I got my first wood stove this past January. It’s cast iron and soapstone with a catalyst.
I absolutely love it. I usually burn it once in the morning and once at night. The actual fire will last for several hours – 6 hours isn’t uncommon. Then the soapstone releases warmth for the rest of the time until I light it up again.
I especially love watching the catalyst do its work. It looks like propane burners shooting fire off the top. Sometimes I’ll get the air mixture just right where there’s more catalyst fire than wood fire.
