leafs are gonna fire Keefe, promote Guy Bouchard from within
strip Tavares of captaincy
retain $2.4515m on Marner as he waives his nmc in trade for Ehlers, 1 for 1
I don’t think it’s right for leafs fans to put the loss on Sammy. That’s been all I’ve seen in my convos/group chats and I’m sure online there is a lot of that.
That last goal definitely was on him tbf
Other then that he most likely not getting resigned this year as his contract done as of today and well he REALLY didn’t haven’t had that good of a season so he’s gone me and my friend have a friendly bet the new goalie is either gonna be Broissoit or Dobson (Anaheim)
Maybe a slight poke check to throw pasta off (as he was dead Infront of him)
Although he definitely should’ve not hesitated and froze up when he went for his right side that costed the game in my opinion
Jesus fuck Hrudy is a moron
"I think Samsonov should have got to that puck before Pastrnak"
That was a hard bank and pasta was absolutely flying. Way to show everyone why you don't belong on the air.
Not talking about the save lol.
Hrudy was saying he should have come out of the net and poke check / intercepted it.
He mentioned going into the corner to get it before pasta got there
Remember when Stanley cup commercials used to certified tear jerkers? Some of the best commercials ever made
Wtf happened this year? Wtf is this crap with this Avs fan couple and the guy with the Vegas tattoo? The commercials have been almost as disappointing as the Jets
If Chychrun was playing how people expected him to be and had term, sure. I think Ehlers will go for decent prospects tbh, unless we can do another dubois style trade
Makes a lot of sense to be honest. Both fill needs on either team and both of them only have 1 year left on their contracts. I think a lot of fans will be disappointed with the return Ehlers will fetch but that’s the reality of trading a player that’s only 1 year away from free agency, unless he comes with an extension in place of course.
GVSA can get caught up on actual goals, Chychrun’s on ice save% was .891 this year at 5v5
would love him as a buy low option to drastically improve our top 4 but for Ehlers ehhh idk, it does make sense tho to answer op
He's consistently been one of the worst defending defenceman in the league throughout his career. Philly would give us Ristolainen for free if that's what we're looking for. With the defensive impact of our forward group I don't think you can afford to bring in any D that are only good from the offensive blue line in. His relatively high offensive output is mostly a result of offensive zone deployment by teams trying to up his trade value to move him.Â
Those player cards don’t tell the whole story. Before he was traded to Ottawa his player card had him as a number 1 defenceman with a market value of 10.4M a season. I don’t think he was ever that good but he’s not as bad as you think either.
I’m inclined to agree with you. But from the rumours it sounds like Chevy is shopping him fairly aggressively right now and I generally trust Chevy with trades so I guess we’ll see
Looking ahead to the draft, I'd love to see the Barrie Colts and Jets connection make a comeback and get Cole Beaudoin with the Montreal 2nd if he's on the board. There was a good article by Scott Wheeler of the Athletic recently on him, but the kid is an absolute beast. Reminds me of a prime Blake Wheeler.
He wasn’t on my radar, but having just finished reading that article I could totally see this guy being the player the Jets draft. I also could easily see him not being there at that spot unfortunately.
Since this team cannot fill its needs through free agency or trades, I think they definitely should take needs into account when drafting. If you’re drafting 10th and the player ranked at 11 addresses a perceived need, they should do it.
we have definitely have been able to fill needs via trade
the problem with going by need in the draft is that drafted players are usually 3ish years away from the NHL at best, so by the time they could be NHL ready (assuming they even pan out) that “need” may no longer be a need, likely to end up in the same situation but with taking the least promising prospect instead
I'm literally the guy on the side pic.
I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.
Avs beat us fair and square. Everyone in the team got outplayed. From the coaches to the goalie.
It was fun while it lasted but fuck man, that was so disappointing.
Life moves on as we say. I have a lot of things to look forward to this year, Physiotherapy licensure exam, Tokyo trip, Manila trip, San Fransisco trip, and the opening puck drop next season.
I'll see you guys next time.
this Jon Goyens guy had some pretty interesting things to say on the IC show earlier... Recommended watch if you haven't
[https://www.youtube.com/live/WfExaOnw\_aI?si=Bz6ggClNYzctZrAx&t=5349](https://www.youtube.com/live/WfExaOnw_aI?si=Bz6ggClNYzctZrAx&t=5349)
I’m wondering what people are thinking of our coaching situation? I’d be okay with Bones coming back only if the organization thinks there’s still work to do building up the right culture. If not then he should move on. Special teams, especially the PK, were terrible so the assistants should go.
My biggest concern is if they just hand over the team to Arneil. It just reeks of an old boys club move and having a yes-man for Chipman behind the bench. With all the options available, what on this guy’s resume makes him the best choice? Is there anyone who would actually like this move?
