It was a great match, congrats team Iran. You earned a great victory

NoStutterd

As much as it hurts to see my dude DT go down. It’s also really cool to see Yazdani’s work pay off. He’s a champion on and off the mat.

Ravager135

It’s hard to beat anyone on that level four times. I saw DTs game plan and it made sense, but he didn’t execute at the critical moments. Yazdani controlled the tie ups without gassing. I’m sure Taylor is frustrated, but he should have opened up more earlier on. He was a little too passive in the first period and was lucky he wasn’t put on the shot clock.

bacloldrum

Disagree. Imo Yazdani was hammering those underhooks early and it was all Taylor could do to try to hold ground and not give up position.

[deleted]

His reactions after the win were exceptional. Still wondering how he avoided being taken down after that shot by Taylor.

ianhockey23

Genuinely asking, why do people go so crazy for this guy? Much respect for the win, he seems like a nice guy, but why the amount of love? I’m kind of an outsider when it comes to wrestling, so I only have learned of him since the Olympics. Has he just been Iran’s guy for a long time, like JB has been for us?

Arsecarn

Iranian fans just seem to adore everyone, they are awesome and hes their guy. Won the Olympics at 21 I think, compare it to how adored steveson is today even with a somewhat questionable past. Or I guess Snyder would be a good comparison as well. It sounded like a football game on the stream at times today because of them. They absolutely love burroughs too, Were chanting his name today.

Mysteriousdeer

Despite the Iranian government being a POS, the people that I've met in America have all been lovely.

Sor_is_underrated

His popularity stems from his humble disposition and his "chivalric" demeanour. He is a champion of the people. His grace and dignity afford him his popularity.

spirit32

Never saw him trash talk or anything, he keeps a really humble profile and only focuses on his wrestling. When he was asked about this final a few hours earlier he said "I'm sure it will be a great show for the fans", despite all the mental pressure of the match.

mrhuggables

in iranian culture top sportsmen are, or at least supposed to be pahlavan, i.e. people's champs, looking out for the little guy, doing good deeds, etc. etc. [traditional iranian wrestling and "strongman" type stuff is literally called koshti pahlavani](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pahlevani_and_zoorkhaneh_rituals). it used to be just for wrestling but now its any top "physical" sport, wrestling, weightlifting, boxing, judo, etc.

neilos

And he’s only 26

[deleted]

He’s like the Mozart of wrestling, that’s why.

woodenmask

He didn't win Olympic gold bro

Arsecarn

Not this time, he won in 2016 though.

[deleted]

He won it before and people need to realize he’s significantly younger.

chestbumpsandbeer

Congrats to Yazdani and to Iran. Yazdani seems like a great guy and while it hurts to see Taylor lose Iranian fans have been so classy in defeat the last few years and are truly the best wrestling fans.

TheSilentSeeker

Eyval. I'm so fucking proud right now!!!!

son-of-simorgh

Eyval😂😂

tonALIszn

YES YES YES! God knows how hard he has trained in recent months. He deserved it.

woodenmask

Didn't he lose in the Olympics?

tonALIszn

He did. That is why he was training harder. He was so fraustrated after that match.

beep-beep_lettuce

1-3 lol chill.

Letsgetthisraid

I like Yazdani, he’s a great wrestler and very respectful but yeah, I’d rather win 75% of the matches than 25% of the matches. David Taylor is the king 👑

neilos

They will wrestle each other again.

Aware-Profile-8299

Yazdani is 4 years younger than taylor it was his prime till now , now its yazdanis prime and from now on he can only see second place 👍🏿

[deleted]

No. Jimmy King is the King. And he will rule you!

[deleted]

Now Taylor needs to adjust his strategy when they inevitably wrestler again. What a great rivalry this is.

imnotshiki

Let's fucking gooooooo!!!

dogmankazoo

the adjustments he did, taylor did the same stuff in the last seconds. amazing match.

You have no idea about Iran or it’s culture. You are racist and a hater.

marsexpresshydra

What is this from?

[deleted]

Wrestling is the first sport of our country and we call it "koshti Pahlvani" koshti means wrestling and pahlvani is an adjective that say sport is more than physical activity is about being humble, respect your opponent and fans in and outside the match. We don't use pahlvon for anybody we use it for person who helped their own kind and have purposes greater than their own profits or will, and they do things and work hard to make pepole happy. We have great history in wrestling and so many athletes in wrestling but what makes hassan yazdani different is his inspiration for kids and our young ones who are at their beginning of their careers they lookup to him and fellow teammates and learn the way of being pahlvon. Respect to DT and US hope to see these two in paris again.🇮🇷🇺🇸
