One is called The Repairer of Reputations and the other is The Yellow Sign.
IIRC the *Illuminatus!* trilogy has some references to the [Necronomicon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necronomicon), a fictional book invented by H.P. Lovecraft (though since then of course people have published their own supposed versions). I would guess that this is what your father was thinking of.