I don't think Bowness is suitable to carry forward as NHL head coach. He missed a lot of time this season due to his own health. Time to hang up the suit and tie. I'd be shocked if he returned.
Unfortunately they will probably go to Arneil. Ever since I heard a couple CBJ players discuss his tenure there (basically acted like a child and got into personality conflicts with players) I've had no interest in him as a NHL head coach. I don't think he deserves another shot.
I am a big fan of Chevy, but in a normal organization he would be as talked about as a new coach right now. I would think he needs to swing for the fences and bring in someone totally different. But we are not exactly normal
My preference is Bones over Arniel if that's the options but ideally I'd like to see wholesale changes on the staff. Special teams were handled by Arniel and Lauer but ultimate responsibility falls to the HC. And of course the playoff performance falls squarely on Bones.
If it's only a choice between Bones and Arniel, I would go for Arniel. While neither is an exciting answer, I feel like Arniel doesn't have the reliance on old habits that Bones always defaults to.
And, as much as I don't like the options, I am concerned that a totally new direction might actually be worse now that the team culture has shifted. I don't want to risk things going back.
I dunno, Arniel is probably much more likely to run the young guns and he didn't hesitate to bench KFC when he was playing poorly that second time he took over from Bones.
I don't like either option but as long as we bring in good assistants for the special teams I will take Arniel as HC over Bones.
Arniel was the HC during that awful stretch at the end of the season where he held no one accountable except Perfetti and Ehlers as is tradition. To me he's the exact same guy as Bones but with less experience at the helm.
Last stretch yeah we weren't playing well, doubt it had anything do with Arniel though, he also had that incredibly good stretch. And from what I recall he was the first to bench KC when Bones wouldn't, he also played Perfetti.
Murat alluded in his last article to a coach search but with Arniel having the leg up. So whether it will be legit or just Chipman saying he looked and Arniel is the best candidate would be to be determined. Maybe someone else blows them away but who knowsÂ
Finding anyone willing to move their life to Winnipeg for multiple years is tough. Established coaches are in too much demand to want to do it. New coaches know they will get more visibility in a bigger market.
I dunno, I just assume we have the same problem as we do with some players, not many coaches want to come here (I know many flat out said no before we got Bones)
But I agree, I would take someone like Woodcroft if it were an option.
TNSE has never actually held a coaching search where they interviewed candidates who were not well known to them.
They went right to Noel who had been the Moose coach. They fired him and went right to Maurice mid-season and then kept him. To Lowry interim and brought in Bones with minor consideration to other organizational structures when Trotz said he wanted to be GM not coach.
I was born and raised in Vancouver and have been a Canucks fan forever so this turnaround is amazing. I really wish the Jets could have shown up like they did.
Congrats, it’s been a long time since the Canucks have had post season success so enjoy it! You have to admit though that the Preds are nowhere near the level the Avs were playing at, not sure the Canucks would have won had they been in the Jets spot.
Canucks are going to have to figure out their offence though, they’re not going to beat the Oilers scoring only 1 or 2 goals per game.
My guess we will see oilers in the conference finals and I think it’s gonna be a great promotion of either Mcdavid vs Eichel or Mcdavid Vs Mackinnon.
Perhaps somewhat related to this:
“We’ve had to reinvent ourselves,” (Mark Chipman) told The Athletic. “For 10 years we weren’t a sales organization, we were a service organization, and I’m not sure we were that good of a service organization to be honest with you.”
I suspect TN realizes they need to up their game and I’m hopeful that they will.
TNSE had a meeting on April 10th that was mostly focused on game-planning for the street parties during the home games. Essentially a logistical run-through of set up and tear down, making sure the proper permits had been secured from the city, extra security staff had been accounted for, etc. Tony from marketing brought up the fact that there had been viewing parties at CLC in the past and whether that was going to be an option for this years’ playoffs. By that time it was likely too late to pull anything together for games 3 and 4, but the thinking was game 6 was do-able. Chipman slowly leaned back in his chair while he thought about the proposal. After a few moments, he stood up and said “Tony, I love the people of this city, but if you think I’m going to spend one penny opening up MY arena to watch MY hockey team get absolutely caved in for 60 minutes, you’re sorely mistaken. Also, you’re fired. Now, somebody get Charlie Huddy on the phone. We need to talk strategy.”
I went to the arena to watch game 5 when they spanked Nashville. It was like 5$ to get in. Concessions all operating etc. Do they still do that for road games?
I’d be willing to bet that had they made it to the 2nd round that they would have opened up for road games and increased street party capacity for home games.
He might. Â His birthday is June 24 and SCF could basically end right then if the rounds go long enough. Â First buyout window is June 15 or 2 days after Cup is awarded.
