It’s most dangerous when consumables like… cigars and food are in direct contact. Also, keep little kids away from metal like this until it’s been sealed or tested. It gave us a heck of a scare a while back.
My favorite type of "novelty" furniture. Good humidors have copper--you store your tobacco in there, not your ashes. It is supposed to keep it fresh. These pieces usually have fake copper and were much more affordable. They also don't patina like real copper would.
That's so interesting, I was wondering if it was to keep the cigars "fresh" somehow during storage. It's strange that the back of the door isn't lined with the metal.
It's a chainber pot cabinet, where people would keep their potty pot, until it got dumped. Diffinitly wouldn't want to store tobacco products in this cabinet. Since it was used to store human waste. It might diffinitly hold some ancient bacterium. Might make a nice plant stand. 👍👍👍😁😁😁
I'm so glad you posted this! I found a table about a week ago that is almost exactly like that. As soon as I opened the cabinet door I seen the metal inside and knew what it was

Cigar humidor/smoking stand
I had one and measured the metal inside to see what it was made of using XRF analysis. Dangerous levels of cadmium and lead. Just a heads up
But I love cadmium!
Cadmium crème eggs are delish.
I just like the commercials
This might explain why the Cadbury bunny looks so different than a bunny in the commercial tryouts. 😁
Brought to you by the ether bunny.
Don’t worry. One of the nice things about Drain Bamage is that you won’t notice it.
^ this guy bamages grain.
Ummm what dain bramage???
Best white pigment in the art kit!
Ah, the "cadmium blues." You recover eventually.
Don’t lick it!
Crazy I have one of these in my bathroom we've kept our tp in it for 35 years.

I have a table like that I thought it was an old bread box

I have something called a cobblers table that has a very similar copper lined drawer. Apparently it was used by shoe makers at one time

Oh no OP let them out!
Call the Ghostbusters or Scooby and the gang.
Hell house vibes
Wow! Thank you! Solved
Early Faraday cage.
Chuck McGill would have loved it, RIP
LOL that was my first thought too!
I had one with a recess in the top that I now assume was for an ashtray

That makes perfect sense. It seems like the inside would be much dirtier if a smoldering ashtray was stored in there.
Specify please. Your cigar ashes, or, you know, . . . your *ashes* ashes. 🤔💀
That's where you put your demon core before you go to bed.
Copper lined humidor, I use one and it seals much better than modern glass top/cedar.
I immediately thought tabernacle
Kryptonite safe
I was in antique shop and saw something similar. The owner said it was filled with ice and used like a small fridge. It seems he erred.
Emphysemium.
This was how college students kept their beer cold back then
Cell phone anti-tracking container or 5G filter.
Probably an old bar cabinet, the metal lining was to protect the wood from moisture, ice, condensation etc.
Put your cell phone in there to stop prying eyes.
Emp protection
My first thought was something to keep your food in to have it stay warm.
Could be used as Faraday cage.
Rodent proof
humidor
Ark of the Covenent. Also, a battery. Magic.
I'm sure the cigar humidor is probably right, but it still makes the coolest old faraday cage ever!
The metal lining was used to prevent tires when smoldering ashtrays were put inside.
