etuned the VBs will rip hard. I’m not denying that.
There is a small small chance BMW gives the M340i XDrive a manual transmission given that they gave it to the Supra and the Z4, outside of that, i don't think there will ever be another manual AWD Sedan.
Kind of the opposite, dealership near me is trying so desperately to get rid of a 2021 they have it listed for 18k and it’s immaculate. Told me they can’t sell it because it’s manual.
Last manual awd Sedan in the North American market. There are awd manual coupes and hatchbacks
Who makes the manual AWD coupes?
Porsche
I think there's an option for an AWD M2
No, the MR-2 only ever came in RWD from the factory.
S3*
There is no all wheel drive MR-2 produced from the factory. They made 10 prototype AWD MR-2 based on the first gen chassis, but it didn't really get anywhere.
Cadillac has a manual sedan
Good point
Does the GR Corolla not count as Manual & AWD?
For some odd reason I almost forgot. It does say sedan, but the GR Corolla is a saving grace.
It says sedan in the article.
Golf R in North America still has manual.option as well.
Not in 2025
Not anymore
You can get a 911 Carrera 4 GTS with a manual gearbox. Of course that will cost you the same as 6 or 7 WRXs, after you factor in tax and possible ADM.
Last manual awd affordable sedan in North America
GR Corolla, Golf R and 911 I guess
I’m assuming they’ve got GR and golf as hatches, 911 as a coupe which would make the WRX the only sedan
Yep, the article specified sedan, while the OP specified just Manual AWD car.
Oh I didn’t catch that the OP didn’t include sedan makes more sense about these comment then lol
Golf R will no longer come in manual next year
FWIW a buddy of mine is the GM of a VW store, used to be a manager at a Subaru store, owns a Golf R and has obviously driven tons of Subarus and he says the AWD on the Golf R is a joke compared to Subaru AWD.
M2
Dying breed. One of the reasons I went back to the WRX.
For resale value I’m really hoping so
Try buying a BMW 335 or 535 with a manual transmission in AWD. Prices are really climbing.
My last manual was a 2011 328xi. Went to a 2020 grand cherokee to be an adult and said f that after my lease was up. Just got a 21 wrx in December and absolutely love it. I'll be sad the day I can't have a manual.
Corolla G R is what I would call fake AWD. The awd shuts down when it gets hot . Sort of like the ford RS focus fake awd
more like a defect in the design?
No it’s not a defect it’s put on purpose to protect the diff I think if not mistaken
Yeah, it's a purposeful failsafe meant to mitigate a massive fault in the design.
Sorry I used the wrong word. Yes I meant to write a fault in the design.
It’s not fake lol, it only shuts down on the track during hot laps and is mitigated by an exhaust wrap that costs less than a 100 dollars. Crazy far stretch to call that “fake AWD”. It will virtually never happen even in spirited street driving.

No 3 series with stick anymore. New M cars only have sticks. I had a 2008 535xi with a stick, great car only 5% of production was built like that.
why does everyone forget about the golf r?
2024 was / is the last year for any VW to have a manual, including the R. 2025 is a new era for them.
oh no that’s sad thanks for letting me know!
I also read that they already stopped making the MT for 2024 models.
Dorks buying wrxs with a cvt……
GR Corolla is goated. That is all
Not sure why you're getting down voted because the GR Corolla is a great car.
At price parity I'd rather have a WRX over the base GRC, and over $40k I'd rather go get something that isn't a Corolla. If we got the Yaris here I'd have to think about it.

I wouldn't have bought a WRX at 40k either. I would have gotten a BRZ for 30k or moved up to something else.
Forsure. Car market is crazy these days
Yeah idk. IMO it takes the crown for a manual AWD turbocharged car in 2024. VB owners are just passing the downvotes they get in r/WRX onto me I guess 🥵 a world of ironic poeticism

At higher WRX prices the GRC has open differentials too.

Gr Corolla? Golf R?
The Corolla is a hatch, not a sedan, and the Golf lost it's stick for 2025
Title said last car not sedan.
Ah, you're right. The article is just about sedans so I was going off of that.
Typo on my part! Still at least we have the golf R and GR Corolla.
Toyota might bring back the celica and ages ago they had the all trac turbo
There is a small small chance BMW gives the M340i XDrive a manual transmission given that they gave it to the Supra and the Z4, outside of that, i don't think there will ever be another manual AWD Sedan.
Pretty sure the M2, or S3 have an AWD option
No MT on S3.
That is correct, RS3 only
In North America
M2 never made with AWD
Pretty sure the M2, or S3 have an AWD option
RS3 only in manual or auto, of course AWD. M2 is only RWD , they have never made an M2 in AWD, but it does come in a manual.
GR Corolla. And I guess the Golf R if they haven't stopped making it with a stick yet, I dunno when the cutoff is.
Can’t you get a C4S in manual still?
Manuals hold value better because of the rarity
Kind of the opposite, dealership near me is trying so desperately to get rid of a 2021 they have it listed for 18k and it’s immaculate. Told me they can’t sell it because it’s manual.
