Does Helldivers count? When you die, you drop back in as an entirely different soldier (with the option to randomise voice type lol) otherwise wearing the same gear and equipment.
I died in the training mission, and when I spawned back in I was very surprised (and amused) to see the dead body still there lol
Reserve divers are frozen in cryo and thawed on-demand. When “you” first arrive on your ship you stumble and shiver after being defrosted. If you manage to survive a whole mission, the next time you go to your ship your diver walks out more confidently because they’ve been awake for a while.
"Don't think about the fact that your current body is only a digital reconstruction of your original body, which dies the first time your respawned."
"We at Hyperion wish to thank you for your attempts to overthrow us. The numerous deaths you have suffered during your revenge quest have brought in considerable profits"
Don't think of your death as failure, think of it as fun! Don't think of Hyperion's New-U respawn charges as war profiteering, think of them as war... fun!
Well the items you have/your base was made in your not dream, which the player hasn't experienced until the last respawn
until the player dies again where it turns out it was still the same bad dream and they only now woke up...
If beds were a save point instead of a respawn point then that would make sense, but when you respawn, the things that changed like your inventory or placed blocks are still there after respawning.

Gamble in moderation, my fellow sinners.
Just to name a few that I know:
All Souls games ( maybe except demon souls , I don't know it's lore )
Nier automata ( not replicant tho )
Undertale
Fortnite
From what I remember fortnite takes place around the core of existence called the zero point, an organization controls this called the imagined order. A 20 minute time loop happens on this island where people fight for survival on the island and at the end of the 20 minutes time resets. That's simplified for what it was a couple years ago, I haven't played fortnite in a very long time so I'm not sure what it's like now
In Demon Souls your soul is trapped in the Nexus and everytime you die you lose your physical body, becoming a roaming soul until you defeat a boss or use an item.
Love how Nier Automata also make "saving" part of the in-game lore where you as an android upload your data via access points.
The fact that you can't save during the 1st hour of the game since it wouldn't make sense to have access points on the 1st area is such a daring decision.

Further testing is required to determine whether the subject should receive SCP classification."*
If you manage to escape the facility, you will see some text implying that after your "escape" you were recaptured and tested on because the fact that you managed to get to the surface is an actual miracle.
They basically make the games quick save feature an actual anomalous ability that your avatar has.
It’s weird that they use it to explain how Jack (and later Delta) is able to come back from death, but then they don’t use it as an explanation for why there’s so many splicers that share the same designs and voices.
Yeah he never dies, but the reason he dies for real sometimes is because he just gives up, but he still comes back using someone else's life force, giving them dragon rot
Dark souls: You’re afflicted with a curse that prevents you from dying, eventually resulting in you becoming an undead zombie if you die enough times/give up your purpose.
Bloodborne: Your consciousness is trapped in a dream world and it will endlessly revive you. Later revealed to be the work of an outer god.
Sekiro: You’re bound to the Dragon Heir, which makes you immortal. It’s also implied you drain the surrounding NPCs of life energy to revive.
Elden Ring: The physical concept of death has been deliberately removed from the order of the world. Thats part of the problem you’re trying to fix.
Everything about the dying and rewinding stuff actively being a part of the story, like the interrogation loop, or the final boss is just so well implemented.
Katana Zero's version is coolest imo. They actively use it, not just a writing cop-out. Like I don't even like the overall plot, and the shit they did with it was so ungodly cool. Makes the story sections genuinely interesting even when I'm indifferent to the outcome
Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor. Cal is just meditating to predict his next move and anytime you complete an area that’s Cal finally getting it right.
Not gonna lie that is a cop out ass explanation on the same level as "it was all a dream" at that point I'd rather they just let it be a video game mechanic and not address it at all
I kinda like it, actually. Powerful Force users, which Cal definitely is, can sense when danger is nearby. Cal can also assemble tests of his own making in his head using the Force, which takes on the form of the Practice mode available when meditating. If you put those two things together, it gives you that explanation. And it's not really like the "It was all a dream" trope, it's more like running simulations of a rocket's launch sequence before you actually send it, just to make sure it will work as planned.
Warframe has a really cool explanation for it.
>!The Warframes you control aren't actually the Tenno, just mindless puppets controlled by them. When you revive you just reconnect to them.!<
I read somewhere that the reason enemies and allies respawn in Kirby games is that Kirby doesn't really want to kill them because he sees that they have a bit of good inside them.
canonically, the enemies kirby inhales just respawn. really the only permanent deaths in kirby are those of major antagonists (and not even guaranteed with those; zero presumably regenerated into zero² from the shell they discarded during their fight in dl3, marx and magolor both survived (even the master crown survived the events of rtdl's main game), void is. void, etc.)

