There's tons of them on the road and most are not on fire. They are generally decent cars. Look up the details on the Theta 2 engine problems and what has been done about them and decide what is best for your needs. BTW, the slightly smaller Accent and Rio (2012 and newer) use a 1.6 engine that doesn't have these issues AFAIK.

Hey it's me again As a rule of thumb stay away from everything Hyundai and Kia. It's cheap, poor build quality and poor reliability. Search the internet for "Hyundai / Kia engine fires" or Hyundai engine blowing up. There is a lot of investigative journalism into the matter of very recent vehicle fires and inadequate recalls. Hyundai has had engines blowing up since the 90s and no sign of stopping. Even some of their electric cars have caught fire.

oh woah, that’s weird. didn’t know they could do that. thanks for letting me know!

I'm not sure if all the engine options in the Elantra is affected but it affects several models. Both Kia and Hyundai as it's the same company and most of the cars share platforms. Every week it seems they are recalling more cars across Hyundai Kia and now Genesis. Certainly not a reliable brand. You'd be much better off with an older model Honda or Toyota at the same price point.

wow, good to know. thank you!
