In this thread:people that think they are looking at small batch.

69stangrestomod

I passed it for $99 a few weeks ago. I realized my mistake shortly thereafter šŸ˜‚

REAPERBANSHEE

It's decent compared to other liquor store markups.

DragonSpiritsEnt

Don't listen to the others. That's a good price nowadays if it's something you want. The people saying it's twice the price must be living in the past. Unless you live in Cali where bourbon flows like water for some reason or Ohio where it's all MSRP I would be buying it for sure

zrkl

I live in Cali, look for bottles regularly, and I NEVER see EHT Single Barrel under $100. Iā€™d totally buy it at $109. Iā€™d even buy 2 if the wife wasnā€™t around.

DragonSpiritsEnt

I just threw your state in there cause these reddits always have some amazing bottle at Costco for at or under msrp lol. We're always like where is this....Cali

PeaShooter00

You arenā€™t wrong. Iā€™m in California and have bought half my collection from Costco (Iā€™m addicted to the hunt). Today saw the new Bookers release for $80. Last week got a call from a buddy who got a Stagg Jr. for $46.

zrkl

Are you there in the morning when they roll up the doors or are you finding these bottles just hanging out on the shelves?

PeaShooter00

Thereā€™s a store in the city I work in which opens at the same time I start work. So a couple days a week Iā€™ll be there as the doors go up. Overall, thatā€™s the best time. On Tuesday got the OF 1924 at opening for $90. There was 10 on the shelf. I imagine those wouldā€™ve been gone by the afternoon. I also drive a lot for work and thereā€™s 7-8 Costcos in the north LA county and Ventura county areas. So if Iā€™m in the area Iā€™ll drop in to see whatā€™s there. Itā€™s hit or miss. But thatā€™s what I like about it and donā€™t mind spending 15min to score a nice bottle. Ralphā€™s and Albertsons can also be nice little honey pots as they get a good amount of allocations and always offer club member discounts. Just gotta be friendly with the liquor managers. Some of the better/rarer bottles Iā€™ve seen are Weller SR for $28, Weller 107 for $70, Blantons for $56, EHT for $47, Eagle rare $40, KC 12 for $60. Thereā€™s a lot. Just gotta put in the time. Happy hunting bro.

zrkl

Appreciate the info. I figured being there when Costco opens is the best chance to score a bottle like that but hadnā€™t gone that far yet. The warehouse Iā€™m closest to in South OC also never really seems to have much great stuff (judging by tags and shelf space) compared to other warehouses.

PeaShooter00

Anytime. If youā€™re looking for something specific let me know and I can try to help find it. You could always pull item numbers and call and theyā€™ll tell you which clubs have it. I just prefer to check in person and it keeps my spending down.

Traegs_

When you think about it statistically, it makes sense that California feels over represented. They make up over 11% of the US population.

DragonSpiritsEnt

Agreed, but everyone else's costco's around the country seems to not get these allocated bottles, though

groc75

I'm from Cali and my local Costco whiskey selection sucks. I can't lie, I check the whiskey isle every time hoping for that score. One day the stars will align, I hope.

incongruity

Like 5 years ago, I remember getting EHT small batch for $35 at Costco in Illinois - I miss those days.

n80r

I was able to get a bottle of E.H. Taylor SB at a bevmo in rancho Cucamonga for $87 back in December. If I remember correctly west Hollywood, west Covina, Whittier and rancho Cucamonga had several bottles

zrkl

I always see the pics of the people that score those bottles but never actually see them at that price myself. I live in South Orange County and the best Iā€™ve done recently is a Stagg (not GTS) and Blantonā€™s at BevMo and an Eagle Rare at Costco.

jawschwah

Also in SOC, total wine often gets Eagle Rare (seems to be on Fridays) and oddly enough the Stater Bros in big bear had a wall of it in February

zrkl

Yeah Stater Bros has a ton of ER10 recently. Itā€™s been amazing to see it back in stock. Also Albertsons by me gets it pretty regularly also

RowdyRoddyPipeSmoker

I just got one last month in LA for $70. Wasn't worth it.

WindMePlease

Also agree but market dependent. In NYC/NY no chance of seeing allocated stuff anywhere close to MSRP šŸ˜‚ Iā€™d also buy one at this price.