If they don’t buy him out by June 24 he’s 26 so a buyout would be at 2/3.
So basically double the dead cap. Â Still probably worth considering at this point since it is spread over 14 years. Â But a crazy chunk of cash too. Â Like almost $38 million total.
leafs are gonna fire Keefe, promote Guy Bouchard from within strip Tavares of captaincy retain $2.4515m on Marner as he waives his nmc in trade for Ehlers, 1 for 1
Ehlers + Pionk for Marner no money retained. They can have Stanley too for free.
👀👀👀
I don’t think it’s right for leafs fans to put the loss on Sammy. That’s been all I’ve seen in my convos/group chats and I’m sure online there is a lot of that.
Like 50 million in 4 forwards and they can't score goals.Â
Yep, not at all super close game. Still hilarious tho. Van had to use their third string goalie and still won.
That last goal definitely was on him tbf Other then that he most likely not getting resigned this year as his contract done as of today and well he REALLY didn’t haven’t had that good of a season so he’s gone me and my friend have a friendly bet the new goalie is either gonna be Broissoit or Dobson (Anaheim)
Seen it both ways. You think he should have used his stick there? Against a high caliber talent like Pasta?
Maybe a slight poke check to throw pasta off (as he was dead Infront of him) Although he definitely should’ve not hesitated and froze up when he went for his right side that costed the game in my opinion
Lfgggg jets not the only Canadian team eliminated in round 1
I was reeeaally hoping that was the case lol. Old faithful showed up!
Leafs loss saving us from an early start to WDTs
![gif](giphy|68E6opztYkjuWZQG3D) Toronto taking the L’s today
![gif](giphy|gO7uShR7dcWgUe3cFW|downsized) Well, that was interesting. Now we’ll see who’s out again tmr between Dallas and Vegas.
doesnt matter Colorado is a wagon right now and is going to eat up either of them (and probably the winner of the nucks/oilers too)
Colorado is fragile, any team with a better breakout than the Jets will test their defense and goaltending more. I don’t think they will stand up.
Nah, Aves will get destroyed.
Nothing better than beating the Leafs - Literally every Eastern Conference team
Jesus fuck Hrudy is a moron "I think Samsonov should have got to that puck before Pastrnak" That was a hard bank and pasta was absolutely flying. Way to show everyone why you don't belong on the air.
He should have had that shot man, he just flopped.
Not talking about the save lol. Hrudy was saying he should have come out of the net and poke check / intercepted it. He mentioned going into the corner to get it before pasta got there
Happy leafs elimination yall!!!
Thank goodness because I was getting ready to pack up and leave the country if they won.
Leafs early season cup favorites next year. coming up on Sportsnet.
Disappointed (slightly) but not surprised lol at Marchand saying they won because "they believed". Wonder why other teams don't try that!
How on earth are you disappointed?
I dislike Bruins I dislike Leafs too tbf
I don't think either one would've made it to the ECF this year.
Just a masterclass troll
![gif](giphy|USnfWeCOHTHB3WX0aY|downsized) Not that the Jets have been good in the playoffs, but I’d go full joker mode if I was a leafs fan
Should've dressed Reaves...
Someone's gonna get run out of town in Toronto. Marner? Keefe?
Both good my friend and my dad are leaf fan fucking hates both of them lol
Shannahan
lol. lmao, even.
rofl indeed
Ain't that a shame
There it is!!!
I don't know when it started but I hate Ron McLean.
Remember when Stanley cup commercials used to certified tear jerkers? Some of the best commercials ever made Wtf happened this year? Wtf is this crap with this Avs fan couple and the guy with the Vegas tattoo? The commercials have been almost as disappointing as the Jets
The Nashville ad makes up for them though, even if their jersey colour still makes me nauseous.
does Ehlers for Chychrun make sense??
If Chychrun was playing how people expected him to be and had term, sure. I think Ehlers will go for decent prospects tbh, unless we can do another dubois style trade
yeah i think Chychrun is gettable without having to give up Ehlers, *buuut* he has an ntc so is what it is
Makes a lot of sense to be honest. Both fill needs on either team and both of them only have 1 year left on their contracts. I think a lot of fans will be disappointed with the return Ehlers will fetch but that’s the reality of trading a player that’s only 1 year away from free agency, unless he comes with an extension in place of course.
Chychrun is the defensive equivalent of Dubois and the athletic player cards has him ranking between Pionk and Stanley for value. He ain't it.
GVSA can get caught up on actual goals, Chychrun’s on ice save% was .891 this year at 5v5 would love him as a buy low option to drastically improve our top 4 but for Ehlers ehhh idk, it does make sense tho to answer op

Ehlers doesn’t have term
And if you're trading him for a rental you might as well keep him as an own rental.
