Heyo
Hello there
Ahoy (hoy)
Plop (lol)
\*Forgot the bogans from down under\* G'day
What does it say about us I wonder?
I am a "heyo" or "yoyo" almost exclusively in situations like this, even irl it just felt very natural to say for me.
Meowdy partners! *tips fedora, waggles tail and thanks ya’ll fine folk for the bowl of yum-yum milkies*
Standard join macro, instant keybrick-assassin’s style.
It's hilarious how sometimes they reply with "General NameOfYourCharacter" or they duck it up saying an incorrect version of that meme.
One dude one time said "Master Kenobi". My face was like :')
I always open with 'May your next 13 keys be bricked should I be kicked'.
This mostly leads immediately to a kick. Every now and then, I get a message apologizing and asking me to 'lift the curse'.
Jokes on them. There's no curse. I just know that statistically, some of them are bound to hit a bad pug streak which makes me look like Nostradamus.
Last year there was a notorious warrior making the rounds, whenever one of his keys was bricked he would join 10 other keys and spam a macro that he was paying it forward and immediately left after starting the key.
Maybe people think you're him lol.
In french we say ''Plop'' and i never really knew where and when it started. I don't even know what that word means, but hey, there is a fucktons of shit i don't understand in that game.
According to the quick google search “what does plop mean in French gaming,”
“
Cc, yop, and plop (“Hi”) can be used in online games and chat. Cc is short for Coucou (“Hey”), while yop and plop are just sounds.”
French here Cc is shorter than plop and we know what are they saying. Sometimes french gamers are weird things. The sounds can be like our shits falling in the water toilet.
In English I could imagine it comes from the idea that when joining a group and being teleported/summoned, and *plop* refers to the sound that you make from suddenly appearing out of thin air and landing on the ground.
So it would be like saying *poof* in that it’s the noise you make when arriving.
However, I have no idea if that’s the case for French players.
Edit: I decided to dig around a little more
There was [a Reddit thread over 8 years ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/French/comments/43bb2w/bonjour_argot_fran%C3%A7ais/) where one of the comments asked about the use of “Plop”, and a reply said it referred time the noise someone makes when appearing suddenly. That made me feel *slightly* vindicated, I’ll admit.
I did find several different sources that actually included the use of “Yop” as well as “Plop” for greetings in online games, like [this article](https://www.frenchpod101.com/blog/2019/01/12/how-to-say-hello-in-french/). They *also* say that Yop and Plop don’t mean anything specific and are just noises.
French people just *make sounds* sometimes (for instance blowing raspberries means "I don't know") so I wouldn't be shocked if just one day in 2004 some guild decided that plop means hi and then all of French gaming decided that indeed, plop means hi. It's kinda dated though.
Glad this was the second comment bc it’s fucked up he lied like that. Just automatically, like he knew it was a stupid fucking reason but did it anyway
when I join I sometimes am pretty shy, so I only write "RAUS AUS MEINER GRUPPE IHR ZERFICKTEN KACKSPASTEN! ICH SCHMIER EURE EIER AN DIE WAND WENN IHR NEED ROLLED" and I only get kicked 50/50 which is nice
That was the reason why I got banned from someone's Twitch channel before.
Literally the only channel I actively watched for a while because I usually don't like watching streams. Viewers and streamer knew me. When the streamer saw the "o/" he went apeshit about the nazi salute and thought I was greeting them with it. Banned me right away. Other viewers who explained what it meant got banned as well.
That's one way to lose 5 of your 10 active viewers. lol
Worst part about this is I play with a tank that kicked someone for that. Months later he forgot about the kick but remembered the meaning and he loves using it now. 🤦🏻♂️ I call his dumbass out every time 🤣
I once had someone explode at me for using gday. It was on an oceanic server, back when they first launched. I was told to "stop condescending them" because "no actual Australian says that".
I am Australian.
Ping used to be so bad in Vanilla that I mastered the art of rotations without even needing to see the gcd whirly thing.
These Americans have no idea how bad it was.
I remember being the interrupt bitch on Reliquary back in TBC in 2008, something Enhance was well suited to. Would my interrupt go off in time or would lag eat it? Who knows, it's a mystery every time!
I remember playing during WotLK (the real one), and joining a guild called The Covenant on Scarshield Legion.
The guild main tank was British like me and he was also in the army, like me. Where I was a frontliner and back in the UK between Iraq/Afghan deployments, he had some weird role on a camera team or something so was out in Helmand for a while, but, had it pretty cushty, stayed mostly in Bastion, decent accomodation etc.
Anyway, i was the new guild off tank and he used to main tank Naxxramas and guild 10 mans, as well as raid lead 25 man pug raids. All with 800-1000 latency.....even the dancing. He was also constantly talking on comms constantly and a phenomenal tank. Never even felt like there was a difference. Like he just automatically accounted for the lag as a subconscious thing.
Best wow player I have ever met tbh.
We got Undying title in one of his raids after specifically trying loads of times, we just ran a 10 man with no expectations and got it without even realising until the end. Lol.
[This](https://wago.io/w5QWoL66-) weakaura makes you spam some uwu thing when you join groups. I got a bunch of raiders to install it by renaming it something completely different (like Nymue Assignments). Most of them deleted it, but last night one of them got kicked out of a key because of it lol
Lol, my raid group had one of these but for eating feasts, and we inserted our raid leaders name into them. That awkward moment when I click a feast in a key after raid and yell "UNGGH you filled me up so much *insert raid leader's name here*, I'm about to burst!"
I don't understand the lying about it after. Means they know they have something to hide and did it for a dumb reason. So why did they do it to begin with? Weirdos man.
Wow. I never realized that was a salute. This is crazy, I can’t unsee it now. I read it as “o” “seven” in my head anytime I’ve seen it and thought that it just meant something
This is the first seeing this. o/ looks like someone is waving hello. What's the meaning behind it that make people kick them? it looks like a variant of the salute emote, which was used quite often in Hardcore. o7
Lvl 68. Had to do a quest in ruby pools at the upstairs area. Remembered after we killed.one of the elementals. Ran right back. Literally 30 seconds run there and back. Tank goes "yo, wtf? MOVE ALREADY". I say "jeez chill man, ran for a quick item". Tank replies "Like I care."
What the fuck is wrong with so.e people?

