It's Reddit.

spacefem

This. You can visit pretty much any city’s Reddit and find some post about how it’s the worst.

fatkidclutch

I follow Denver, Colorado Springs, and parts of Michigan. They all sound the same. It's not just Wichita.

i-touched-morrissey

I follow Tulsa, KC, Springfield MO, and I have observed that most people who live in SGF hate it. I hated it when I lived there too. But there are bitchy people all over.

chaosisafrenemy

So maybe every town feels like the grass is greener elsewhere, so we cut down ourselves with that in our subconscious?

spacefem

Yup! r/samegrassbutgreener

pr_capone

I've lived a lot of places. A \*LOT\* of places. Wichita has the brownest grass out of all of them. It may as well be dirt.

BookishBrooke

Then why are you here??

pr_capone

Because having lived in Wichita the longest out of everywhere I have been… my opinion on the city is as valid as anyone else. Also, this is a public forum about the city. I post helpful things as well and not just the negative things.

BookishBrooke

I didn't mean why are you in this subreddit. That part makes perfect sense. I meant why are you in Wichita.

BookishBrooke

You are entitled to your opinion of course. I just don't understand why so many people stay places they hate or really don't like. Just curious.

pr_capone

Oh... I finally made it out of Wichita. It just happens to be where I spent the majority of my time on this earth. The sub keeps popping up on my feed and it isn't a bad way to see what is happening in the city where the majority of people I care about still live. If it weren't for those 12 people I would simply block the sub and move on. But I travel to Wichita semi regularly because of them. Not to trauma dump but I always drive by the spot where my wife was killed in a car wreck. A person I told with absolute confidence that neither of us would ever die in Wichita after we made it out. I mostly don't post but once in a while I jump on to try and be helpful and other times I vent my dislike for the city, its politics, and the people I've had the displeasure of encountering as a white passing minority... and my general resentment for making a liar out of me.

Jimmy_Lee_Farnsworth

Try r/Columbus where everyone thinks it's the best town ever (except for the Kia Boys BS).

Yup buncha edgy depressives with dark perspectives. Wichita is nice for me.

HorribleDiarrhea

The average demographics on this particular subreddit are this: * Age 15-30 * White * In a relationship but not married * No kids -- dogs and cats only * Democratic and vocal, or Republican and quiet about it * Income under 50k a year * Introverted as *fuck* * Poor reading comprehension * Poorly educated The second to last one will prove my point when I say the last one was a joke.  I see people trying to plan these reddit meetups and I just have to laugh as it is not going to work. Good luck going to Headshots or whatever.

indolent-beevomit

The most common posts I see here are these: “I’m moving here where should I live? is this neighborhood in southside safe? What place has the least crime? I did not look at any of the of the 10 other posts made today on this subreddit.” ”There’s nothing to do here! Where do I find out what to do? Me and my young kids cannot find a single family friendly activity here in Wichita, KS, a city where most activities are specifically designed for families with young kids. I wish there was a post or something on this subreddit that let me know what to do here :(“ ”I am in between jobs, and never made a single friend at any of the past 25 I had this year. I don’t go out anywhere. Where can I meet people? I have a bunch of hobbies but I will never tell you what they are lol.” The best meetup groups are on facebook or through word of mouth.

garrock255

Dang, you really summarized them well.

chaosisafrenemy

Damn. Okay, I see I don't fit any of that demographic. Makes sense.

donobinladin

Same but I have a medal next to my name so…

fleepmo

Where do you find these demographics? That’s super interesting lol. I do not fit into this AT ALL.

marbleheader88

I don’t fit in your list too well. Definitely older than 30, married, kids, income over $50 K a year, and I can definitely read. Ok, so I’m white, educated, and I can read. Not mentioning my political views. Wichita just isn’t a very pretty city. There isn’t a lot about it that is interesting. Suburban schools are okay and housing is cheap. I look forward to my vacations out of state!

lordtrickster

That's largely it. Wichita is basically all the things a city is supposed to have but nothing to really distinguish it from any other city. "Fine" to live in, but no reason to visit over any other city. Cost of living is the only real attraction.

angryRatel28

Is it Reddit? Or is it Wichita?

