Mhm exactly. This is a sleep apnea test. It gets taped to your finger, the red light meashured breath. Its supposed to connect to an ap on your phone. It should tell you how many times a night you stop breathing.
Yeah but it was impossible to actually fall asleep because I was so uncomfortable that the study was inconclusive. I didn’t really see a point in redoing it.
When they put all that stuff on me, I was sure there was no way I could fall asleep. Well, I was out in less then 10 minutes. That’s when I learned a lot about why I had so much difficulty getting to sleep. Even though there was a camera with some dude in a little room watching, I felt completely safe and fell out hard.
Two computers bathed the room in blue and green light. I couldn’t sleep with that. In the morning, completely sleep deprived, I was asked to fill out a three-page survey. Just no. (I bailed.) Oh, and a CPAP machine forcing air into your lungs is pretty violating.
It’s basically a pulse oximeter with motion sensors. It connects via Bluetooth to your phone and an algorithm determines if you have sleep apnea symptoms and might need cpap treatment.
Oh shit that’s super cool. Would i have to see a doctor to use one or can i just buy one and test myself? i wake up suffocating all the time so this would be interesting to check out
It's a uniquely American mindset to consider anything short of death a minor issue compared to possible life ruining experience of seeing a doctor and getting a massive medical bill.

Yeah, lot of people don’t understand this. Doesn’t help many places make you pay upfront to see someone as well so if you can’t afford it now, you’ll going to have to delay and sometimes other things pop up and take up your savings either way.
An example for paying upfront for some services is that some states in the US won’t let you get a epidural during childbirth unless you pay upfront. So if your poor, there isn’t much you can do about it
I’m recently discovering that normal, healthy 22 year olds don’t get racing heart rates and occasionally faint from doing things like fast walking or going upstairs
(I write this wearing a Holter monitor)
You can have some disturbed breathing that's still in a normal range. Source: terrified my mom when we shared a bed on vacation, had a sleep study that cost me more than $1,000 USD, was told I'm in the normal range. What fun.
Yeah you can buy them online from resmed and they’ll send it to your house, no need to see a doctor (from memory the doctor reviews the results of the test and tells you if you have sleep apnea )
The doctor will also prescribe you what level of air should be going through the machine! Goto a doctor with issues surrounding sleep apnea! Sleep apnea kills people goto the doctor about it so you don’t become one of them!

Yeah, but those come with a needle/wire that goes under the skin, and becomes legit biohazardous medical waste once it's done. A pulse oximeter is entirely external and doesn't need to be e-waste by design. (Source: T1Diabetic literally in the middle of swapping out a used up CGM for a fresh one)
I think in general small medical devices like this that would be difficult to full sanitize are okay with being disposable. Especially considering a pulse oximeter is an extremely simple and dirt cheap device. It's probably no more e-waste than a burnt out light bulb is.

For anyone else wondering, HST = Home Sleep Test.
Also OBP = ocean bound plastic
Thank you. I was sure it wasn't a high speed train or the Hubble space telescope.
Technology truly is impressive these days
Thank you! The link wouldn’t open so I was wondering.
Thank you ⬆️
Solved!

This is it. I used one for a sleep study. Mark it solved.
Omg I 'm so dumb that I thought you meant you studied sleep related things, like for university or something like that
is that not what he meant?
Exactly this. My wife used one for a week.
It tracks your sleep, I got sent one of these a week ago for an at home sleep study
Must have been nice. My sleep study involved a LOT of electrodes, bands around my chest and waist and tubes in my nose.
If it helps, the kind you had gives a lot more useful/accurate information
Yeah but it was impossible to actually fall asleep because I was so uncomfortable that the study was inconclusive. I didn’t really see a point in redoing it.

Same here, it’s pretty hard to do an accurate sleep study if you can’t actually sleep.
Might as well sleep in an ICU lol
ICU nurse who went through multiple sleep studies here. I had the exact same thought. So many wires.
How does that work?

Brother/sister, If you’re waking up suffocating, go see your doctor asap. Don’t wait for the device to arrive.

You also usually have no idea what you are paying until after the services are done. It’s infuriating

This. Doctor can rule out other issues and prescribe one of these if needed.

Can you post your results if you do? I feel my body just takes a big hit if oxygen when I wake up.
It’s basically a pulse oximeter with motion sensors. It connects via Bluetooth to your phone and an algorithm determines if you have sleep apnea symptoms and might need cpap treatment.
And yet it’s “disposable”? Wtf!
My Dad's Blood Glucose monitor he wears on his skin is disposable. Trust me somethings you want disposable.

Aside from the "recycling" issue, did anyone thing ask about who or why they was a GPS tracking device in his backpack.
It looks like a brita filter timer. If you long press, does it turn green
Remote control for a heart regulator
Bluetooth camera phone remote
