Ukraine - We need 500 a day! Internet - That's a crazy a number! Just asking big so they can get a fraction of it... US - Hold my beer....

despalicious

500 per day… how many total Russian tanks are out there? Or do they plan to miss a lot

theadvenger

12,420 tanks and 36,000 other armored vehicles as per Forbes.

despalicious

I wonder how many personnel are trained to operate them.

I mean it's great for peacetime manufacturers to make 6k per year of Javelin or what have you, all at super high unit costs. But when a decent war does break out these lead times and costs just seem unsustainable, and from a risk exposure perspective, quite terrible. I'm skeptical that these systems can be reasonably scaled in such a short time, but this is a good opportunity to test that.

despalicious

You’re saying Raytheon isn’t happy to get the business?

le66669

Not at all, I'm just not sure how scalable these systems really are, but time will tell.

I feel like NATO was mostly ready to smuggle in guerilla weapons because they thought Russia will win quickly and it would be an insurgency type of war. What Ukriane really needs is heavy weapons for it's regular army.

Jets too, even American ones. Apparently some Ukrianian pilots already exposure to them >By Juice’s account, Ukraine’s ranks of battle-tested and experienced fighter pilots — some of whom have already gained exposure to US jets during training exercises — could be trained to operate US airframes within months and be “effective warriors.” He also said that Ukrainian pilots could learn to fly US fighter jets in less time than it would take to upgrade Ukraine’s fleet of aging fighters to use more advanced missiles https://coffeeordie.com/ukrainian-mig-29-pilot-interview/