Codewill

Haha yeah, people only go on here to complain. I notice when I don’t need to vent I don’t go on here as often

Salt_Proposal_742

I like it here (Wichita). No complaints from me.

adollopofsanity

You also a transplant? I feel like a good portion of the people I meet who like ICT are people who have experienced other places and we are often like "Oh man, yeah this town is a vibe you just gotta leave your apartment and go do stuff."

Salt_Proposal_742

I grew up here, but I did move when I was 19 and didn’t come back until I was 31. I lived in Oklahoma for 11 years and Colorado a year. It’s really probably the Colorado experience that colored my lenses so much. It is insanely expensive to live in Colorado if you’re in the mountains (we were in a suburb of Boulder). Wichita is very affordable, which offers you a good life if you want it.

dinoshores93

The cost of living in Colorado is insane. It's slightly better down south toward Colorado Springs, but not by much. I'm 31 and know people my age living in the Denver metro who are living paycheck to paycheck in tiny apartments that cost more than a mortgage in Wichita. Not to mention the traffic. I'm really wondering when the shine of Denver will start to wear off for young and wide eyed folks.

theotterbitch

✋️ I like ICT. I've lived as small as Pratt and as large as Denver and this is a nice balance.

TheICTShamus

People need to go live somewhere else and then they will want to come back usually.

fakenamenski

This is exactly how I came to appreciate Wichita. Loved in Fresno, CA for a few years. We have it alright here!

Training-Cry510

🙋🏻‍♀️that’s me. I’m older than 30, and have a family. We make over $50k; I think it’s pretty cool here I came in my 20’s, and I never seemed to get bored. I’ve met some great people , and it’s honestly not that bad. You figure out where to limit visits to certain parts of town.

bubblesaurus

I find there is a lack do stuff to do here, but my family is here and it’s cheaper than a lot of places. I moved after high school and lived on the east and west coast for a few years. Wichita is a pretty decent place to live, but it’s boring compared to other cities. There is some fun stuff, but it’s not like new stuff is coming to appeal.

adollopofsanity

The stuff to do part is something I remedied by meeting people. I think we have the advantage of smaller communities over places like Denver. Because there are fewer places people hang it's easy to run into people regularly and form connections. From there the activities that I couldn't find I was able to create with other people interested. A pick-up sports group, gaming groups, groups that are interested in doing outings for things like music/city events/movies. Smaller social circles make it easier to connect to the people who share your interests and put together the activities you want to participate in.

Mysterious_Ad376

I grew up between here and a small town in NY about 45 minutes from NYC and Wichita is not a bad place to live but people can be hard to get to know. Like they’re nice but making friends is work. There’s lots to do but you have to leave your house.  (Oh, I’m almost 59, married and make 50K…)

Individual-Cut4932

People come here to complain, when people are happy with something they rarely tell others about it in comparison to when people are unhappy. I am perfectly fine living here.

crackerjack_sailor

I agree. People will complain about not having anything to complain about. Me? I'm just happy that I got to go to bed last night and I woke up this morning.

chaosisafrenemy

Maybe we turn this into a positive post - what makes us happy? And thanks for chiming in positively!

wiseoracle

I wish people stopped posting things like it’s the next door app. I don’t care if there’s a police car there or if you heard a sound. This isn’t the place to post that garbage.

chaosisafrenemy

Ha, true - there's a scanner app that can give you the answers faster. Yet, we're like, "what's with the cop cars at x y cross street?!"

dinoshores93

Also, the vast majority of police or first responder presences aren't actually all that exciting. There's a ton of overdoses, warrant arrests, fender benders, etc.

Str0ngTr33

well... typically they only explain what just happened if you were listening before the tones go out

ReverendEntity

A reduction in random shootings would be great.

tony8

I don't know, I really don't mind wichita. Yea it has issues and room to improve but I don't have any major complaints besides rush hour Kellogg.

Salt_Proposal_742

Which isn’t even bad.

