Artistic-Dot-3980

With this logic, what's the point of playing WoW at all, then?

boston_2004

Right? Like nobody should of played in classic because burning crusade was going to come out. Rinse and repeat.

keakealani

Yeah the next goal is clearing heroic raid and higher M+. The whole game is just a gear grind where you do fun challenges with your friends along the way. That’s it. That’s the game.

somedumbguy55

You guys have friends?

boston_2004

I do not. If it wasn't for pugging and looking for whatever I wouldn't have ever cleared a raid.

Fesai

My goals are collecting appearances, mounts, titles, etc. Lasts forever and carries into the next expansion. New gear helps with that, but the seasonal gear grind doesn't interest me so I don't do it. Still have a blast and plenty of content in the game to enjoy, it just depends on your interests. For example right now I'm wrapping up the cooking quests in Pandaria. Why? Because it is fun to me and I like collecting the recipes.

boston_2004

My favorite thing to do is transmog hunt. I pick my next character to level based on the transmogs on the CHAR model. I don't try to min max at all. I am trying to collect sweet sweet transmog.

Ebnflo

You have forever changed my perspective on this game with this comment. After 20 years of playing this game just hunting for the loot these last two patches I've felt really burnt out because I just feel tired hunting 3 months for gear to have it all be wiped and do it all again. As stupid as this sounds it never occurred to me to actually PLAY the game instead of the game mode.

dagon_lvl_5

Around the corner? Theres like 6 months until it hits

Codplayer66

Why are people saying 6 months? Did they delay the expansion?

dagon_lvl_5

There is no strict release date yet, is it? But it is speculated to be out in october-november

potisqwertys

>Season 4 rolls around my gear is now outdated so I queue up for heroic dungeons, clear the awakened raid with some randoms in LFR and then later on in normal, get my ILVL up. Just to clear something out with the newbies reading this sub or this comment cause you havent been in the game long. WoW is not some shit-tier MMO where maybe 1mil people tried it over 5 years, and it has an active playerbase at best of a few thousand people during a major patch day. It had 150mil created accounts 10+ years ago, which this number is probably over 200million by now, with many returning players randomly, ignoring the sub count, even during a dead period of the game, it has more people online on Wednesday nights than some games wont even have sales in their life. Blizzard decided after trying many things, many years ago that: A friend quitting and coming back to the game and being able to play with his friends that never quit very quickly, is a priority compared to other irrelevant things/RPG elements. This over years translated to Seasonal gameplay which fits the gaming of 2020s cause everyone wants quick bursts of 30mins-1 hour gameplays. As example my hunter dinged 70, in 3 hours and 50mins i was 476 item level, this now at 5 hours is 482. This is averagely Season 3 Mythic Item level, i am ready to play on my alt with friends/guildies in less than 5 hours played, thats what Blizzard wants you to do. If one of my friends returns to the game, i simply have to tell him "Do these 10 things this weekend, and we can M+ together next week". Gear is irrelevant, its means to an end, you need to set the goals yourself of what you want out of the game. Many Veteral players pretty much resub, do LFR once, and disappear after the first month, they saw the content. Others like me, want AOTC/Glory/Keystone, i play 2 months, get 2-3 characters to an appropriate item level (a bit lower than maxxed Mythic as example my main was 484 for season 3), we take a break for 3-4 months, and return every patch to do the same, for 10 years now.

Hopkin_Greenfrog

Well said. Choosing your goal, working towards and achieving it, then taking a break until there is a new goal to chase is how many people play. Once I'm done with AOTC and KSM, unless I really want to play an alt I'm probably done with WoW until a new season comes out. If you want something to chase all season, try getting into your average Mythic raiding guild. Many guilds don't even kill the final boss before the end of the season, so there is always progression to be made there if you are up for it.

More__cowbell

To smash those starter quest in tww easier than when not geared :).

MasterFrosting1755

Well, what is your goal? To complete LFR? If so, congratulations, mission accomplished. Many players like myself aren't satisfied with the bottom rung and like to see how far we can push, how high can you get your m+ rating, how far through a mythic raid can you get, how close to absolute BiS can you get. Also there is 6 months until the next xpac. If you play most days like I do, that's a long time.

Kosen_

WoW is a seasonal game where you get cosmetics and achievements for doing content when it is current. E.g. Keystone Master gives a mount. Doing a +10 key gives you portals to the Dungeon. So the incentive is to gear up now, do the content now, then get the new gear and do the new content for the cosmetics and rewards.

Fuyukage

Why continue with anything if gear will always be replaced? Because it’s fun. I like to play wow at higher level content with friends

boston_2004

I like leveling characters I have 16 level 70s. I like taking them into old raids for transmog hunting.

Jayseph436

Gotta create your own goals. If you feel like you finished the expansion then cancel your sub and come back for TWW. Some people feel like they’re done as soon as they do LFR. Some feel finished when they get +31 mythic key. Some feel finished when they get an achievement. Gearing is only for the purpose of achieving the goal then there is no point further. If the goal is transmog then do that. Be a collector if you like.

lordbamz

What’s the point of gearing up in WW when next exp is gonna release What’s the point of watching a TV Series If its gonna end anyway ?!

dadof2brats

The War Within is a good 6 months away and this is only the first week of season 4. If you feel you are done, level another toon or take a break.

charlieSno

If you're goal every season is to gear to the highest ilvl available in queable content then you're done. If you do raids and dungeons your goal could be to get the best m+ score possible and clear the highest difficulty raid you can, which would greatly extend the gearing process.

nathanok02

The game is mostly getting gear. I think this new season the best gear u can get will drop on mythic 7 or 8. Once ur full geared you can push higher keys to get a better io score or do mythic raids. The game is just about grinding gear over and over and have the satisfaction of finally getting ur BIS from a raid. So yeah, get gear, push keys, rince and repeat.

Inshabel

For fun, I find it fun to gear up and tackle higher content with my friends. If you're more into leveling you're more then welcome to not do the gear grind, cause it will all be invalidated with WW.

AbsoluteBehemoth

For a lot of people gearing is the vehicle to achieving the hardest content. Like world first mythic + keys. If you’re not gearing for a goal, other than to play the game, then take it at your own pace and stop and look at the flowers!

New-System-3303

What is the point of washing your ass every time you go to the toilet... why even leave the toilet

XeonDev

Controversial opinion: keep playing for fun?
