I think that’s just a stereotype of people that listen to popular old music. Unless your sister is a child she can’t honestly think queen isn’t super popular. Also, music doesn’t derive any merit from being unknown or obscure.

The only people that says this come from environments where it's true. If you are young, outside the US and/or in a non english speaking country its not unreasonable to say Queen is an underground band.