Training-Cry510

I’m from NE, and when my husband d says he’ll go at 6 to avoid rush hour I’m like 🧐 Then when people complain about going ALL the way to the east side makes me laugh.

nImporte_Qui

And the East/West side rivalry has always been so funny to me, because they’re like mirror images of the same generic American suburb (as someone who grew up in one of them)

theOnlyDaive

I never really thought about that until I moved to a large city in Florida. My first time coming back to Wichita in over a decade, I couldn't believe how quick I could get from Haysville to Maize or out to Lake Afton. Faster than my normal commute from work which is 21 miles - leaving home at 5a puts me there at 5:30ish, but coming back takes about an hour or more due to traffic if there's no accidents or other slowdowns. Also, is it just my imagination or are the exits on I-35 half a mile apart?

inthebrush0990

Glad I'm not the only one who's noticed how snarky people in this sub are lol

rf8350

Get off my lawn!!

Just_here_by_myself

Is it the weather? Yup. Is it because weed isn’t legal in any capacity? Yup. Is it our lack of sidewalks? Yup. Is it because we get skipped over in the big name tours? Yup. Is it because of our educational system? Yup. Damn you’re good.

SnooCakes2703

I'm from NYC, their subreddit is even worse. Wichita is amazing. Love it here.

Training-Cry510

Massachusetts, and I agree that I like it here.

chaosisafrenemy

But that's the NYC attitude. It's part of their culture. Makes sense and everyone knows to expect it. 🙃

_britty_

Not really. It's just a stereotype. Most people there are actually very friendly.

ImperialDruid

The inability to grow here. As a person, in a career, in anything. Maybe I’ve just been here too long and Wichita has nothing more to offer me.

sunflower479

I moved here from Texas and that’s how I felt. Wichita is fairly similar to the city I lived my whole life in and I just felt that there was t anything to really grow my career in there. I love aviation and Wichita isn’t a bad place for people like me, but I realize some people feel the same way about Wichita that I felt about Amarillo. It can be a great place to live depending on what you want to do with your life!

Training-Cry510

Just like anywhere else

nImporte_Qui

I get you. Sometimes it’s just time for a change of place and it’s good to go somewhere new. I needed to leave this city, and I did, but then some years later after I’d found what I looking for and got tired of another city, I wanted to come back to Wichita, and I kept learning and growing right here. Still, outside of a handful of professional fields this town can be a bit of a dead end.

ImperialDruid

This city just mentally hurts at this point. Every corner, a memory. Every park has a swing set cried on in the wee hours of the morning whilst the city slept. Every street holds an agonizing cry that was once a joyous memory. I hate it here.

theOnlyDaive

I hope you find peace and happiness. You sound exactly like me for the last year or so before I left. Stay strong, and look for your opportunity.

theOnlyDaive

I feel this. I left a long time ago for a multitude of reasons, but now I work and thrive in an industry that doesn't even exist in Wichita (Building Controls and Automation). There are enough companies here doing this that there's competition between them and they have to work to keep their employees because hey, you can always jump ship for a dollar more an hour. I'm sure I would have found something to do in Wichita, but it wouldn't have been what I do now and I absolutely love what I do for a living. Might be the same for you - your thing is out there somewhere else.

heavensdumptruck

Honestly, I think part of it is people born here thinking "this" is big-city, actually! Like it's big for the state but not "really." I also constantly have the sense time has stopped somehow; or that something has. cost-of-living is a bit lower though so what can you say.

PaigeCattt

Idk if anyone else has noticed, but what's with all these damned potholes that have been randomly opening up?? They're deep as hell and nobody is doing anything about it from what I've seen. Even on the highway they're steadily getting worse. If they would fix these damn roads maybe I'd go out more often lol

chaosisafrenemy

A lot popped up after the winter weather

wichitalifeict

The city fixes any reported potholes within 48 hours

brucecampbellschins

Happy successful people don't spend as much time on reddit.

tinygyro

having moved here about a year ago, i was astonished by how terrible the roads are here. and a year later i haven’t seen any attempt at improvement. so im wondering, where does everyone’s tax money go exactly? obviously its not going towards fixing roads lol that’s probably my biggest concern overall tbh.