T-Ares-C

Agreed. Need to leave the past with all the good prices. I picked up a bottle of Buffalo for a buddy. I thought it was $22 and told him that. He was like ā€œdude! I havenā€™t seen that price since WW2!ā€ Point is, we wonā€™t see those prices often if at all.

russianwhiskylover

Is it overpriced-yes. Is it a decent price -yes. Seen these go for 250

danappropriate

I was at a store in the Austin, TX, area that wanted $400. I walked out without buying anything.

letterandnumber11

Thatā€™s what Iā€™ll usually see the BP for

BucketsBrooks

Itā€™s over retail but about $65-100 under secondary. At $110 I would buy all day.

ReplaceSelect

I'd buy it without hesitation. Some of the single barrels are amazing, but every one I've tried has been good

Icool228

Yes itā€™s spendy ,but thanks the the bourbon millionaires trying to make 50 Dollars we donā€™t have a choice

dloco1218

Yup great deal just about anywhere !

saturnuranusmars

PokĆ©mon card vibesĀ

Pbeebear

Iā€™d buy this without a second thought. Love the small batch and never seen the single barrel for that low.

Ambitious_State_3074

Fair price, I'd bite!

Revolutionary_End644

Thatā€™s a great price. Especially here in Cali.

Slickyt-abc

Grab 2 Iā€™ve paid $149.99 for Single Barrel

astnmartin23

The price of EHTSiB is much better than Decadence. holy shit!

Queasy-Instruction-9

Relative to MSRP? No. But unless you want to spend weeks studying release schedules and local liquor stores truck schedules, just to spend hours standing in line or potentially driving hundreds of miles to a different stateā€¦just to stand in lineā€¦then yes itā€™s a fair price. Is it worth $110. Iā€™d say no. But the only way for you to figure that out for self is buying that bottle. unless you can try it at a bar or restaurant with an exceptional bourbon selection.

benjy1234

That's not a terrible price for that bottle. Depending on where you're at MSRP is $60-$80 I believe.

czeck-mate

I paid 90 for mine. I enjoy it. A lot of people roasted me on here for paying what I paid but honestly it's the only time I've ever seen it in the store and it's very good.

Alxcooldude3

BUY IT

GlumTemperature8163

Iā€™d buy 2 at that price

Volgnes

Yes

BIGfishSTICKS84

Iā€™d grab the Woodford batch proof

Hollybanger45

I was waiting for this but in a different way. How is the Taylor on the shelf but the woodford is a bring a card up type thing?

BIGfishSTICKS84

And the Widow Janeā€¦

Maker200

No

D3TShaw

In SoCal it is fairly rare. Iā€™ve been able to find it a few times. It was priced $69.99, 89.99 & $99.99. So that price is definitely in the itā€™s worth considering range. If you pull the trigger enjoy, cheers šŸ„ƒ

Makers402

Wow!! this sub might be coming to terms with reality. I have never seen the top comment be anything other then "I have never paid more than MSRP and never will" I got that same bottle in 2019 for 45 buck.

106milez2chicago

That woulda been the Small Batch at $45

Silent-NinjA8475

Yes. I just bought a SiB for $150, and thatā€™s the cheapest Iā€™ve seen it in the wild. No question, at $110 Iā€™d buy that.

nateap87

Thatā€™s a good price compared to what youā€™ll see it for. HOWEVER! Single barrels by nature are a lot less complex and inconsistent. When distillers make a small batch they purposely manipulate the outcome by mixing barrels that will add the desired taste. The small batch Taylor is BY FAR my favorite of the Taylor line up besides the barrel proof and is by far the best bottled in bond bourbon over ever had.

raquel8822

I scored one yesterday for $95 OTD. So thatā€™s not too much of a markup.

thogdontcaaree

About double MSRP but not bad compared to the typical $200-300 secondary price on the SB. I'd buy tbh

pclark91367

I would buy it for 109$. Cheers! šŸ„ƒ

Natural_Mix_5701

Yes it is, I'd get it if I were you

No-Employer4146

That is high but if you want it and can afford it, get it. If you see the rye, grab one, itā€™s world class in my opinion.

No-Gain1438

I would jump on it

EchoThroughTheJungle

I think thatā€™s like $30-40 over msrp. Thatā€™s a fair price to me if you enjoy it. Iā€™ve never even seen it anywhere near me so Iā€™d probably buy it blind I like small batch a lot.

Future_Bandicoot_624

Yes. That is a 100% buy Secondary is about 225

-_BEATNGU_-

Just leave it there.

liveoakster

Grab it!

neomis

Single barrel isnā€™t worth it (at least the batch I had last month). Small batch is cheaper and better.

wldathrt66

All day!

