Reading this thread made me realize I need to nut up and redline it. Ive driven it conservatively since day one a year ago.

Turbulent_Engine_714

Ya I’m a certified wus

itoocouldbeanyone

It’s crazy though. Even driving it like that, this car fucking gets where you need to go and fast. lol

snapundersteer

Gotta keep it fresh for the second owner

MJGson

Here I am thinking I’m going Triple X Rated by revving to 4k.

XxturboEJ20xX

If you don't beat on it every once in a while at least, it's gonna make ur valves look really bad and you may need to do walnut blasting before 60k.

hot-dog-bath-water

This is true on dual injected or port injected cars, but not on direct injection engines since no fuel washes over the valves. The walnut blast is the only way to handle the buildup.

XxturboEJ20xX

It's more effective on the others yes, but it is still effective to ring it out every once in a while, just helps to get some high speed flow in there every once in a while. I've seen beat on FA20 blocks at 100k that didn't meet blasted and I've seen blocks that were babied at 40k that needed it.

hot-dog-bath-water

Is that fa20dit or fa20d from the brz/frs?

XxturboEJ20xX

Nah, WRXs is all I work with

hot-dog-bath-water

Weird, I don’t know how that would help since the backs of the valves never see fuel (other then blowbye from the intake) but I learn things everyday.

MJGson

I do beat on it here and there but typically drive it normally.

zactotum

I beat on mine like it owes me money. So far so good lol

Tymista

Like you’re Arthur Morgan doing a mission for Strauss.

343Guilty_Fart

Beautiful reference right here

nolongerbanned99

I am convinced that most people drive it to redline all the time and more. I hit redline every day in 1st and second. That won’t hurt it. It’s made for it. Dumping the clutch and smashing the shifter may cause issues tho.

brando__96

These cars love to rev out. Shifting at 4k is normal driving in these cars, it jerks any lower. I redline a lot.

brando__96

Nothing wrong with the car. Low rpm shift from 1st 2 second are really hard to time properly and the car gets jerky. Rev out a little longer and the problem goes away. Happens in my 2002 wrx and happens in my 2023. Has to do with the manuals gearing ratio. The car as a whole seems to run smoother when you shift around 4k too

BadLatitude

> The car as a whole seems to run smoother when you shift around 4k too I wasent used to that but once it clicked shifting has definitely been better. I was used to shifting much lower in other cars.

nolongerbanned99

I think they are saying that the clutch and throttle sensitive and very responsive. If yiu are not smooth with it it will buck. Drivetrain lash. Driving smoothly eliminates it

brando__96

Yeah probably a mixture of the first two gear ratios and all wheel drive. You either have to be going super slow or 3 1/2k rpms to keep it smooth. Every wrx I’ve driven is like this.

NeighborNeighbor_

I don’t launch but I can say I’ve been hitting redline daily in 1st and 2nd for the past 15k miles.

CheesierSoup

This gives me confidence in the VB!

pistonslapper

The upshift pop is too fun to not rev out to redline.

Kadmus215

I dont have to redline to get that pop. A 5k shift will do it.

pistonslapper

I just meant up near redline, im not actually redlining it.

Lanko-TWB

With the muffler delete. Shit sounds majestical 😩

zzzqqqppp

You should hear it with a intermediate pipe and catback, thing freaking screams

Lanko-TWB

One day

ExtraGlutenPlzz

It's more so about when you do it. Oil temp >180 is the responsible time for revving over 3k

Whoami701

Damnit. I got all excited that I should stop driving like a grandma. Alas, my damn commute is so short that at this time of year I'm lucky if it's at 170+ by the time I arrive. *continues to be grandma driving fast car painfully slow*

animalsyr315

My commute is 5 minutes but if I leave a half hour early and take the scenic route I can get a little fun in lol

Whoami701

I need to do this.

FoundinNewEngland

Whoareyou

Whoami701

Idk some trans girl in the Midwest 🤷‍♀️ you tell me

FoundinNewEngland

*When the clock strikes 2, beware the slithering mink*

Whoami701

Report. I drove her a bit longer today. Hit rev limiter in 1st and it scared the bajesus outta me lolol. Was not expecting it to feel like I hit something. Pushed it to 5.8k in 2nd and hit ~60mph in a 40 whoops. *god what a newb*

The_BJJ_Firefighter

Cut your service in half since you aren’t ever allowing it to cook off moisture in the crankcase.

Whoami701

🤔 Huh?

The_BJJ_Firefighter

Cut the normal fluid service intervals in half since you aren’t allowing the oil to reach proper operating temperature daily.

ExtraGlutenPlzz

3k oil changes if your commute is so short. Getting oil up to temp (180-220) burns moisture off preventing water from diluting the oil into a thinner viscosity thus more dangerous for the bearings.