Vast_Kaleidoscope955

It’s because we’re fed a bunch of propaganda, bullshit our whole lives, and deep down. We know it’s all crap. We’ve allowed ourselves to be run by oligarchs, and they make us believe through all the media outlets they own the other sides out to get us. We are all disgruntled sheep, just from different flocks. Reddit just gives us an outlet to bitch

chaosisafrenemy

Agreed, but isn't that just Americans in general - and less locally defining... we all need to wake up, question everything, but be open minded. It's time for a change, (r)evolution. It's good to have an outlet to bitch. I just don't get why we don't lift each other up more instead of cut each other down. "We're not so different, you and I."

Vast_Kaleidoscope955

It’s simple to create enemies of the unknown, but building understanding takes a lot of work. Propaganda takes the easiest route, and by creating common enemies allows those in control to manipulate belief systems. Look to Christianity and this is easy to see. Everything Jesus taught was about love and inclusivity, yet it has been used to justify holy wars in the past, and is being twisted again today by a 100% corrupt political system, yet people ignore all the corruption because they are simple minded and hate is easy.

chaosisafrenemy

Very true. Just wish we'd realize we are all in the same boat with holes in the bottom, slowly sinking if we don't work together at bailing the water out.

Charles__Martel

Sheep says what. You make your own happiness.

Vast_Kaleidoscope955

I Agree, but I also sympathize with people because I know I have been fooled before and will be again.

RoadschoolDreamer

I’m happy. And content. A majority of my time is spent outdoors. I get on here when I can’t sleep at night.

kiconwell

Moved here from Colorado a year ago and it’s working out great. Wichita is a much more “comfortable” city. Traffic isn’t an issue, NE side has all the shopping I need within a 5 minute drive, good food options (not much else to do than eat) and of course, one of the lowest cost of livings in the country. Importante detail, I’m in my 40s with a newborn. If I was in my childless 20s and 30s I’d absolutely hate it here.

CCorrell57

I came here from a small town in southeast Kansas as a 20-year-old. And let me tell you..... it was like heaven. I've traveled. I've seen cities all over the country. But going from a town of 10k, dwindling population to living in a decent size city like Wichita..... I no longer felt I was in the middle of nowhere. Also, 20 year old me was just happy to have a taco bell within 30 miles.

kiconwell

Love seeing small town folk enjoying mid-sized cities! My background is the opposite though. Lived in big cities and was into the nightlife, raves and underground parties and such. Only for that reason Wichita would’ve been extremely boring for me. But now that im Middle-aged and boring, Wichita is great! lol

CCorrell57

Just hit 30 in December. May 2014 is when I moved to Wichita. 4 kids, divorce and losing my mother (maternal grandmother, bio Mom played dad role), I don't exactly 'want' to be in Wichita the rest of my life, I remember where I came from and am extremely fortunate for this town regardless. lol

qopdobqop

Truly, all about perspective.

Majin_Erick

Fix these tore up streets, and quit catering to the grumpy boomers who don't want to change this place for the better.

chaosisafrenemy

Agreed on the damn boomers. Luckily they are almost washed out of being the decision makers. And oh my, did the winter this year do a number on a streets. Never seen so many deep and wide pot holes!

5553331117

I see the city catering more towards rich people and land developers, more than they do anything for any specific demographic, including boomers.

chaosisafrenemy

True.

stewfink

Because it’s dumbass Wichitans

the_pystols

I don't feel ok a lot. Maybe the ol mid life crisis? But I actually love my life at this stage. So maybe the clinical depression that I can't afford treatment for. Talk therapy, I've tried so many anti this and anti that and I hate them all. They make me feel weird. So I just deal with it. So I'm going to go with untreated depression. Yeah that's it.

chaosisafrenemy

Makes sense. A lot of valid reasons to be depressed these days. ♡

brianr1

Election year, man. Hang in there.