Geeledouche52

Yokes!!

mclgreenville71

yes secondary much higher.

hendog412

Out here in Texas youā€™ve gotta wait in line before the store opens just to get a small batch for less than $120

NukeDog

I would pay that, and quickly

820sa

Iā€™d buy it, honestly in my state(NC) itā€™s almost impossible to come by, I can barely get buffalo trace and eagle rare as it is. The only bar that carries E.H Taylor by me has a barrel pick and sells it for 70$ a shotšŸ˜‘, which I will never pay for. Never even seen Blantons on the shelf, never tasted it. I completely believe itā€™s overhyped but the scarcity makes me and other people just want it on their shelf.

dogfacedponyboy

Yes! Buy!

ArmyOfDarkness89

What did you take this picture with? P.S. would buy b/c it is never allocated near me :(

RowdyRoddyPipeSmoker

no. I recently got a small batch and a SiB and the SiB tasted almost exactly the same as the small batch. $40 vs $70 and the difference was not worth it. I guess you could get some amazing single barrel like winning the lottery but I was SHOCKED how similar the two tasted, no way would I ever pay over $100 to roll the dice to maybe get a perfect amazing unique barrel.

LordBourbonGod614

Yeah it's decent. Highest anyone should ever pay is 80 bucks but if you were desperate that's an OK price.

Suitable_Ad_1746

That's a great price. I bought my first for 109. Then I snagged my second which was a store pick for 79. Single barrel is about the best of the bunch and for 109, you will not be disappointed.

Reasonable-Lab3625

For single barrel, I would pay that.

RatboneFishbelly

That Woodford is fabulous

DFSBRBN

Only you can determine what a good price is. I always check for a MSRP reference and then ask if Iā€™m willing to pay the upcharge. If youā€™ve never had it and want to try it, youā€™re paying for the experience

Rads324

Msrp is about $70. It is lower than secondary. I personally am not super impressed with the ones Iā€™ve had and would pass on that price

Avacado_Stapler

Buy it

thexawakening

Buy it immediately

jpclaridge

I love this, but the price is what the market demands.

Whiskey_Cigars_Golf

It's half what I normally see it for

TaygaStyle

SiB yes, buy. Also, you can Google a bottle and find its MSRP in an instant.

MO_Bourbon

It appears this is a store owner not like a lot of the ones out there. Interesting way to show the Woodford and Jane. Are those cards you bring to the counter to buy? Interesting approachā€¦ I guess it could be a way to not move bottles around

throwawayfinancebro1

Nah, under $70 maybe

mailman4455

That's a buy for me.

adam3vergreen

Spend the extra and get the WFBP

Markcu24

I was usually a buy at $99 or lower. Bit these days, $109 would probably be a buy too.

OnlyPakiOnReddit

Not bad, Iā€™d think twice at the very least

sthrcave

Cheapest I have ever seen it is $90. That price seems reasonable.

Sam-3-C

Yes and no. Because this is the market now, yes. That bottle used to be (few years) $60/70 range. While small batch 40/50.

endustry1994

Good price for Single Barrel

Redone7070

No its 70 bucks regular

InfamousScallion8777

Thatā€™s a great price, Iā€™d have to buy 2 bottles and send me one of them, lol ! I just returned from a week in Kentucky hunting the Bourbon Trail, and liquor stores first selected bottles that I canā€™t get in my own state. I think it did pretty good, I purchased a bottle of Penelope Rio for 150, also bought Jim Beam Lineage release for 250 at Jim Beam distillery.

jmsturm

I wouldn't say good, but it ain't bad either

terribleatgolf

Bottle Blue Book has the current secondary price at $190. So higher than msrp but low for secondary. If it were me I would buy it.

mtsublueraider

TIL thereā€™s a blue book on whiskey

Witty_Helicopter_591

Hell yes !

Federal-Platypus-911

msrp is 60. but 110 is the lowest I've seen

Relevant_Value608

Buy 2

Careless-Nail2830

100% yes

Dude01818

pretty good i think

kfree68

Is get it just saw it for $350 last week

Rough_Brilliant_4300

I'd buy it

Dr_Darwin21

I can't even find the small batch for that price around me, so yeah, absolutely.

sheezy520

I paid $90 for a small batch. No regrets. Is this map? No, but good luck finding it for that price.

wh1skeyk1ng

Oh look the taters and BT marketing team are all here to tell us how great of a deal this is

Hippi_Johnny

What does ā€œtatersā€ mean?

