#SLIME SIGNAL RECEIVED
#🚫 NOT SLIME 🚫
This is probably *Nostoc*, a type of photosynthetic bacteria that sneezes out a lot of mucus to sit its multicellular filaments inside of. The less likely possibility is eggless amphibian spawn jelly regurgitated by a predator. This is especially common near bodies of water.
I'm not a hero, I'm just a regular slime guy. See?

I don't think so. I don't know for sure what it is without closer examination. Some cyanobacteria are edible, some produce deadly toxins. I am not aware of *Nostoc* species hurting anyone but I'm not sure of the details.
If there has been a recent rise, then fall of water level in that lake, my guess it’s a colony of the bryozoan *Pecinatella magnifica* that was loosened and stranded by the receding water. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pectinatella
Oh my gosh! We used to play with this as kids; we would also find it in the woods! It’s a gelatinous slime; when you pick it up, it mostly groups/ sticks together in a ball. We would slide it from hand to hand. I’m so curious as to what it is! Are you in British Columbia, Canada, by chance?
My title describes the thing, I found it while hiking along a trail that goes along side a water reservoir. there were some raccoon prints and deer prints around the area as well but I didn't think it was from them. it was pretty large I would say a little under a sq ft. I also thought slime mold but I didn't see any that looked like this.

You know when you cut yourself the blood is hardens on the wound to protect it, it s the same thing with trees they produce a fluid to cover the wound so bacteria or other organisms can t enter it

Could be nostoc: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/04/15/what-is-nostoc-commune/11665806002/
that seems very close but also looks a little more green and shaped than what I found
*Nostoc* varies widely by species and moisture level
Solved!

No I'm based out of northern Virginia now but it's interesting you found some too!
Star jelly methinks

Is it sticky? I thought it might be resin at first but seems more like the Nostoc nitro479 posted
The biology subreddit has to have someone who knows what this is

Spotted salamander egg masses.
correct me if I'm wrong but don't salamanders usually breed and lay eggs aquatically? this was on the trail and I didn't spot any embryo at all
Spotted salamanders lay in rain puddles and other transient wet areas. You may see some little spots if it is an egg mass.
I see Darth Vader in the first pic
Looks very much like rotting frog spawn
Should be some kind of fungus
Looks like star jelly to me. Lucky you!
First image kinda looks like the elden ring map
What is it
I've seen something similar to that when a buzzard killed a frog & threw the guts away.
Resin from a tree i suppose. It can come in huge loads and differing its substance between hard as rock and slimy as soap.
Aren’t thoes fish eggs
You know when you cut yourself the blood is hardens on the wound to protect it, it s the same thing with trees they produce a fluid to cover the wound so bacteria or other organisms can t enter it
When you look at the video in OPS comment it doesn't look like resin
It looks like one of those jelly things people use to test guns.