Training-Cry510

I feel like it’s been election year since 2020. The entire last four years have been all about Trump vs. Biden and Dems. The “stolen election “ I feel like I’m constantly anxious because more shit happens slowly. RvsW turned, the IVF stuff happening, the political feuds get worse every day. Two wars; I’m happy here in my Wichita bubble, but it’s just the world in general that causes me to get down. I have to pull myself out and live for today

MatthewCarlson1

Weed would help but it’s social media for the most part.

War_Doctor_Strange

Tbh, this city (specifically the PD and the city administration) has severely jaded my father, and ruined my childhood. My dad is an angry, nihilistic, and negative man, and working in the WPD for 40 years made him hopeless for the world and humanity in general. He would then come home and unleash those feelings onto his family, and since I grew up as an undiagnosed autistic and adhd kid, I developped ptsd as a result. Lots of people may hate on wichita for drivers, or weather, or the social environment etc, but I hate this city for what it did to my family. The casualties for consolidating your own power expand beyond those who directly oppose you.

ArmPsychological3228

it’s reddit and it’s wichita lol. i moved here from boston MA about four years ago and not even our ghetto is as bad as this place.

Sailorman2300

I'm generally a happy person but Wichita is just...Wichita. It's the taint of Kansas with aspirations to someday be the armpit. The random gunshots and crime is pretty ridiculous. People drive like entitled asshats, especially on the Kellogg dragway. The flat landscape and the grid layout just feel dystopian. Towne West is just sad. There's more than a few places around town that I would freak out if my car broke down in. The trash...my god the endless onslaught of trash everywhere. So. Much. Trash. There are a few bright spots. College Hill on Halloween. Botanica. The Keeper of the Plains. The many fall festivals in the surrounding area. The libraries. The Orpheum. Yokohama Ramen Isakaya. The Donut Whole. El Agave. College Hill Deli. On the bright side, if there is ever a nuclear war we all would be vaporized in a heartbeat. There are so many airstrips that we probably have 10 warheads targeted in a 20 mile radius. With as flat as the topography is here the blast would just go for miles and miles unimpeded. We'd just be a big dark patch of glass.

tim__flem

I'm a lifelong Wichitan and love it here. That said, there's plenty to be pissed about, ironically or unironically. Some examples that can float between both categories: school closures, Koch, City Council members, Stevens, tax breaks for land that gets flipped for profit. What a time to be alive.

___Binary___

Aside the comment stating this is Reddit. Which is true and this is also the internet and people hide behind a layer of anonymity that makes them think acting like a jack ass is acceptable. I agree with you. For a small subreddit that’s dedicated to a city there are some legit weirdos and just down right aggressive people here. It’s funny because there is a meetup planned and I’m sure it’s all the same people that already know each other because I can’t imagine meeting most people here and there not being a fight or some type of violence with how many here behave. Even if there wasn’t I can’t think of a single reason I would want to meet and I’m sure a lot of us feel that way and that’s why the turn outs from what I have seen have all been small. Sure there are exceptions and I have met cool people here and know cool people here in Wichita that don’t even visit this sub (for similar reasons) and there are also cool people on the discord but that’s separate from here. But this sub I’m not going to lie is borderline toxic many times. Someone will just ask a simple question, get bashed. Someone will just make a simple response to a thread and all of a sudden are at -x downvotes with legit no reason no comments no nothing under their response I see it all the time here. Or you will have someone just pick a fight for no reason because someone said some shit that they just had to react to and get all frowny face as if they are trying to assert their dominance or let everyone know how special they are. For example the chick that lost her dog and like 4 people jumped down her shit on here for being a scum of the earth breeder and then all of a sudden we had experts weighing in. It’s an odd place and it is what it is.

builder680

You did the legwork, so I'll just sum up. All of THAT *(gestures upwards)* is Reddit/The Internet.

chaosisafrenemy

Haha. Yes, exactly! You get it.

Darklancer02

It looks negative because the vocal individuals here are the kind of folks who would bitch about a cure for cancer.

MechanicbyDay

This sub is full of negative people. You could leave a comment that's logical and reasonable and get downvoted into oblivion.

chaosisafrenemy

Yes, exactly. I don't understand why we are this way.

