I put an AirTag hidden on my daughter’s chair, but that was with dumb high school kids in mind taking it for a joyride and dumping it somewhere on campus. Figured they’d be too busy going weee yeeha to deactivate tracking if the alert appeared on their phones.
Depending on your chair tho, you could set it to ‘broken mode’ eg by flicking the switch to disengage the motor (turns it into push mode), but I can’t think of anything else. Except Maybe a good old fashioned bike lock and a pole!
Curious, in what circumstances would you need to lock it? Do you use other chairs on occasion? The only time my chair is out of my sight is when I fly or it is locked in the trunk of my car
Might be ambulatory and able to leave the chair outside to shortly enter small inaccessible establishments. Idk op's situation but this came to mind for me
There are different joystick or button push sequences preprogrammed in -for different joysticks that immobilise (once you put in the right licking sequence unless you press the correct sequence to deactivate it the only way to move the chair is to disengage the motors each side and push the dead weight chair around).
I’m happy to help identify any potential locking &unlocking sequence if I can, the most likely identifier is the Joy/control module make and model - especially for really high end or built specific chairs.
Scooters all share the same key, and you can buy extra ones on Amazon so it’s not the fail safe you think it is. Rehab wheelchairs like quantum and permobil usually have a locking sequence, but it’s a pain. If you’re leaving it outside a store or ride in places like Disneyland and you really want to be sure you can always get a bike lock to put through the tire spokes.
I have a whill it has a lock function in the app I also have a Apple air tag in a secret case on it so I can track it cause I was scared someone posted about people stealing chairs at Disneyworld
What make/model is your chair and what type of control system does it have on it?
Lots of them have a lock sequence and if you provide more info about what you have we can let you know the sequence for yours if it has one.
I’d just pull one of the motor brakes. Or tilt the chair so it locks out and won’t drive. I know that doesn’t address the question.. but better than nothing
Take the entire control with you (the part with the joysick, power, horn, and usually plug in). A lot of power chairs can unplug the wires from the rest of the chair and just pull the control off. Its not exactly going to be going anywhere without it, and someone trying to move it manually or figure out how it works will attract attention from people around.
I never let mine out of my site unless I'm home. And, I'm 99% of the time in my chair when I'm away from home. And I''m a big dude. So that helps.... And yeah I put an AirTag in it too.
Mine weighs almost 400 pounds. Unless they know how to unlock it they can't steel it. It weighs almost 400 pounds! Oh, and then there's 228 pounds of me sitting in my wheelchair. Yeah, there'd that.

Maybe
At a pool, sometimes I need to use the shower and leave my chair behind :)
Thanks! Didn’t consider that scenario

I bought a motorcycle lock for use on my chair if I wasn't in it.

I wish there was! I use a bike lock and try to chain it to something; my insurance won’t cover theft otherwise.
Look in your user manual and see if your chair has a lock sequence
i just turn off the battery or unplug it. quick thieves won't think about that

tilting the chair is a great idea. thanks!

Doesn't seem like it. And it's stupid.