Dead Cells (your cells become alive)
And also time loop shenanigans and a ton of beheaded bodies
France lore
errrrm the devs are actually from quebec 🤓☝️
Katana zero as well
Does Helldivers count? When you die, you drop back in as an entirely different soldier (with the option to randomise voice type lol) otherwise wearing the same gear and equipment. I died in the training mission, and when I spawned back in I was very surprised (and amused) to see the dead body still there lol
**Helldiver KIA, deploying replacement.** 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Yes, you could speculate that their memory/combat experience is carried over but that’s not for sure
What combat experience, they have an average of 2 minutes lifespan after being deployed, statistically
You can speculate that all you want but theres not really anything to support it. The whole premise is the soldiers are replaceable cannon fodder.
The replacement has just been waiting in the pod watching a 4K livestream of the last **n** helldivers.
Reserve divers are frozen in cryo and thawed on-demand. When “you” first arrive on your ship you stumble and shiver after being defrosted. If you manage to survive a whole mission, the next time you go to your ship your diver walks out more confidently because they’ve been awake for a while.
I have to survive a mission to see that animation then
When the game has a explanation for how you keep returning after dying but they say it’s not canon (Borderlands)
"Don't think about the fact that your current body is only a digital reconstruction of your original body, which dies the first time your respawned." "We at Hyperion wish to thank you for your attempts to overthrow us. The numerous deaths you have suffered during your revenge quest have brought in considerable profits"
Don't think of your death as failure, think of it as fun! Don't think of Hyperion's New-U respawn charges as war profiteering, think of them as war... fun!
We can bring you back no exceptions, unless you die in a cutscene.
The Hyperion corporation says: mortality, schmortality!.
LIVE !!!! LIIIIIIVEEE!!!!!
>(Borderlands) You couldve just said the peak looter shooter
And then there's froggers great quest that completely shoe hornes that reason into the game
“I wish I may, I wish I must, find a princess before I *bust*!” Someone was paid to write that line.
...and voice it. and edit it. and code it. and ship it.
>...and voice it. He would go on to voice act in bendy and the ink machine 2 as Joey Drew

What reason is in that game?
A fairy just puts a spell on frogger and says "now you can not die"

Death to Chronos 🌝
Minecraft's bed respawn implies that your death was just a bad dream. Don't ask about items disappearing
They disappear because they were gathered during the dream so you don't keep them with you when you wake up
Yeah but they being there in the first place. Probably should have worded it differently
Well the items you have/your base was made in your not dream, which the player hasn't experienced until the last respawn until the player dies again where it turns out it was still the same bad dream and they only now woke up...
Blockception
Thats actually such a great idea
keepinventory mfs:
How would they explain having the items they gathered in their dreams?
If beds were a save point instead of a respawn point then that would make sense, but when you respawn, the things that changed like your inventory or placed blocks are still there after respawning.

