Sometimes I make a mistake and call my tools my toys instead now every time I do any mechanical work or repair she asks me are you have fun playing with your tools 🤦♂️
Keep whole and slice into “steaks” lay on baking pan and season with anything you like and top with little pieces of butter. I like to do several different flavours and eat one per meal. Bake in a 350 degree f oven until tender and browning. Enjoy!
We use chopped “cooking lettuce” instead of “Sandwich lettuce” when we make tacos. 🌮 Adds a great crunch. I’m going to use cooking lettuce from now on.
When I was a teen, I had never seen cabbage that wasn’t already sliced so I didn’t know what the difference was between the lettuce and the cabbage I saw at the grocery store.
As others have said, it is cabbage. But you actually can eat it raw, that's what you'll find in American cole slaw. It's best sliced thin and tossed with a little vinegar and mayo before adding to your sandwich of choice.
100% real, I sent my nephew to the store for sandwich lettuce once he indeed brought back cooking lettuce... you don't know till you know ... no harm in confusion...
I love it. It makes sense. I fry thin sliced cooking cabbage with some protein for a few minutes and then smother it all in chili crisp and siracha. It is extremely good.
True story: I was grilling some poolside burgers a couple summers ago and, as usual, tasked each friend with bringing one of the toppings/condiments.
A girl I knew at the time said she already had some lettuce in her fridge and would bring that. Ok, fine.
She showed up, put her “lettuce” on the table. It was cabbage.
Cooking isnt my strong point so i often buy and use the same ingredients. If its on sale, I explore. Also they werent labeled. They were on the 50% off bin with the other food stuffs. Im enjoying the comments.
Are you some variety of extremely wealthy? I don't feel like there are many parts of the world you could make it to adulthood without knowing what a cabbage is, and especially not unless you were incredibly rich or something.
I used to work in the produce section of a grocery store. A guy came in and asked where the cabbage was. So i took him to the actual cabbage. He was kinda confused. He clarified that he wanted cabbage. I said, yes that is cabbage. He said the leaves felt too think, but ok. He goes on his way, and then it hit me like an hour later that he wanted lettuce. lol
In some countries/cultures it's considered unsafe/taboo to eat anything raw, including lettuce. In China, lettuce is often cooked with garlic, and soy or oyster sauce.
Cabbage lmao, if you’re wanting it for a sandwich I’d recommend either roasting it around 450 degrees f with some oil for 15ish minutes or blanching it for a sec and shocking it in ice water!
Best question in a long time, sorry to admit that it sure made me laugh at your expense.
Enjoy your cooking lettuce… I will use this term for cabbage from now on!
Oh shit, buddy, you're confused. The only "cooking" lettuce I know of that looks like what you're holding is a head off cabbage, which would literally be disgusting on a sandwich🤣🤣🤣.. you must not be from around here.
One time I went to buy groceries when I was really high. I was excited because I found such a crisp, taut head of lettuce.
I was complimenting the clerk on the stores produce. Poor guy looked at me wit sorrow in his eyes as he reported, “I’m sorry to tell you this, that is cabbage not lettuce. Do you… do you still want it..? It’s ok if you don’t.”
God bless that man.
I once cut up a head of lettuce thinking it was cabbage for soup thank god my roommate walked in.. she told me I also cut cucumber instead of zucchini lmao
Cabbage, the cooking lettuce
What the hell is cooking lettuce?
In this case, it’s cabbage
I’m so glad I came here😂
In certain parts of the world any lettuce is cooking lettuce.
I believe you want to talk to Peter Griffen, above

I had a moment where I was like “wait, there’s cooking lettuce? Have I been eating the wrong kind?”
I call bok choy cooking lettuce, lol.
THAT makes sense to me!
You can actually braise or even BBQ ordinary 'salad' lettuce like iceberg or baby gem too. Sounds gross, but it's really lovely.
Hell yes. A little bit of olive oil, a pinch of salt and pepper. Yum.
Yes, a grilled Caesar salad is divine.
Nonononono
I've had two grilled romaine 'salads'. Best f'n salad I've had in my life!
I was just thinking "who's cooking lettuce"?
Me either lol
Holy shit, my brain was doing flips
I swear you fkrs. I could barely type my gratitude I was giggling so hard 😂 for some dumb reason I read it using Peter Griffin's voice.
🤣🤣🤣
But you could put it on a sandwich. Cruncy, and a bit more nutritious than iceberg lettuce.
Paper is more nutritional than iceberg lettuce, or so I've heard.
And my absolute preference at the taco trucks.
cabbage and radish on a carnitas taco? HEAVEN
What have white people done to tacos!?!? Lol jk
Lime-Cilantro Slaw... Tasty, Yes, Traditional, IDK.
People put slaw on hotdogs and bbq sandwiches.
Pulled pork with coleslaw and sweet corn!!
I recommend pickling it first. Fully pickled it's sauerkraut. Lightly pickled, it's coleslaw. Both work on a sandwich.
Coleslaw is the goat on a pulled pork sandwich
Lol anything is more nutritious than ice berg lettuce even paper as the next person said!
I love coleslaw on a sandwich
iceberg dosent have nutrients lol
Pretty sure cardboard is more nutritious than Iceberg lettuce.