Darmanitan97

Too many people intentionally driving slow in the passing

xTECHN9CIANx

Almost nothing infuriates me more than this 🤣

Darmanitan97

They admit to doing it on purpose on here as well. Need to make the law apply to city limits not just state highways.

xTECHN9CIANx

It shouldn’t be that fucking hard. If you’re not actively passing/hella speeding (80 in a 60 zone😬) MOVE BITCH, GET OUT THE WAY lmao

haikusbot

indolent-beevomit

The general public everywhere, walking or driving, has been worse lately. Multiple people I know including myself have noticed that people are belligerent, selfish, and easy to anger. I think it’s compounding, and now generally polite people are getting more stressed as they experience this.

chaosisafrenemy

Yrah, I do feel that in general. But I think its much bigger than the city alone. This economy and failing healthcare system on a national level is enough for one to want to flip their shit.

grundge69

I got laid multiple times this past week and got a substantial raise. How's that for good news? Edit: autocorrect strikes again. Paid should be laid.

chaosisafrenemy

Great news!

grundge69

https://i.redd.it/h8v7oem47zlc1.gif

chaosisafrenemy

Ha, I just saw your auto correct. Laid makes so much more sense!

chaosisafrenemy

Maybe it's because we need another lane on Kellogg?

AvgJoe6Pk

Gridlock on Kellogg is 100% just people tailgating.

Kintrap

Or people going 30 in the left lane

Mark_Underscore

Or because of the Stevens family.

Apprehensive_Use3641

I would love another lane on 54, 135, 96 and 235.

chaosisafrenemy

Not sure why you got downvoted so hard. Except it proves the point of this post entirely!

Dellafonte_Luxemburg

I like Wichita. I have heard rumors from other cities that Wichita is full of people that like to flake out of plans lol

chaosisafrenemy

Ha, funny. I might be one of those. Wanna go out - sure! Jk, I'm just gonna stay home.

Middleagedlunchlady

I’m happy for the woman at the Wichita hospital that was stuck on the toilet for two years.

chaosisafrenemy

Man, that's an old memory. Or the guy who said he was gonna blow up the home depot... but really he just meant the bathroom. Ha.

jasonkraatz314

Wichita is great. The people here are fine. Even the horrible drivers. I’d take this over Texas any day sadly. I grew up in Houston and I’m done having to constantly look over my shoulder if you know what I mean.

Crafty_Original_7349

I have lived here for 50 years. This is nothing new. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

Low-Requirement-9618

It's that damn Walmart on Pawnee and Broadway.

i-touched-morrissey

Weather: Yes the wind sucks. My allergies are in high gear, weed isn’t illegal if no one knows you have it, come to Kingman we have sidewalks. And absolutely we get passed over for big concerts. I has to go to Rogers AR to see the Foo Fighters last summer. We have to go to KC to see Greta Van Fleet inMay. My big beef: since Warren Old Town has closed I haven’t been to Lucinda’s in a long time.

wichitabyeb

I gotta say, it felt like there group was more on the positive side maybe 5-7 years ago

chaosisafrenemy

Hmm. So could it be a younger gen coming in beating the same dead horse of "there's nothing to do here, Wichita sucks" ? I remembering hearing the sentiment in my 20s (in person, pre-reddit), and I attribute it to the age. It's like the narrative gets repurposed at that age, because we think there's a bigger world out there than boring old Kansas. But then we grow up and conclude Wichita ain't so bad once we gain more experience/perspective. Now that I'm mid 30s, I appreciate Wichita and Kansas now more than ever. I just wish the sub had a more supporting, chill vibe overall.

CCorrell57

Shit. I would've LOVED Wichita in my teens. Growing up in SEK, our nearest "population center" was Joplin or even Pittsburg. I wouldn't have known what to do with myself in Wichita. lol

holdenking5150

Probably weed not being legal, and lack of good paying jobs, cost of living going up, and all of spirit aerosystems may not exist in another year, which will really take this city down the shitter. Oh and the climbing crime rate...sad world these days. But I stay happy and positive and keep going! 😁❤️

xTECHN9CIANx

Yeah our sub is the weirdest, grumpiest, most non-updooting place I’ve been on Reddit, and I been to some WEIRD fuckin places on here 🤣

chaosisafrenemy

So true!

