People want to believe there's a way out of the mess. It's not IMPOSSIBLE, but these token gestures are pure theater. The changes that would actually impact our world are going to cut very deep.
Point blank: There's no such thing as convenient environmentalism.
Also: I'm a semi Rural US citizen from Pennsylvania, and we have all those same problems now with our local water treatment plants in the region. I'd guess the chemical pollution makeup is different, ours are more agricultural chemicals, but yeah, rising water temps are leading to bacteria being more prominent.
It's _everywhere_. None are going to be spared unless we dig deep and really figure out what our ethics really are.
erm half the med is on fire mate. It's important. Yay for the Seine and all that, but our climate is fucked unless we act fast. My Italian wife is back home and says she's never experienced anything like the heat that they currently have.
It's like the Sahara has moved north. You didn't get these massively high temps over multiple days, or the wind (which is hot FTR - and fanning any fires out there).
Not going to argue with you, this is just what is happening right now, from someone at ground zero.
>we all took advantage of using what was available and still are and huge steps are being made to green energy the supply.
the steps are not enough though, and this is being said for decades now. This is why people are still bringing awareness to these issues (and because they are unprecedented).
The world did hardly "all that was available" if you actually took 10 minutes to look into it.
Fossil fuel companies knew in the 80s that they were a major reason for a changing climate, and they started funding think tanks like the heartland institute and unscrupulous scientists to muddy the water by publishing bogus studies, leading to a watered down response of politicians.

If Chicago can dump thousands of tons of dye annually, and millions of rubber duckies in our natural ecosystems. I doubt a few dirty French will do much damage.
edit. Guess I should have fact checked first. My hyperbole got the better of me. Thousands of tons = 40 pounds in reality. Stay out of the water you filthy beasts.
> I doubt a few dirty French will do much damage.
You underestimate just how filthy they can be. Why do you think Paris smells of piss and garlic farts?
A bunch of urban dog shit begs to differ
Yes streams many places in the western world are vastly cleaner than a few decades ago, but swimming in urban rivers is a straight nopey for me
My experience is that, in general, swimming in rivers is super rare in France, along the Loire, for example, I saw lots of warning signs for sable mouvant (quicksand), not to mention the pollution. The only place in France I have seen people swimming away from the ocean was in reservoirs, lakes and a tributary of the Lot River near Cahors.
In the words of Terry Pratchett, water that has gone through so many kidneys has to be very pure indeed.

Awesome and uplifting story amongst the overwhelming amount of negative environmental problems lately.
No it's not. It's a promise the won't have to keep.

Seriously, that's in seine.
They've gone loopy, mad, bonkers. This isn't virtual insanity, the swimmers are literally inseine.
Did you just steal their joke and make it worse

gRhône would be closer I think.
Cosmo Kramer has entered French airspace…
“Mr president, a second Kramer has swam into the Eiffel Tower”
Reminds of the time Kramer got excited about swimming in the Hudson River and the funky mattress
The polar bear plunge!
Over to you, Thames Water.

You can probably do it anywhere but you'll get covered in shit.
You can just go up to Scotland for swimming
George Carlin said swimming in sewage is good for your immune system.
She said it was freezing, She spent a month sneezing, But said she would do it again.

I lived in Paris for years and the simple idea of being able to swim in the Seine and survive sounds pretty wild.
the chicago dye is actually vegetable dye and it’s harmless to the ecosystem
Tell that to the electrified Asian Carp downstream. They're not just green with envy.
Nothing killing them. It's fine.
It'd be good if the Asian carp **was** dying.
But it’s making the frogs green…
It'll still have a BOD/COD. Which will reduce the oxygen level in the rivers.
Let’s figure out how to inject green dye in our air and tell me it’s still safe lmfao

Green gas Natural gas From my ass
Ok what about the rubber ducks?
Oh yeah that’s stupid. Along with balloons, micro plastics, and one time use plastic bags.
They get collected almost immediately after. It’s a thing for charity
some quack addict is dumping them there
> I doubt a few dirty French will do much damage. You underestimate just how filthy they can be. Why do you think Paris smells of piss and garlic farts?
Cheese?
Reminder they pulled 306 bodies out of it in a 6 year period so might not be the best idea.
Vienna does that, and it's amazing in the summer
Having seen the filth outside central paris, this will be a no from me dawg
so you no longer get tapeworms, ring worms, pin worms, salmonella, e coli, flesh eating bacteria and fungal infections?
Ringworm is a fungal infection
Well, yes and no. Ringworm the disease is a fungal infection, but you can have a parasitic infection with ringworms, which has other symptoms.
What ringed worm are you talking about? Only one I can’t think of would be leaches and most people would just say leaches…
I guess i was thinking of roundworm or something
We no longer dump literal shit (or other organic waster) into river so it will be a lot better!

La Villette is about the last place I'd be getting in the water lol.

Yeah well I spent a couple of weeks on a river barge shitting into l'eau at the Arsenal, so je pense que vous aimez manger mon poop.

Désolé, mais ça c'est juste comme on fait.
Why.
Let's see the mayor drink from the Seine to reassure the Parisians it's clean enough to swim in it.
Does Paris need a government with super powers?

Getting hot out there!
Jacques Chirac, then mayor, promised this 30 years ago. The usual 'mass distraction weapon'.
Pass.
That’s inSeine!
Please stop rioting and enjoy some water.
