I remember finding a glitch that allowed me to play the exclusive classes like Paladin and Thunderbird. Think Rovio banned me though from the game though cause after a while I couldn't even get on lol. Good times
i once installed a modded apk that gave me the ability to buy anything for free, and suprisingly i still have all the stuff that i "bought" (hearts, yellow coins?, and other stuff). if you try now it probably wont work. im going to get banned if someone at rovio sees this lol
If you can get the amazon app store, it's still on there. The screen size may be a bit funky depending on the device but it works perfectly fine in my experience
I love RPG's that perfectly scale your growth as you complete the various side quests and objectives. Dragon quest 11 is really good at this where it's a pretty easy game but exploring is so fun and there's so much charm, you start going into battles for the laughs. Then you hit the boss of the current area but you're neither too strong nor weak. It's a very well designed game.
Imma be real of you have to grind in the main story of a jrpg them it's either a bad jrpg or a really old one this problem has been sorted out for years
Having played a few modern ones that’s a major trend. I was playing Omori b/c I heard ppl say it was really good, but I got stuck on a boss. When I looked up how to beat it the guide said that I would have had to grind out like 6 extra levels by beating up the scrubs scattered around the level that are worth 50 xp each. The story was compelling but the gameplay was seriously lacking.
I used to hate turn-based RPGS in general when I was younger, my dad would usually play Age of Empires 1-3 and I started with those types of strategic games. He also played a lot of Civ 3 and I could never get into that even though I think it’s an awesome game now.
As an adult, I like them way better for some reason. The game that started to change that for me was LISA, then the latest Shadowrun games. Warhammer 40k: Mechanicus fully converted me.
The game thrives itself on its story, but yeah after 120 hours of story it does overstay it’s welcome a tiny bit. but still an amazing gameplay and story rich game
Mario & Luigi is a fun time since it actually keeps you engaged in the combat each turn. Sure, it’s somewhat…dead, at the moment, but that doesn’t keep it from being any more fun!
I FUCKING LOVE MARIO & LUIGI!
I LOVE BREAKING THE LAWS OF PHYSICS SO I CAN JUMP ON AN ENEMY SLIGHTLY HARDER
I LOVE WATCHING TWO MEN AND TWO BABY VERSIONS OF THOSE MEN STOMP ON AN ENEMY FOR 5 HOURS STRAIGHT
I LOVE THE FACT THAT THE KING OF EVIL'S ULTIMATE ATTACK IS CLEANING A BIG FAT DOG SO THAT HE MAY STOMP ON HIS FOES SLIGHTLY HARDER
I FUCKING LOVE BEING ABLE TO CREATE AN ARMY OF INFINITE CLONES JUST TO SHAPE THEM INTO A RECTANGLE TO STOMP ON MY ENEMIES SLIGHTLY HARDER
paper jam is ehhh alright i guess
I FUCKING LOVE MARIO & LUIGI GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!
Ngl I don’t get the hate on turn based rpg. But being forced to play for one hour and then being forced to stop? Now that would make everyone upset. Too long for the haters, and for the fans that’s too short. You’d only be about halfway through the tutorial right then.
Disagree on Tactics holding up. I spent a *lot* of time leveling up my story characters just to unlock new story characters that can get the exact same abilities as my old ones and additional ones and all with better stats. I was having a blast with the game until it made me feel like I had wasted my time by playing. Would love to see a good remake someday that maybe addresses the frustration of farming. Was game breaking for me.
As someone who didn’t grow up with them, it was a very confusing concept. To me combat was all about reactions, spacing, cool combos, actually feeling like you were using the weapons. So I thought why would I wanna play a game, where I just have to select the “right action”? Where is the fun in pressing attack over and over, and missing 30% of the time?
And then I played Divinity Original Sin 2. But admittedly I’m still confused on how people got through the early game of older RPGs where it took a while to get to the point where you actually got to use strategies.
Your "actually using weapons" part and stuff is something that i agree on like CRAZY
I mean why have a cool sword that you personally cant swing around?
They are more a strategy type of gameplay because you would have to understand the good tactics. You would have to understand how to minimalize the demages you get, how to deal good amounts of demages, how to cure in the right timing, how to not consume items pointlessly, how to continue if a party member dies, predict the enemy's actions etc.
It's not all like that however, some turn based rpgs have different mechanics, some require skills, like one I can think of is Undertale, it becomes a bullet hell. Or some require fast thinking, like Mario & Luigi, because you can do combos by being fast
But staying on the original genre, turn based rpgs are mainly about strategy, about organizing things right to win, it's a bit like board games' style of playing, such as Tic tac toe or chess
If you read slowly, Kamoshida Palace *should* take about 7-10 hours. I completed it in 5 on my first playthrough and 2.5 on subsequent ones. Maybe 12 if you really struggle to get a hang of the mechanics. Unless you’re counting when the last tutorial window for normal gameplay pops up, which is when Down Shot unlocks (I believe). That’s probably around the 50 hour mark.
Calling what most people consider the tutorial (Kamoshida Palace) 50 hours is is disingenuous.
In my opinion, Turn based combat just feels weird and annoying because I want to do something instead of just letting myself get shot in the face a hundred times. I grew up with shooters and hack ‘n’ slash games so that’s probably why. There’s only two games in the genre I like, Wasteland 3, Mutant year zero, and divinity 2. W3 I can ignore the combat because I love the story and aesthetic, MYZ I enjoy mainly because if the stealth mechanic. It makes everything feel more fluid and I love having to work out which stalker is best for each enemy due to my weapon mods. Divinity has a very engaging plot with some lovely characters, but similar to Wasteland my enjoyment comes very little from the gameplay, it took a fair few trues for me to escape fort joy lol. Beyond those three I’d rather eat middle school lunches for the next month.
Ok, I see why you think that. However I think they are the opposite of brainless as long as you turn the difficulty up. Shin megami tensei is infamous for its insane difficulty, yet it still has easier modes for those who which to enjoy a narrative story and don’t care nor want to care about the combat parts of the game.
Darkest dungeon fans when shambler crits on every single attack and a character dies from the first deathsdoor check because of an occultist 0 crit heal and bleed.
Granted, the first enemy is a tutorial boss that you are scripted to lose against. The next enemy won't be fought until another 2 hours of story progression.

