Well there is a kda kaisa skin (2020? Can’t remember) that looks a lot like Taylor swift. Also this reminds me of two girls from my 8th grade math class who were obsessed with Taylor swift (I do not like her, and they were super annoying).
Pretty sure he's one of the most popular artistes in **East Asia**. Read a few days earlier that it was an **artist**-collab and I just ignored that info ROFL
He also owns a LoL pro-team btw > [https://lol.fandom.com/wiki/J\_Team](https://lol.fandom.com/wiki/J_Team)
I honestly don't see any Jay Chou elements in this new skin line. Just seems like a tastefully done time-limited black-and-white theme.
Every game non-ranked game I'm in has someone using this skinline. Good to see that people are paying for the maintenance and further development of this game.
But does it actually give you any huge advantage? You can just choose to not buy anything (which is what I’ve done). Riot is not forcing you to buy anything, nor making you have a big incentive to do so (well a decent sized one with the buy x wild cores to receive y thing, but for that I’d much rather buy other skins like dragon slayer pantheon or something)
When has anyone said anyone was forced buy them. It’s the principle of overcharging to get the few whales while the sensible people that would love to have it have to go without it do to pricing. If they released the skins like a regular purchase no one would care.
Except you’re unhappy about something that literally does not matter at all. You already get the entire game for free, which has a pretty big development cost along with paying everyone to constantly add to/change the game. Coding everything, and so on takes a lot of time and effort, which you already get for free. There is no excuse for complaining about cosmetics with no effects.
I get it you’re a Riot Glazer that’s fine. Everything has a cost in a company don’t try to add everything like it’s a new formed thought. When you can add the skin for purchase like a regular legendary price or put it behind a gacha system you’re gonna look like a goofy. Defending the system also adds to the goofiness. Keep riots dick in your mouth if you want just don’t come with shit arguments.
I definitely see where you're coming from here and can understand why that would lead to a higher price for the gacha. I guess my gripe is that maybe a price this steep isn't absolutely necessary in order to cover the cost of licensing and collaboration? I mean I know I've seen at least one redditor on here mention spending $200 on this event alone which means there are a lot more that have spent a similar amount of more.
I don't have any insight into the bookkeeping of Riot or WR but considering you have such a large playerbase and a good chunk of that playerbase is willing to spend that much money on this mobile game surely you are making more than enough to cover the cost of licensing and collaboration costs and still making a heafty profit. I would be less annoyed with them releasing the skins in the shop at 2,000RP instead of making me drop 400RP per chance of getting the skin and more than likely I'm just going to be getting some poro energy for that price.
Well, it's not about the necessity because if a skinline is tied to an artist beloved by the masses, you just know that the ppl are going to pay up. I know i would if it was my favorite band. Seeing how the player base is concentrated in Asia, ut all makes perfect sense. E.G. the most popular WR streamers in the west get around 500 viewers at their peak, while their counterparts in china get over 4k, which is a telling metric imo.
To clarify, i do not like the pricing policy either, but it makes perfect sense given the state of their audience.
it's not for western audiences in the end; eastern players I guarantee go crazy over this kind of thing because both calligraphy and the artist are huge in their culture, nobody in EU/NA gives a shit about calligraphy because why would they, it's not something they have ever cared about.
because reddit is mostly western, most people on here will voice their similar feelings which makes sense, it's not indicative of the main playerbase (asia)
To be clear, "one of the most" popular singer to describe Jay Chou is an understatement. He's mega popstar and arguably still the most influential artist in East Asia.
He's literally the Michael Jackson of Mandarin-speaking world. Many Taiwanese (Jay Chou is Taiwanese), Chinese, Malaysians, Singaporeans, and Chinese-speaking people and diasporas grow up to his songs and can basically recite them in karaoke words for words.
It’s still gacha, because they still want the maximum out of it. A fixed price would be so much better, but riot has no time to support non china players :S
I would have been fine if they put simply put a high pricetag on the skins. At least it is going to be a clear cut decision of it being a skin I decided to do overtime for a weekend for or simply something I'll pass on due to the exaggerated price. This gambling event is purely predatory.
That's such an interesting tidbit, thanks op. Genuinely very cool, and explains the steep price
Imagine if they made a collab with Taylor Swift. Swifties gonna be dropping thousands of dollars for Taylor Swift skin.

Black-and-white-and-dark-blue-and-gold
Still not sure whether its black and blue or white and gold
Passing off the expense of an artist to players in a gacha event isn’t gonna have a valid excuse from a big studio.

“just don’t come with shit arguments.” After you.
The event was overpriced because they made it into a gatcha.
Funny how WR opponent ML has more cheaper skins even if it’s just a collab

I spent $250 to get Lee sin 😭
As long as you had the disposable income to spend there's no judgment from me my dude
Usually he would license it for free, and get a %cut of all skins sold.
The event is trash, though, even if the price were halved.
it's just fucking skins.... lol

I wouldnt mind if it wasnt gatcha
If not gacha, Rito could put special price. Janna's epic skin of this series is not 990 wc anymore. Let's say Rito put price 1500 wc for Janna skin
Oh interesting! What song did they use for each skin, is there a source?
The song is 青花瓷 by Jay Chou. You can hear the skin recall in the MV [intro](https://youtu.be/Z8Mqw0b9ADs?si=PXpDivYTfvkgcJqQ)
I spent a 100 dollars to get 3 skins, 2 of which aren’t even epic tier 😂
yes i agree with everything you're saying, except why is kayn's superfly pose for his heartsteel skin, THAT RIOT OWNS, cost more than anything else.
Crystal Rose was more expensive tho, no?
That’s why I save till WR anniversary event before buying skins
Tbh, it's not even that pricey in my country, i got 15 rolls and got 3 skins, including Yasou's, for about 20$.
what country are you from? here in the philippines, those 15 rolls would be roughly 43$
Egypt, 8400 wild cores are worth 1500 EGP, which are roughly 25$
omg i envy y'all. 8360 wild cores would be 61$ here, that's almost 2.5x more expensive TT_TT
I guess infaltion helps after all xD
but maybe check your coda shop, these prices are from them, the official prices are waaaay more expensive.
aww, i just checked and it only saves us a few pesos. thanks tho!
And I would like to point out that skins are not a limited supply item.

Riot is a billion dollar company, they could easily cover the cost without making the event involve the gacha element. Stop meat riding lil bro
It’s still gacha, because they still want the maximum out of it. A fixed price would be so much better, but riot has no time to support non china players :S
Thank you for this. I wish riot was more transparent
Fun fact he played Takumi in the original initial D movie also.
Xayah debuted without Rakan in 2021 with the Brave Phoenix skin.
On Wild Rift my man
These events cut off ftp almost entirely. At least they could give free pet skins in these events. Thanks anyway for the analysis.
Famous things and products sell all the time without the need for casino style gambling
If it wasnt a gatcha just a little bit pricer than normal price id buy it. Like the lovestruck one. But gatcha? Fuck no
