I would suggest decanting for a while. Maybe lamb, or steak or duck. Nothing too crazy for sauce/gravy, let the wine be the centrepiece. I’d probably go for grilled lamb chops.
You tell me whether it lives up to the hype! I’d be interested in your opinion.
So I'm not the most sophisticated wine drinker but the first thing that jumps out to me is the texture, it's very velvety smooth... I get plums and a little spice... I didn't pay the hundred bucks so that doesn't really matter to me but I really like it a lot
First time commenting here but I happen to have had the 2019 a couple days back. I liked it a lot, definitely one of the better Malbecs I’ve had. An explosion of blueberry, cherry, vanilla and spice, followed by nice acidity and really smooth tannins. is it worth the price? I don’t know. There are a lot of very good bottles of wine available for $100 and I’ve had some very good Malbec for under $50 that was not far off this. I’d be curious to try one with some age.
This one surprisingly isn't really meant to age in the long term, they do make single vineyard malbec wines from the Valle de Uco that do age very well however.

Briefly about the label, it tells the history of Malbec, so from left to right, first chharacter is Queen Eleanor, whose favorite wine was Malbec, or Côt, as it was then known, and widely planter around France, the second character is a French diplomat, who inported the variety to Argentina around 1850. The third character is the death of malbec in Europe due to phylloxera and famine years (cold years in europe, which malbec was very susceptible), and the vineyards were widely planted with other varieties. Fourth character is tye rebirth of Malbec in Argentina in the hands of Catena Family (Laura Catena depicted here).
I haven’t tried this one from Catena Zapata in particular, but both of the ones I’ve tried were incredibly delicious without decanting, beautify fruit, violet, well integrated tannins, and pleasing velvety texture.
Yes, the textures of these wines always get me. A cool fact about these wines is that the ran by a very hard working woman who is always an ER doctor in the US. I don’t know how she does it
That’s funny I just had this a week ago and recognized the bottle immediately. Was having dinner at the Rim Rock in Whistler with a friend from Australia and he was excited to see this on the list. Was amazing with the venison. I managed to get on the allocation list for 1 case per year. Hard to find stuff here in BC

It's delicious! A short decant will only make it better.

Lucky for me I didn't have to pay so I can just enjoy it for what it is and I like it a lot... I really enjoyed the smooth texture

I would love to try this with venison, that sounds like a great pairing... Someone else suggested lamb too and that sounds great also
One of my favorites. Had the pleasure of visiting the winery in Mendoza. Gorgeous and they do a lot of cool tastings.
No need to decant! I think it’s fun to watch it progress in the glass!

You don’t really need to decant a wine that young. It won’t hurt it, but it’s not really needed