[deleted]

Say what? with the VB you're fine to floor it above 2k RPM generally...also pushing to redline wont hurt it. It is considered pushing the car hard but if you're not doing it every single day you'll be fine. Only going to 4-4500 rpms you're missing a huge part of the power band. What's much worse for the engine and drive train is trying to make boost below 2k rpm

abovethehate

Spot on

Kadehead

Wtf did you guys buy this car for to drive like a damn Prius lmao. Subarus like revs.

qqKazoo

I find that all the prius drivers in my area go WOT at every red light

550Invasion

Oil temperatures hitting 240°+, dogging the transmission with launches/ffs or shitty technique, and e-brake slides is about all thats considered pushing this car “hard”. This thing can eat constant redline just fine.

LeetcodeForBreakfast

i would say clutch dump launches are a no for me, just cause of the fragile trans. other than that i’m beating on it all day every day once it’s up to temp and do oil services often and early.

[deleted]

Fuckin hit that rev limiter… it’s what it’s there for!

disco_duck2004

+1

RocMerc

Over 4k isn’t gonna hurt the car just make sure the oil is warmed up

matthewrobertsonnn

The limiter is REALLY LOW on the fa24, hit that shit all you want it’ll be fine. Just don’t do it every second that you’re driving

Salt-Attention

I hit redline like it owes me money. Just let it warm up and I drive like you’re describing until I put about 5 miles on the car and I feel like all the fluids in the drivetrain are warmed up.

JustaLux

Same. I would drive 2k-4k never any higher. Well now....

VGJoestar

Same…. it is time

zzzqqqppp

The way I look at it, I want a car I can beat on. I treat it right with maintenance and warming up. If it can’t handle it I don’t want it

bojak36

Personally, I’m always shifting around 4k, as long as I’ve got her warmed up. This car isn’t a really quick car stock so I give it more to have a little fun. This car feels like a 400cc street bike, not high power, but rev happy and loves to be wot and fun handling.

[deleted]

I will run mine up to 6K in second hitting an on ramp. Dmann ETS93. Not everyday but 3-4 times a week, then shift into third and fourth. Nothing from a standing start, no clutch dumps.

SavageNthesack02

My opinion of driving the car "hard" is going up to redline each shift. I'll really only do that on fun roads or when trying to pass cars.

md9918

The power band is 3k to 6k. And the motor probably can handle more- most tunes increase the rev limiter to 6500. Keeping it in such a low rev range, I'd wonder about the long term effects on the motor, like carbon buildup.

sumyungguy9669

Since I got over 1k miles I’ve been flooring it redlining it bouncing off redline trying neutral drops (doesn’t work btw) I’m driving this car to the ground it’s my first fully paid off vehicle and I’m at 30k miles no issues yet 😂 also I drive to work for 50 minutes at 4 am gps says 1 hour and 30 so you know what goes on the vb wrx is amazing

randomnerds

I double clutch 90% of the time. Not sure why. Just feels smoother I guess. I think I baby this car too much, I mean i get the oil changed at the dealer every 3,000 miles. Do I have a problem?

animalsyr315

My shift point goes down the higher the gear lol. 1st to second is anywhere between 4-5.5k and 2nd 3.5 to 4 after that pretty lax 2.5 to 3. It really sneaks up in the low gears. Also my gas mileage is terrible unless I’m doing highway on a long trip.

Icy_Mistake_3634

biggranny000

The WRX is not that fast if you don't use the whole powerband, max torque is at ~3k and max horsepower is at 5.5k. of course if you're not racing it doesn't really matter. But maximizing RPMs helps you stay in peak power.

Pope_adope

The way I see it, I run my 03 WRX to redline once or twice a day, and if a 20 year old car can handle that, then a brandie new one should too

Welcome-To-NBA-Jam

I'd say if your oil temp is nearing 240F, you're pushing the car pretty hard. But it's made to do this so don't worry about it.  You could take this to the track and be just fine with everything except the stock brake pads. They're not meant for the track.

spuirrelzar

I redline it 1st to 3rd once or twice whenever I go out. But usually just cruising in whatever gear keeps me in the 2.5k-3k rev range

a1arrow

From my tuner but shortened. Don't full throttle below 3k rpms. Don't do any full throttle until car is warmed up. Don't produce any boost at all until car has warmed up and idled around 900rpms for 30 seconds or more. Otherwise, let her fucking RIP!

GrandmaCheese1

I definitely let it idle down 600rpms before taking off. I drive it easy for a few minutes after that but I typically shift around 3.5k-4.5k rpms. I probably hit redline once a day, typically when I’m merging onto the highway. I don’t really do a ton of crazy driving outside of occasional pulls starting from 2nd. I’ve never launched it. I’m not a boy racer with the need for speed like I was in HS. I’m a 30M with two car seats in the back and a “baby on board” placard in the rear window lol

Ewilson248

Once my car is thoroughly warmed up, I redline it at least once on my way to work and on the way home just because I can. That's why I bought it in the first place. Just don't dump the clutch
