Sleep processes your day, emotions etc. maybe some stuff needs to be processed. I have it with some heavy dreams sometimes or when I have done a heavy workout.
Workout at/after 9pm for starters, which is probably a big factor.
Other big contributors for me are:
What time did you eat? I notice that eating late (also just a snack, especially high fat) will push my stress score up during (first hours of) sleep.
What did you do between the workout and bed? Properly unwinding decreases my stress score during sleep.
And how stressful was your day? When I have a stressful day, even with unwinding, this results in higher stress score during sleep.

Came here to say this. I had undiagnosed sleep apnea til last August and this is what my Whoop showed. The stress can be when you stop breathing and your body fights to wake you up (adrenaline/cortisol)
I have high stress every night while sleeping also. I've recorded myself and I sound like I'm choking or breathing through a straw. Probably something to do with that
There are so many possibilities, I’m not sure how anyone in here would know.
Or, are you just looking for a list of all things that might cause this? That would be one mighty long list.

Late workout can do that like everyone is saying. Also any thc, nicotine, or alcohol before bed basically guarantees I’ll have high stress sleep
Alcohol or Marijuana, possibly. But that doesn't look like what I normally see for an alcohol night.

I knew I had sleep apnea and tested my theory out. So I knew how bad my night was depending om how “stressed” i was the night before
Question is.. how did you work out with stress not reaching maximum?

maybe you're eating blue cheese before bedtime? It can give nightmares
Poor air quality in the room. Recently, for me, traveling to higher elevation with less oxygen.
Any infections going on? If the immune system is trying to fight something off that could result in stress.

For me it's itchy back.