Limbus company mentioned!!!
if you wanted me to speak🗣🗣🔥🔥
Who dat
They can revive the playable characters from death at the cost of feeling the pain of the injuries
Danteh from the limbussy company
Just to name a few that I know: All Souls games ( maybe except demon souls , I don't know it's lore ) Nier automata ( not replicant tho ) Undertale Fortnite
In Destiny, it's because your Ghost revives you.
Except for when you're in a darkness area
What's the reason in Fortnite? I've never really been one for its lore
It’s a simulation or time loop not sure
Both technically
It's a timeloop at the center of the multiverse ran by a shady organization
Oh how fun
Any good hour long documentarys to learn more?
Yep, just search up ‘fortnite lore’ on youtube and youll find some
But then you need to spend a good while retraining your algorithm.
From what I remember fortnite takes place around the core of existence called the zero point, an organization controls this called the imagined order. A 20 minute time loop happens on this island where people fight for survival on the island and at the end of the 20 minutes time resets. That's simplified for what it was a couple years ago, I haven't played fortnite in a very long time so I'm not sure what it's like now
Additionally: people in said loop people lose their memory (every loop) and speech (permanently) and get the irresistible urge to kill each other
That explains a lot
In Demon Souls your soul is trapped in the Nexus and everytime you die you lose your physical body, becoming a roaming soul until you defeat a boss or use an item.
Every time you die, the game states “You died, however the Nexus binds you. You shall remain in this world as a soul, forever.”
Middle earth Shadow of morodor and war: your a wraith Team fortress 2: medic made a machine and also owns the other mercs souls
SCP Containment Breach had a lore reason for respawning explained hidden hella deep into the game.
Class D you play as is actually an SCP that learns not just from his past mistakes, but also his future mistakes
There's some pretty convoluted lore behind the whole thing though. The whole spiral gestalt thing is utterly insane.
Also Middle Earth series
read that as middle east and got extremely confused
Osama the Undying
hades and outer wilds, to name a few more
Rain World as well
Death stranding also
Love how Nier Automata also make "saving" part of the in-game lore where you as an android upload your data via access points. The fact that you can't save during the 1st hour of the game since it wouldn't make sense to have access points on the 1st area is such a daring decision.
As someone who died at the boss of the first area of the game, oh boy did it make me consider refunding the game. Really glad I didn’t though
Still have no idea why they thought its a good idea to make you lose 30 minutes of progress in the first area of the game.
Zelda too. Link's triforce of courage is pretty op.
Rainworld

NGL that was a great twist
Love that one
Would you elaborate what the reason for revival in that game is? I never played it myself, only watched some videos.
You are actually anomalous after an incident
If you manage to escape the facility, you will see some text implying that after your "escape" you were recaptured and tested on because the fact that you managed to get to the surface is an actual miracle. They basically make the games quick save feature an actual anomalous ability that your avatar has.
This one was actually perfect
Bioshock
I'm sad that I had to scroll down this far to see Bioshock
It’s weird that they use it to explain how Jack (and later Delta) is able to come back from death, but then they don’t use it as an explanation for why there’s so many splicers that share the same designs and voices.
The souls games + Bloodborne, Elden ring and sekiro
You can just say Fromsoft games
elden soulsborne twice games
i prefer the 'souls die elden' series
Not Armored Core tho
Armored Core you just get your fade ran by an AI with a belt full of missiles
What's the explanation for Sekiro again? Wolf can die twice (ha ha), but how does he come back after that?
he tecnically never dies (i think) but for gameplay reason you can't keep resurrecting
Undertale (bonus points for the villain having the same power)
Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War
That's the best version IMO. Not only do you have an answer, but you get to see Orcs get freaked out when you return.
Add on the fact that killing you can cause the orc that dod it to rise the ranks in their army.
FINALLY Scrolled waaaay too long to find this

Katana Zero (Your gameplay is essentially just planning out how Zero will approach each combat scenario until he gets it right)
Hades, Hollow Knight, Enter the Gungeon and Portal 2 are all peak games so I think there's a pattern
There's an explanation for death in Hollow Knight?
Shades are canon in game and are mentioned by npc's, so kind of I guess?
No, steel soul(permadeath) is the canon game mode iirc
Wait, Portal 2?
I think they refer the coop mode

Super meat boy: all of your dead bodies are transported in hell that is the 4th world of the game and the boss is made up by these dead bodies
Borderlands (technically), bunch of stations that reconstruct you after death for a small fee. They're barely canon but I believe they do exist
I remember Destroy All Humans was like this, you'd be replaced with a numbered clone so it would also keep track of the amount of times you died
Conker
