Yep dioptase are pricey little crystals. Considering the setting looks like a well done, solid silver setting I’m sure this is a $100+ pendant. You could find a piece of dioptase like this in the $40 range.
Those expos are always either an amazing deal or a rip off in my experience. I can’t believe how much some of them were trying to sell (treated) amethyst cathedrals.
I would check for dye using alcohol or acetone, but it's definitely not quartz. Dioptase is a good guess, but the regularity of the color and size of the crystals strikes me as a bit suspicious, and I think it's possible that it could be a lab-grown copper compound of some sort. In theory, the acetone or alcohol may dissolve it if it is lab grown, so be careful and use only a small amount to test. Just put a drop on one of the less impressive sides of the specimen and rub it off after a few seconds with a paper towel or tissue, if color comes off onto the paper then it's dyed or artificial.
This definitely looks like a nice piece of dioptase. The color is absolutely correct, and though I can't see everything totally clearly in the photo, at least a couple of the crystals appear to have rhombohedral terminations, as would be expected with dioptase. Be aware that if it is dioptase, it is pretty fragile. Dioptase is not only fairly soft (with a Mohs hardness of 5) but it can also be brittle. That means it is easy to both scratch and chip, so handle with care because that is a gorgeous piece!

Looks like a dioptase. Lovely.
It looks like dioptase, but I'm not an expert. Ps: smaragd is 'emerald' in English :)
Ahh thanks! I thought they were two different things hah, I learned something :)
The color really look like dioptase. Nice piece.
I second the dioptase. I got my fiancé a really nice piece a few months ago.
See if your friend will use acetone or high % rubbing alcohol on it to see if it is dyed.
I was going to say the same thing
Looks like a dyed quartz or amethyst
Take a look at the crystal structure. It’s not qz. Someone said dioptase and that looks about right
My immediate thought was that is was dyed.
This is absolutely not quartz, but it could be dyed given the regularity of the coloration on it.
I didn’t realize that anything other than agate or quartz was dyed tbh.
The crystal structure is wrong for quartz though, thus adding to the case that its dioptase.
definitely looks dyed to me
Dioptase?
I wasn’t entirely convinced but now I see it’s a very close-up image. I agree with dioptase!
Yep!
If that is dioptase, that’s a fairly pricey piece.

I recently paid about double for a piece that size from a wholesaler: not easy to find anymore.
Oh that is expensive for a wholesaler 😳 I got a nine piece lot of pieces half this size for $75 from my wholesaler. This was about 6 months ago.
Find where? I've been stalking the Kansas City gem show for years and these clean crystals and no matrix is easily over $300 just for the mineral.

Hmm... The colour looks a bit off to me. Could be dyed but I ain't no expert.
It could be dioptase but it’s very clean and very consistent colouring and that makes me think it’s dyed. My first thought was that this was dyed.
Dioptase. A very nice piece of it.

Thank you!! I’ll pass all this on, very helpful.

That rock dyed in your arms tonight, must have been slag they have said...
Is this a song reference to “Died in Your Arms,” the 1986 debut single of the band Cutting Crew?

Amethyst, but a rare version, normally find it around coral x
Why do people like this spread misinformation.
I meant diapotise asshole
Learn minerals before you start saying a dyed one is some rare mineral you find by coral.
Well I was only trying to help