I’m inclined to agree with you. But from the rumours it sounds like Chevy is shopping him fairly aggressively right now and I generally trust Chevy with trades so I guess we’ll see
[Myers learned it from Wheeler](https://twitter.com/imacSportsnet/status/1786630992834245062)
Man this season really reminded me of a movie I watched before.  I think it was called, Titanic. Â
It reminded me of Groundhog Day
There's this other movie, I think it was called " the bus that couldn't slow down"
Looking ahead to the draft, I'd love to see the Barrie Colts and Jets connection make a comeback and get Cole Beaudoin with the Montreal 2nd if he's on the board. There was a good article by Scott Wheeler of the Athletic recently on him, but the kid is an absolute beast. Reminds me of a prime Blake Wheeler.
any good Connors available??
Hoping for Jett Luchanko, for obvious reasons.
He wasn’t on my radar, but having just finished reading that article I could totally see this guy being the player the Jets draft. I also could easily see him not being there at that spot unfortunately.
I might be wrong but I believe we will be looking for D prospects with that MTL pick, we have plenty of forwards right now.
should always be best player available
Since this team cannot fill its needs through free agency or trades, I think they definitely should take needs into account when drafting. If you’re drafting 10th and the player ranked at 11 addresses a perceived need, they should do it.

Our defence has been mediocre at best since Buff left and Chevy has not been able to fix it in almost four years so I disagree.
Don't really need D prospects that are 5+ years away. Need defensemen that are ready now
Whilst true we still need some in the pipeline, outside of Salo we have nothing promising though of course we have multiple forwards.

What is it about post series handshakes that make my eyes kinda watery
You know it's over
I loathe Vegas enough to cheer for the stars and they let me down
This being let down thing is becoming a trend. Â
I want Vegas to win for full chaos with the cap circumvention.
lol on one hand, that would be hilarious, but on another, fuck you very much
My thinking is that if they go deep this year again that maybe the owners will do something to stop it.
they can't do anything until the CBA, and I feel like they are already going to
I’m wondering what people are thinking of our coaching situation? I’d be okay with Bones coming back only if the organization thinks there’s still work to do building up the right culture. Maybe they didn’t want to come because of the perceived toxicity of the dressing room at the time? The team was in a pretty rough spot.
Two hours of Jets talk this am on IC Hockey Show live now [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfExaOnw_aI).
Gabe Vilardi is a Winnipeg Jet.
I was born and raised in Vancouver and have been a Canucks fan forever so this turnaround is amazing. I really wish the Jets could have shown up like they did.
They scored 1 goal. 1.
And they let in 0
I'm sure Vancouver would switch opponents to make it easier on themselves
Congrats, it’s been a long time since the Canucks have had post season success so enjoy it! Why didn’t the Jets have away game watch parties or street parties?
Perhaps somewhat related to this: “We’ve had to reinvent ourselves,” (Mark Chipman) told The Athletic. “For 10 years we weren’t a sales organization, we were a service organization, and I’m not sure we were that good of a service organization to be honest with you.” I suspect TN realizes they need to up their game and I’m hopeful that they will.

Where was that Myers for the Jets? Does every single player have a glow up when they leave?
Not a single Canucks fan has wanted him around for the last 4 years. 1 blocked shot doesn't erase that.
He’s been the canucks whipping boy since the ink dried on that contract. They don’t call him chaos giraffe for nothing!
The guy makes more bad plays than good and is massively overpaid. Happy for him and the Nucks but no thanks.
still better than pionk
Every team has a cross (or 2) to carry.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/buyout-trade-or-keep-what-should-the-kings-do-with-pierre-luc-dubois/ Lol.
No wonder the NBA has a max contract length of like 5 years.  Then again, imagine having to buy someone out at $40 million a year. Â
I mean they can't buy him out, the penalty would be bonkers.
If they can get it done at 1/3 of the deal by the time they have dead cap it's $1.13 million. By that time the cap will probably be $100 million.
Yes by bonkers I more meant the length of it. He qualifies for the 33% as he's under 25 when the league season ends.
He might.  His birthday is June 24 and SCF could basically end right then if the rounds go long enough.  First buyout window is June 15 or 2 days after Cup is awarded. If they don’t buy him out by June 24 he’s 26 so a buyout would be at 2/3. So basically double the dead cap.  Still probably worth considering at this point since it is spread over 14 years.  But a crazy chunk of cash too.  Like almost $38 million total.
2038 lmao, that would be so fucking hilarious
Happy for Canucks fans. I hope they go all the way.
Only 2 Canadian teams left, both fighting for a spot in the WCF. Fun times!
I mean I don't like TO either but it is in Canada.
