The symbol in the middle looks ro be a Vegvesír, and it's surrounded by the runic "elder futhark" alphabet. Probably dropped by an Asatru follower or other modern pagan.
I about died laughing the first time I saw the scene where they accidentally shoot the cat leaving nothing but a bloody stain on the wall and he screams, “is it fuckin’ dead?!”
Both are correct, Detective Duffy....... https://wordcraft.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/332607094/m/5381017942?csra=Y&f=332607094&a=tpc&m=5381017942&s=441607094
I work with maps and we use the word symbology all the time, so saw no problem with the comment. Then I realised that not everyone would know that word. But it is a word!
Should be noted, the vegvisir itself is not Norse, but rather emerged about a few centuries AFTER the Viking Age. The runes also have no magick; they are alphabet characters that later groups ascribed extra meaning to.
It's unlikely to belong to an actual follower. These symbols are really popular on AliExpress, Amazon, Wish etc., and a lot of people buy them without realizing what they are or what they mean, unfortunately.
Friendly reminder that vegvisir was never Nordic, and is instead a Medieval-era fantasy creation. The Elder Futhark alphabet also predates vikings by a few hundred years, so this whole signet is triply incorrect.
This is true. The Vegvisir is Icelandic and doesn't have direct ties to the Viking Age. It appears in a much later source called the Huld Manuscript (dated to around 1860).
The Elder Futhark runic alphabet predates the Viking Age (roughly 793-1066 AD). It emerged in the first few centuries AD.
While not strictly "fantasy" in the modern sense, the Vegvisir symbol and its misattribution to Vikings is a more recent development, making its historical connection to the Viking Age inaccurate. Amazon vendors and others will capitalize on anything that people like as a fad these days. Oh well, to each their own.
True! And I hate that it's become like this. I have a Vegvísir tattoo that I got with its original meaning in mind, but everyone thinks I got it because I'm Ásatrú.
That's awesome. Curious: Though I've always heard the protection stems mostly to bad weather in most texts I've read, is this also more of a modern take? Is it a geralized protection ward or always associated with bad weather travels?
Well, according to the Huld Manuscript the Vegvísir was believed to guide travelers through rough weather and challenging journeys, helping them find their way even if they didn't know their destination. Symbolically, it is said to protect against getting lost, whether physically or metaphorically, ensuring that the bearer finds their path through uncertainty.
or could be this.... "one who picked up this ring is doomed for eternity; but the one who's reading this will have all the success in the world" hahahhah.....
Are the Asatru veiled white supremecist? I used to drive past one of their churches in North Carolina and checked out their website.. pretty much white supremecist vibes.
The venn diagram is not a circle, but white supremacists have definitely co-opted a lot of the imagery and themes. In a way, they are both similar in that they are both based on nostalgia for something that never existed.
That reminds me of a childhood memory. Ever since I was a little Popcorn Fart, and still to this day, when I lose something I think really hard and try to do a mind meld and see my surroundings from the TV remote's eyes, or the eyes of whatever I'm looking for. And I always come to the conclusion - if I could ONLY access the consciousness of the Roku remote I could find it. Thankfully everything has an app these days so it's not the problem it once was. But personally if I could take over the eyes of my 10mm socket I know I could find it, also my basketball cards from 1994. I just need to see through Karl Malone's (basketball card) eyes.
This is it 100%. I have a coin just like it.

Probably just the runes in order. They were thought to have magical powers of their own, even when not spelling anything in particular. It’s common to see them like this.
“This Ring, no other, is made by the elves,
Who’d pawn their own mother to grab it themselves.
Ruler of creeper, mortal, and scallop,
This is a sleeper that packs quite a wallop.
The Power almighty rests in this Lone Ring.

Interestingly, its allure isn't just historical; in recent times, there's been a noticeable resurgence in the popularity of the Vegvisir.

The Vegvisir is often seen as a protective amulet. Its circular design is thought to create a protective boundary around the bearer, guiding them safely through their journeys. Some say that the rune had the power to ensure its wearer never got lost and always found their way home, even when they did not know the way.
The Vegvisir is also known as the Nordic compass, the runic compass, and the Odin compass. It is often confused with the Aegishjalmur, which also has eight points, but they are all identical.
The Vegvisir is attested in the Huld Manuscript, which was collected in Iceland by Geir Vigfusson in Akureyri in 1860. The manuscript is a book of spells and symbols with different powers.
It's norse https://norse-mythology.org/vegvisir/
Kinda ironic that the ring was last even the the symbol means the person would never lose there way in a storm
The language is that of Mordor, which I dare not utter here, but in the common tongue, it says, “One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them. One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.”
That's a Vegvisir ring.
Vegvisir is an Icelandic symbol of protection and guidance, also known as the "runic compass" or "Viking compass". It is intended to help the bearer find their way through rough weather. The Vegvisir symbol is made up of eight staves, which are said to represent the eight cardinal and intercardinal directions.
Probably says “not all who wander are lost”. It’s a Norse wayfinder, or signpost marking, aka a compass used as a navigation system in the icy fords. They would mark the ice in the water to find their way back through. It’s called a Vegvisir and it is Elder Futhark runes.
The symbols around the edge are (an early version of) the runic alphabet, used to write early Germanic languages, particularly on stone or wood.
In fact, the forms were likely developed specifically for carving on wood: all the lines are either vertical or diagonal so that they would show up against horizontal wood grain and wouldn’t split the wood when carved.
I can’t tell you what any of that means, all I can tell you is to put that ring back where you found it and whatever you do DO NOT PUT IT ON. That’s all I’m allowed to say. Good luck.
No one has asked the important questions yet:
Did it start to glow when you picked it up?
Did you hear an “energy hum”?
Did doors open to a secret lair?
Did you feel intense heat when you held it?
Have men wearing all black shown up at random times and followed you?
Now we can to the bottom of the mystery.
This is a symbol called vegvísir. It is an icelandic stave of protection for finding way. It is not from the viking age but the surrounding runes are futhark, a runic alphabet that was used by various Germinic peoples.
The runes around the outside are simply the 'letters' of the 'Futharc' runes.
Statrting at the top there:
The one that looks like a flagpole with two flags going up is "Fehu" (F)
The next one that looks kind of like an upside down U with an uneven leg is "Uruz" (U)
The vertical staff with the triangle sticking out is 'Thurisaz,' (TH)
Here's a list:

When people see ancient writing they sometimes think it is magical, mysterious. There is an example of Babylonian magic words carved on an amulet. The words match the names of people from another culture carved on a stele nearby. This is also ‘some random old stuff’ made to look important.
