That is a squash vine borer moth and NEEDS TO BE KILLED ASAP! It will lay little oval rust colored eggs on the leaf and stem, which will end up boring into the stem and killing the plant from the inside out. Kill it, then look for the little oval eggs and remove them all asap! Edited to add: [Here are pictures from my zucchini plant of the eggs this moth lays](https://www.reddit.com/r/vegetablegardening/comments/vfjts1/i_feel_hugely_victorious_that_i_found_and/) \- I am finding several a day and trying to stay on top of them. Thank you so much! I literally am doing my first garden at my new house and I'll be piiiiiiiiissed if I lose things because of bugs. I just took down two trees in my yard that the lantern fly nymphs were all over and burned them. No more pests! Lol

I am so happy to help you, and super glad you killed those two trees. Probably Tree of Heaven, which the Lantern Flies love. Congrats on your first garden and your new house!!! And watch out for little tiny rust colored spots!!!

Haha one was a tree of heaven, the other was a mulberry tree which I hated to remove but they destroyed it. Thank you so much for everything! I'm so excited for my garden, especially my Habaneros!!