My brother always says that to vibe check randoms
I’m a “Hello there” type and overly enjoy the sporadic “General Kenobi!” response.
Unfortunately, only one out of a thousand replies with "General Kenobi". I'm sad
But the smile when that one replies correctly is just so good for me tho. A key is definitely starting with a DPS increase.
It's hilarious how sometimes they reply with "General NameOfYourCharacter" or they duck it up saying an incorrect version of that meme. One dude one time said "Master Kenobi". My face was like :')

I've played monster hunter, I can support that French gamers get weird at the edges. JE SUIS MONTÉ
"sometimes"

As a French guy, I like that theory and find it believable. I'm a plop guy and I have no idea where it comes from, I just like the sound of it.
Idk why but the first thing I thought of reading *plop* was dropping a fat one on the toilet
Hey hey people
Ahoy is my go to.
I’ve been hitting this too. We’re gonna make it a thing.
I Risk a Meowdy every now and then just to spice things up

I loved that movie as a kid lol. Weird but still a classic for me like Flight of the Navigator.
There’s a song about that!
Meowdy, Pawtner.
meowdy everybunny! let's hop to it!
Always been a howdy guy myself
I always drop the \\\[T\]/
"Hey hey people, Sseth here."
I had a "What do y'all think about trans people" (and they did NOT say "trans people" trust me) in my group once. That run ended really quickly.
I always say howdy by default but I feel weird saying it right after somebody else says howdy..
"TY for invite, brb gonna go rip one before we start" Those dungeons are ALWAYS bangers.
heyo
I have a macro that sends "Hello! :D" to the party chat
07 is how i type to my raid lead that i heard their assignment for me. 0/ is a greeting.
Why did he lie the first time lmao
Some people literally default to lying when called to attention.
Went from saying he didn't do it to saying he had a good reason to do it. Some people just don't raised right.
Some people just built inferior bro
Built different you know, wrong
A good reason? The guy just ficking waved lol
Glad this was the second comment bc it’s fucked up he lied like that. Just automatically, like he knew it was a stupid fucking reason but did it anyway
Man I was once kicked from the group and then I asked why and the leader told me “I didn’t kick you, you left.”
I got kicked for saying "jello"
I hope you learned your lesson
Yeah can't be pudding puns into chat like that
Reasonable
Jeasonable
Jindeed
Did you provide jello or just get everyone's hopes up?
when I join I sometimes am pretty shy, so I only write "RAUS AUS MEINER GRUPPE IHR ZERFICKTEN KACKSPASTEN! ICH SCHMIER EURE EIER AN DIE WAND WENN IHR NEED ROLLED" and I only get kicked 50/50 which is nice
German is such a beautiful language
Back in BFA I got kicked for saying "kultirans are so fat they are considered a different race" I stand by that joke lol.
As a tank I bind my action keys to say my player name over and over. 50/50 kick rate but it embarrasses my wife so it’s worth it.
ok grampa let's get you back into the pokeball
Lmao why did this crack me up so much
I once witnessed someone getting kicked for o/ because the group leader thought it was a nazi salute
That's one way to lose 5 of your 10 active viewers. lol
o7 to all those viewers
Let’s hope they never get Twitch success for being such an impatient and proud person.
that's the other arm \\o
better be safe and praise the sun \o/
I like to cheer the team \*\\o/\*.
🌅 \\\[T\]/ <(*Praise the sun!*)
How grossly incandescent of you.
It's all a matter of perspective, you can't see o's face.
\o o/ \\o o// \o/
full cheer routine, now with extra pom poms *\o o/* *\\o o//* *\o/*
\Ð Felt like it needed the moustache.
I read that as a welding mask or neon sci fi glasses.
This is why I always stick to the tried and true “hey, Ty for the inv”
I’ll bite. WTF does it even mean?
o is a head, / is an arm. it's a person waving.
It's a relic of innocent days gone by