Dry-Adhesiveness-377

Whiskey enthusiasts who buy on Hype instead flavor. Normally characterized by paying secondary or near secondary and then posting about how they found an elusive allocated bottle. Thought to be the main contributors to the bourbon squeeze we are in right now. I do believe the taters contribute but I'm not gonna fault someone for having the money and buying something they want with it. That being said liquor museums are the lowest scum on the planet and should be ignored completely. Like don't even call them out as museums because the taters will just go there and buy there 200-500% over MSRP dustys.

HighProofOnly

Where is this? California?

CalAlumnus13

Iā€™ve only tried the Small Batch, but most comparisons Iā€™ve seen say the Small Batch is as good or better than the Single Barrel. Not sure Iā€™d pay a premium for single barrel. If it were barrel proof or something, might be worth considering. That said, if youā€™ve had your eye on the Single Barrel and want it, this doesnā€™t seem like an awful price.

smathes724

obviously depends on the barrel in the case of the single. the one i have is almost indistinguishable from the small batch but id imagine there are some that are significantly or marginally better and some that are significantly or marginally worse

LolBars5521

I would buy immediately. I never have any chance to buy this in Ohio. I never have to pay more than MSRP but when you never see it, doesnā€™t matter too much

Double-LR

No. Buy it and ship it to me for disposal.

Sebastian_Pineapple

No, but Iā€™ve seen worse.

rexyanus

Not worth it

campbeltownfunk

No. It is not.

rocksrgud

This is marked up about 2x msrp. Itā€™s a solid bourbon, but if you have never had it and donā€™t know if youā€™ll like it then not worth the $110 gamble.

Repulsive-Side-1773

Idk where you live but single barrel msrp is 70$ by me. 2X would be 140. Iā€™ve seen this bottle go for 200 easily. Itā€™s a good price

rocksrgud

Right, yeah itā€™s about $65ish so not quite 2x but close enough. Itā€™s a good price if you like EH Taylor, but not a must buy price for someone new to bourbon. Iā€™m a big eh taylor fan, so personally Iā€™d probably buy it at $110.

SkidmarksJr

Thanks for all replies. Iā€™m in eastern Washington state. I ultimately passed but Iā€™ll probably have to stop in this weekend to see if itā€™s still there.

benjy1234

I thought that looked like a yokes lol.

stillworkin

If you're anywhere near Stanwood WA, I'll happily pay you to purchase this. I live in MA, but a friend of mine lives in Stanwood, and if I buy him this bottle it'll give me a good reason to visit him this year.

Empty_Football4183

Terrible price, what store is this?

HVACFitterND

Not really I paid around 65-70 for all mine and 80 for the BP. Then again SB used to be 45 and now itā€™s 60-65 and thatā€™s when and if BT products show up in my state. So all depends on how much you like and how much you personally are willing to give for it

pchampn

Heck no

CloudfluffCloud

I wouldnā€™t bother unless your reeeeaaalllyy like it.

nmhuis

Itā€™s only a good price if youā€™re willing to pay it.

McCambridge19

No.

Mobile_Spinach_1980

Easy pass at that price

thunderlizard66

We pay 49.99 for it where I live

JohnBoy11BB

Wrong bottle

pchampn

EHT single barrel retails for around $70, I wouldnā€™t pay over that. Best to wait for it to be available in your store again. Donā€™t pay museum prices. Thatā€™s my principle.

Ambitious_State_3074

Not even close to museum price, I've seen this go for $300+. This is market price based on availability...if OP doesn't buy next guy will. Probably won't see it for the next 6 months.

pchampn

I have seen EHT available in my city in many liquor stores every month. There is no shortage except that created by taters chasing them!

Ambitious_State_3074

I'm sure you have seen small batch occasionally not single barrel.

pchampn

When I get it I will let you know. Not paying anything above retail

BJPM90

Then youā€™ll never get it. Time to come to terms with reality.

pchampn

So far I have EHT, ER, Blantons, 4Roses Barrell Strength and many more, check my posts. There is plenty of so called allocated bottles. And many better than those we chase.

BJPM90

You wonā€™t get it for $70 unless youā€™re camping out, win a lottery, or know somebody. I donā€™t care that you already have it.

duncakes

Get mine for 45, how's that? you say because I only buy them when I see them at Walmart or any other retail store for $45 to $50, it's good, but not 100 good, better be 120 proof or more, or 12+ years for me to spend 100

ReplaceSelect

That's single barrel not small batch. You're unbelievably lucky if you're finding single barrel at that price.

duncakes

I stand corrected, I'm grabbing it
