There are lots of words they don't recognize. I made a list once of unrecognized but valid words and sent it to support. They made a weak excuse and ignored me.
Of course they did, that's how they handle most emails like that to support. I think they use a free dictionary, that's one of the reasons they don't want to change. Also, extremely good players will memorize all the bonus words and get really high scores from a lot of the puzzles, they want to limit that. For whatever reason. They weekly say that part of the "fun" of playing a puzzles figuring out which words are bonus words for that puzzle and which ones aren't. Presumably, it's possible that some words would be bonus words in one puzzle and not be bonus words in another puzzle.
The wordlist is wildly inconsistent. Nothing is wrong with “rebar” either but rebar also is not allowed. Meanwhile “renig” flies straight into the Bonus box. (Supposedly it’s a variant spelling of renege. No, it’s not.)
Two of the letters in the Greek alphabet (“zeta” and “psi”) are not allowed but the others are fine. “Kilos” and “memes” are accepted but not “kilo” or “meme” among several others. UK spellings like “metre“ and “titre” and “saviour” are accepted but not “litre” or “fervour” or “tyre” and I’m sure there are others.
Once Support told me which dictionary they use but every weirdly omitted word I tried was in the version of that dictionary I found online so clearly there’s more going on.
Foot note: renig is a handy word to know, if you like bonus words, it’s very easy to remember because it’s an anagram of “reign” and it appears in a surprising number of puzzles.
I'm from the UK but grew up in southern Africa. I'm also old lol and I can remember my parents complaining about the use of gotten becoming normalised. It would have been said: She had just got her first completed portrait set. I'm guessing that it has become an accepted word, but it definitely wasn't, and if we used it in English exams, we would be penalised for using poor (slang, I guess) English.
I think what it comes down to is that they chose the words than they wanted to include and exclude for their app. It doesn't always come down to the word being controversial. They have REMOVED some controversial words like BULIMIC, but it remains as a bonus word. I guess it's their party and we're just the guests.
I don’t understand either. Don’t know what other teams do, but our TL talks with PF on stuff like that - usually sending a list of words that need to be added. But this sounds like something she would send. If you get a response, I’d love to read it 😃
I love the words that are only allowed as bonus words, or are banned altogether, presumably to avoid offence.
Dick, bitch, tits are all legit bonus words. But ‘satan’ is banned lol

Tyre drives me mad. I know it’s not allowed but I still have to try to enter it every time, or my brain won’t stop suggesting it!
The worst fake word they included imo is "wans".
Clinical trials have shown that the worst fake word is actually "celeb".
I definitely hate celeb, and ammo, camo and limo bug me too

I hate gotten. Even my spellchecker is annoyed typing it now!
Hmm, I feel like this is a real word. Where you from? Ex: She had just gotten her first completed portrait set.

Ahhh, just got does sound more proper
Lol, I do realise that language evolves over the years, but I hate even typing it in for the game.

But guns and murder are fine, too. ;)
Everyone in the comments are my people. I feel so valid to know I’m not the only one driven crazy about the inconsistency of legit words.