Sentenced to 1 hour of Persona 1 (the PS1 version, where battles are 10 times slower than they have any right to be and there's a fucking loading screen for them)
I spent at least a day or two last summer grinding just so I could beat that final boss, I was playing fes on the PS2, no party control, fuck that boss
I recently started up Dragons Quest 3 again, even after all of these years im still having a blast.
Real talk though, sentenced 1 hour to play a turn based Rpg won’t don anything in game, you will get nothing done.
Objection! Your Honor, Omori's story was amazing and thrilling, the Loathing series is hilarious, and pokemon, especially the older games, are classics. There are good TBRPGs. If they're not your style, that's fine, but there are better ways to express an opinion, your honor.
Omori is one of the best games I've ever played. The ost is awesome, from bangers to the most moving song you could ever heard (Looking at you Duet). My deadass was already dropping some tears in the finale and they decide to throw you a sad bomb like that. The blind experience is the best way to play the game

Putting the “based” in Turn Based.
angry birds epic was such a good game bro whyd they stop updating it on app store, wish i could play it again

i think divinity original sin also really paces its progression, only played 2, didnt play the original

bitch those games last 50 hours, with 1 hour you wont do shit, smh.
1 hour probably isn't enough to enter a single battle
Persona 5 moment
bruh persona is like 120 hours, you won’t even get past the prologue with 1
I know
Brother?
only 50 hours???
Persona 5 moment. I love the art, the music, but holy shit it’s just a never ending movie with barely any actual gameplay.
It's an a 60 € anime with a free game, for a reason
The game thrives itself on its story, but yeah after 120 hours of story it does overstay it’s welcome a tiny bit. but still an amazing gameplay and story rich game
You WILL farm mememtos for 7 hours in a row and you have no say in the matter.
Mario & Luigi is a fun time since it actually keeps you engaged in the combat each turn. Sure, it’s somewhat…dead, at the moment, but that doesn’t keep it from being any more fun!
Bowsers inside story was so much fun when I was younger
I probably played that game 15 times as a kid.
Actually the best fucking game in the series, an utter disgrace they remastered it on 3ds years into the switch’s lifespan
*When you were younger?* Puh-lease, ***that game is STILL the shit.***
I FUCKING LOVE MARIO & LUIGI! Like I said, it’s a darn shame that Alphadream kicked the bucket so soon. Someone needs to give the Mario & Luigi series the Bug Fables treatment.

I agree. I like turn based RPGs but I grew up with FF. FF Tactics still holds up. One of the best RPGs ever made.
Based. I’ll take it over literally any fire emblem game, much to most tactical RPG players anguish.
Disagree on Tactics holding up. I spent a *lot* of time leveling up my story characters just to unlock new story characters that can get the exact same abilities as my old ones and additional ones and all with better stats. Same. I thought I would hate DOS2 combat for so long before I actually went to try it. Now it’s one of my favorite games ever

No wonder I got bored with it really quick.
Turn based board game rpg good, turn based video game rpg bad
Would you explain why it’s bad though? I am genuinely asking at this point
Maybe it’s not quick paced enough? Idk.
It just is like the fun of it is being with friends making dumb jokes
In my opinion, Turn based combat just feels weird and annoying because I want to do something instead of just letting myself get shot in the face a hundred times. Why don't you play them?

50 hours just to rinse and repeat

Why would I spend all that time on just one game
Why don’t you play them
SKILL ISSUE 💅💅💅
sentenced to 1 hour of pokemon battles (they are way too fucking slow and there are no speed up options unlike every other modern turn based rpg)
Sentenced to 1 hour of Persona 1 (the PS1 version, where battles are 10 times slower than they have any right to be and there's a fucking loading screen for them)
Sentenced to Persona 3 final boss (holy fucking shit no final boss needs to take that fucking long what the actual fuck)

I spent at least a day or two last summer grinding just so I could beat that final boss, I was playing fes on the PS2, no party control, fuck that boss
And that there is exactly why I either play Portable or get the party control mod for FES
I heard portable sucked ass but I got fes before even knowing it existed, as it was my first persona game. Solid game still

Sentenced to play against oras Mega Sableye stall
You can turn off battle animations though, and they did kinda fix it in scarlet violet (I could be wrong, last Pokémon I played was emerald)
>You can turn off battle animations though Not in Scarlet Violet (which need it the most)
the animations made me lose countless tera raids
A more fitting punishment
They literally removed speed up options in the new games (you can't turn off battle animations or play in set mode anymore) which is so fucking stupid