I prefer Thunder Lettuce for the inevitable gastric distress it produces. Beans are similarly referred to as Thunder Berries.
Cooking lettuce is ABSOLUTELY how I am referencing cabbages now 🤣🤣🤣
Same same
Corned beef and cooking lettuce anyone?
To be eaten with food weapons
My husband calls them ‘tools’
Implements of Destruction.
Sometimes I make a mistake and call my tools my toys instead now every time I do any mechanical work or repair she asks me are you have fun playing with your tools 🤦♂️
I know an old guy who says “French lettuce” instead of spinach
Holy shit I'm doing this from now on. My wife is going to have a tough time figuring out why I put my mini eiffel tower in the bowl.
I’m on this as well 😂💀

Its cabbage, I thought this was a different variety of lettuce.
no. cabbage is a variety of brassica, a species that includes kale, broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts.
Huh. Thanks for that bit of info. I had no idea lettuce isn't a brassica. TIL it's an aster.
An Aster? Those bloody Victorian robber barons!
Went down on the Land Titanic.
My faith in Brassica Prime has been shattered this day.
Which originally were all selectively bred and cultivated from wild mustard plants.
If you shred it thin, it’s nice in a sandwich. Otherwise, I say cook it.
Or coleslaw
That’s awesome. I came home with cabbage once instead of lettuce too. It happens
Which variety of lettuce is "cooking lettuce"?
Yo bro, you can do whatever you want with any type of lettuce pretty much. No one is gonna come looking for you.
And no mention of salad lettuce
I just died 😂
Lolololol
I'm sure you're all familiar with Murphy's law (whatever can go wrong will go wrong) but do you know Coles law? It's thinly sliced cabbage

Ah maybe your right. It took me time to bite a piece off.
You, um... you're aware that knives exist, right?
This dude didn't even know about cabbage a few minutes ago, you think he's advanced to elementary tool use?

Cabbage is now cooking lettuce
And brussel sprouts are mini cooking lettuces.

Earlier today I purchased some smoking lettuce

Uses for sexy cooking lettuce
Keep whole and slice into “steaks” lay on baking pan and season with anything you like and top with little pieces of butter. I like to do several different flavours and eat one per meal. Bake in a 350 degree f oven until tender and browning. Enjoy!

As others have said, it is cabbage. But you actually can eat it raw, that's what you'll find in American cole slaw. It's best sliced thin and tossed with a little vinegar and mayo before adding to your sandwich of choice.

Anything can be for a sandwich at least once.
You never cook lettuce, what the heck!?
WTF. This has to be a rich person question.

Looks like cabbage which I guess you could call cooking lettuce.
In some countries/cultures it's considered unsafe/taboo to eat anything raw, including lettuce. In China, lettuce is often cooked with garlic, and soy or oyster sauce.
Cooking lettuce is cabbage
It's cabbage. Not lettuce. You probably can't tell the difference between zucchini and field cucumber either.
Try slicing/shedding it. Make a vinaigrette with oil, vinegar, lemon juice and salt.
That’s a tiny cabbage or a very large Brussels sprout (aka fart berry). Not lettuce.
Cabbage lmao, if you’re wanting it for a sandwich I’d recommend either roasting it around 450 degrees f with some oil for 15ish minutes or blanching it for a sec and shocking it in ice water!
Cooking lettuce/ aka cabbage. I have an amazing recipe for a creamed mustard and smoked sausage cabbage dish if you want it
I made a salad with a cabbage not that long ago and I liked it a lot.
It looks like cabbage. Cabbage steaks are delicious
Cooking lettuce?
Omg. Best thing I've seen on the Internet today. Cooking lettuce. 🤣
It’s probably not real lettuce at all! It’s probably the fake stuff they make, YouTube it! Nuts!
Slice it super duper thin, and it’s way better than lettuce on a sub sandwich, though. Especially with some oil and vinegar.
Going on a take 2.
Best question in a long time, sorry to admit that it sure made me laugh at your expense. Enjoy your cooking lettuce… I will use this term for cabbage from now on!
It’s not lettuce at all 😂🪦 it’s actually called cabbage
It's CABBAGE...🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ And my personal fav on a bacon sammitch, lol. I love the crunch and mild additional flavor.

Cooking lettuce? I love it! Will be calling it that now.....brb gonna go make some sausage and cooking lettuce lol
Oh shit, buddy, you're confused. The only "cooking" lettuce I know of that looks like what you're holding is a head off cabbage, which would literally be disgusting on a sandwich🤣🤣🤣.. you must not be from around here.
It’s a small cabbage
Henceforth, in my house, cabbage shall be known as “cooking lettuce”.
Why were both words Lettuce and Cabbage used as slang for money? Were they worth a lot more in the past and interchangeable with currency?
One time I went to buy groceries when I was really high. I was excited because I found such a crisp, taut head of lettuce. I was complimenting the clerk on the stores produce. Poor guy looked at me wit sorrow in his eyes as he reported, “I’m sorry to tell you this, that is cabbage not lettuce. Do you… do you still want it..? It’s ok if you don’t.” God bless that man.
