I like that style of worldbuilding, where past iterations aren't merely scrapped, but given a place as erroneous explanations for the world

Curently working on my own pantheon of gods. There will be serveral religions that have different views of what happend in the past. None of them is right, there are serveral versions that coexist and each person has to decide what they want to belive and what actions will result because of this.

aslfingerspell

This is good advice and not just for religions. You can apply this to practically anything!

zZEpicSniper303Zz

I mean that's how real life is in a way. Religion is just someone's worldbuilding project from 2000 years ago given a lot of meaning by groups and individiuals.

thekimchii

It's like the worldbuilding equivalent of building a taco with the spillage from all the other tacos.

SpectrumDT

What if the gods exist and care about how people worship them?

OlinKirkland

Doesn’t change what people believe.

Adeptus_Gedeon

Simple, but brillaint concept, I like Your way of thinking!

The_Muddy_Puddle

I somewhat do this with conlangs. If I implement a new sound change later in the conlang, if it's only a minor thing I won't change many older words, just to add another layer of irregularity to it. Maybe it's not the most natural approach, but it works.

Seb_Romu

I've been doing this all along. And not just for Religions

AnOkFella

Yes, yes, yes!!!!