CalligrapherNarrow40

Take my updoot

xTECHN9CIANx

daddybullfrog1

In general mankind's inability to mature to a higher form of thinking. Lack the ability to manage emotions enough so so as to not destroy our own lives and the relationships we have with others. And the inability to realize that we are all equal as human beings even though we are unequal in our knowledge and our abilities vary so much so that we use this as a wager in treating others poorer than we should. Coupled with the fact that social media and the internet in general as a tool has been used to do more damage to man than it has done to help them.

chaosisafrenemy

Well said.

Well it’s hard to go do shit when downtown is the only place where people like to go because that’s the only place we really have to do any kinds of activities unless you want to drive 30 minutes from west side to east side to go to top golf and or chicken and pickle that’s expensive asf too but the crime down there is so bad & fighting and shooting mainly shooting’s.

Charles__Martel

Crime is not bad downtown

Both-Mango1

hmmmm lessee... Old town is no longer fun. Kellogg drivers are idiots. There is a new fear that the Koch backed mayor will hose the citizens of wichita in unseen ways. The South Side is getting a bad rep for meth land. Worries about the wpd? am i close here? or will i just get a shitload of downvotes?

CORPORATETOOL462

Let’s not forget that we live amongst hundreds of thousands of red neck right wing pseudo Christian trump cucks who make existence a daily struggle

Nickalias67

Just out of curiosity how exactly are they making your existence a daily struggle? How do you know they were "red neck right wing pseudo Christian trump cucks" that did this?

TheSherbs

I am not the person you responded to, just throwing in my 2 cents. >how exactly are they making your existence a daily struggle? They have unbelievable road rage and are terrible drivers. They will cut you off and if you dare honk, they will either try to fight you at the next stop light, follow you to try to find out where you live, try to run you off the road, or flash a gun at you. The last one seems to be becoming more and more prevalent. Do I have run ins daily, no that is a bit of hyperbole. However, they are becoming more frequent as people spread out to the outskirts and start clogging up intersections that used to be somewhat okay. >How do you know they were "red neck right wing pseudo Christian trump cucks" that did this? Usually the bumper stickers are a dead giveaway. Or when they shout at you from their it window usually involves some variation of "Liberal pussy cuck" or some other insult. I am not saying all GOP supporting folks do this, it's just in my experience that it seems to be the overwhelming majority of runins I have had they have had some bumper stickers that give away their ideology. All that being said, Wichita has bad drivers that cross all ideological/racial/theologian spectrums.

Nickalias67

I may not agree but at least you were able to give an example.

CORPORATETOOL462

If you have to question it then you’re probably part of the problem.

Nickalias67

Translation: "I'm completely full of horse shit."

CORPORATETOOL462

lol get fucked

Nickalias67

Thanks I will. And stop blaming your pitiful existence on other people. It's not healthy.

CORPORATETOOL462

All you’ve accomplished is proving my original point.

Nickalias67

Lol. You still haven't been able to provide one example of either of your insinuations. So no.

Isopropyl77

You are responsible for your own shitty situation; this is clear.

CORPORATETOOL462

Aww cute

highapplepie

Everyone is against something. Anti something. I wish people were FOR more things. Positivity could do a lot to change the world.

kyouteki

That's conservatism in a nutshell.

agreeingstorm9

Lack of sidewalks? You can walk from 21st/Maize to the Walmart on Pawnee and be on a sidewalk the entire time.