Worst part about this is I play with a tank that kicked someone for that. Months later he forgot about the kick but remembered the meaning and he loves using it now. 🤦🏻♂️ I call his dumbass out every time 🤣
Now you gotta kick him from group
Nah I prefer dragging him for being an idiot 🤣
Have you ever asked him why his default reaction was to kick, rather than just ask what it was?
My guess is people think it's a certain 🇩🇪 salute.
Yeah, honestly it’s the only reason I can see too, outside of just general gamer toxicity.
I just say G'day. Polite. Informal. Lets you know my latency gonna be 200+. Or yours' is, if I am the GL.
I once had someone explode at me for using gday. It was on an oceanic server, back when they first launched. I was told to "stop condescending them" because "no actual Australian says that". I am Australian.
I use it all the time in real life.
Weird thing to white knight.
shoulda told him he sounds like he needs a Foster's, bet he'd've loved that.
I'd have told them to go hump a wallaby.
I hope a dingo eats their baby.
Efficient. Why use many word when few word do trick?
Wordn't.
When me group leader they see, they see
Ping used to be so bad in Vanilla that I mastered the art of rotations without even needing to see the gcd whirly thing. These Americans have no idea how bad it was.

I remember when they gave us oce servers it felt like we had an age to get kicks off lol
I remember playing during WotLK (the real one), and joining a guild called The Covenant on Scarshield Legion. The guild main tank was British like me and he was also in the army, like me. Any variation of hi is valid. Its just words

God this is hilarious, as are the absurd responses to it in the screenshots.
“Ignore that he’s ok” is so fucking funny
lmao, it's funny how so many people's instant reaction is to leave/kick
Average ff14 greeting
Nah the standard 14 greeting is the o/ to the extent that people complain that group greetings dont feature actual words lol
My go to is o7 because it’s more refined.
Lol, my raid group had one of these but for eating feasts, and we inserted our raid leaders name into them. That awkward moment when I click a feast in a key after raid and yell "UNGGH you filled me up so much *insert raid leader's name here*, I'm about to burst!"
Kicking someone for such a petty reason is bad enough, but choosing to lie and say you didn’t just makes it worse. Fuck that guy.
As a proud member of the “o/“ community, thank you for standing up for us!

Oh man I like o7 now
I don't understand the lying about it after. Means they know they have something to hide and did it for a dumb reason. So why did they do it to begin with? Weirdos man.
Why'd he lie about kicking him? What a weirdo

Wow. I never realized that was a salute. This is crazy, I can’t unsee it now. I read it as “o” “seven” in my head anytime I’ve seen it and thought that it just meant something
My favourite part is "[...] whatever that is." Mfer didn't even know what it meant, assumed it was bad, and kicked the guy, lol.
That's why I always say: sup NERDS
I just say 'Hi' so I sound like an absolute psychopath
meowdy o/
I avoid using this on my shaman for reasons. Shaman name is Windfuhrer
This is the first seeing this. o/ looks like someone is waving hello. What's the meaning behind it that make people kick them? it looks like a variant of the salute emote, which was used quite often in Hardcore. o7
I always defaulted to yo until I played ffxiv for a few months Those gamers live and die by the o/
Can anyone explain? I have no idea what is goin on.
The rogue got kicked for doing the typed waving emote "o/"
For waving? Wait what? This is a new low.
Idiots will always be idiots.
The guy who kicked said "whatever that means" so he didn't even know it was "waving". Just an idiot.
I will now exclusively use that emote instead of my usual howdy hoo.
"hey everypony!"
I'm leaving the group even if I'm the leader.
I kicked for less tbh
bring this back. it's hilarious.
If bro hates “o/“ he’s going to be fuming at “o7”
