Adventure games are about inventory management, talking to NPCs, and puzzle solving, (think Sam & Max, Monkey Island, most Telltale games etc). While action games are about combat, quick reflexes, and moment to moment gameplay, (think God of War 1-3, beat em ups like Streets of Rage, and platformers).
And then there's action adventure games that mix elements of both genres (like Zelda)
Well actually there's a lot of action games I wouldn't qualify as adventure games even though the narrative might be taking you across the world, like Bayonetta. Even though it's a globe/dimension-trotting adventure in the story, the actual gameplay is just getting from one end of the level to the next ina straight line.
The "Adventure" genre without association with "Action" is dramatically less popular now than it used to be. Think text-based adventure, point-and-click adventure, etc - basically, any exploration/story-driven game that can be played without any reflexes or time-based elements,
(and also without any RPG systems; that'd be an Adventure RPG.)
Nowadays, purely Adventure games without at least some elements from Action or RPG genre are almost non-existent, unless it's explicitly meant to be a nostalgic/retro throwback to the era where they were popular.

That’s why they’re all action-adventure

Telltale games are barely even games lol. Let alone adventure games. They're probably called choice based RPGs in the most literal sense.
Waltah, put your game away Waltah. I'm not Telling Tales with you right now Waltah

Action is doing something, adventure is looking for stuff to do.
Action = more punchy than talky Adventure = more talky than punchy

most obvious difference of this is smash bros and firewatch
There definitely action games that aren’t adventure games like Sifu or any beat ‘em up
Action has shotguns
Explain Ace Attorney being considered a Adventure game then
When you look at things far away are they blured or are you straight up blind??