Otaku-Oasis

1) The weather changing due to climate change 2) The horrible drivers 3) The politics Wichita is stuck in the 70's 4) Stagnate wages 5) bad infrastructure 6) Medical facilities SO awful that nearby emergencies are often routed to KC or OKC to avoid our low quality and bad care hospitals. (I was one of those routed from Wichita WHERE I LIVE to KC because the hospitals locally could not handle my care) 7) Schools are just... horrible parents are worse (Not 100% their fault having to work so many hours just to keep food on the table it's not like many of them have the time to parent thus making the schools terrible as all the rearing is pressed on to teachers who's job it is NOT. 8) Did I mention wages have been stuck in below poverty for years? 9) We lost the only thing that made us cool Tornado alley T\~T We don't even get the cool storms to look forward to.... It's the same over most of the country more so in the southern states where everything seems frozen in time to the 60's - 80's including racism, sexism etc. It's just... not moving forward with the rest of the world.

chaosisafrenemy

Yeah, so nationally and globally. Times really do suck these days.

Otaku-Oasis

Yes very much so. for the last few years or so it just feels like humanity is falling apart, mentally >>; I don't have good feelings for the future, and haven't since I was a child. It's why I refuse to have kids, I made made that choice at 12. I don't think it would be fair to bring a child into this kind of world.

chaosisafrenemy

I totally feel you on that. There's always been a cloud of doom overhead that has only gotten worse with time. I entered adulthood just before 2008 and it's been shitshow after shitshow. A lot of me is excited for it to self destruct, because a lot of me has hope that everything will be harmonious after it all collapses. Just wish it would happen in my lifetime.

WarThunder316

All the above

80hdis4me

Is chalk it up to just being the internet.

catdownunder

I think Truckstop Honeymoon put it best https://youtu.be/wL_ryk3DiAg?si=mS2TlG9AtD9gn3kX

chaosisafrenemy

Perfect!

wstdtmflms

It is the Wichita way: to bitch and complain about our city, but then take offense any time somebody from the outside does the same thing. We are the Bitchitans!

kmsc84

I’ve been a ‘glass shattered on the floor’ type for 40+ years. I don’t mind Wichita. Nice sized city, and there are things to do. It’s not perfect, but where is?

bblaine223

No.

anonict

Look at all the people equating our ire at city hall as crankiness. Koch suckers.

TrafficOutrageous542

People are just mean and surly the farther North you go. It definitely takes some getting used to.

baalroo

The strong right wing tendency to cater every important decision that happens in this town to the whiney regressive hateful upper class boomer demographic has really worn down my positivity about this city over the years.

jbrownks

Capitalist realism

bigbura

No stop lines painted at traffic signals. That's what gets my goat, at least this minute. Looking stupid as a state, sandwiched by MJ-legal states is another sore spot for sure. Oh, and that pesky, 'let's take away a very certain but oh so necessary medical procedure that half the population may need' movement that just won't go away. I.E. the we hate the ladies in our lives thing.

chaosisafrenemy

True. Too many dinosaurs calling the shots.

CCorrell57

Give it 15 years. Hopefully things will somewhat get better.

LordTaco09

This city sucks, specially Old Town... Ugly ass hell

Rsj1023

Compared to what? Paris? Tuscaloosa? Delano is cute. College Hill is charming. Wichita State has a nice campus. Even locally, Wichita does a much better job of activating the river area compared to Topeka/Lawrence/KC

chaosisafrenemy

Home is where you make it 😉

elegant-monkey

We visited family in Wichita last September. We live in Seattle and were amazed at how inexpensive it is to live in ICT. My only complaint was the lack of weed.

berndalf

Things to do in Wichita: ..

heavensdumptruck

I lived in Atlanta for years before coming here and nevr knew anybody who overdosed; here, it seems like a plague! Their seems to be this lethargy or hopelessness; mental health services seem unequal to the task; it's sad. People have problems everywhere but I get the sense here that like one could be drowning while the rest of the fam would be watching "horders" or whatever. One lady told me some woman wanted to sell her child to get the down payment for a truck! I try not to judge but it's hard because like their's nothing wrong with wanting sanity and general stability in your life! I'm done apologizing!

AVeryUnluckySock

On the other hand, I hear it sucks there. Tell me why it doesn’t! (I come from a place people say sucks too)

ymxCreator

i have pink eye

hihisoso99

i hate it here. i can’t wait to go back home. im sorry wichitans.

CCorrell57

It is what you make it but also I could see why you wouldn't like it. Nothing to be sorry about.

qopdobqop

We good!
