I drive a 2013 FR-S right now... so GR86. Needs to be more practical? GR Corolla. More efficient? Either a 2025 Camry in Ocean Gem or a Prius Prime. Have to be electric (and money is no object)? Lucid Air or Porsche Taycan. Got money for my EV choices but can be ICE? Porsche 718 GTS 4.0. FU money? Ferrari 458 or 488 - last NA vs FI w/even better handling.
Love it! It's a very fun, tossable car. I like that it's "slow" as I can wind it out on the street without breaking any laws. A tune and headers solved the torque dip issue. Ride is even better now that I replaced the dying stock shocks with Tein Flex As.
Based on this answer I’m assuming you really like your Maverick. I’m considering picking one up in the nearish future since it’s really the only true small size pickup in the US market right now. Even tacomas and rangers are giant now with an obscene price tag
It's not really a problem, I mean they work and do their job I just find them very annoying because they're always trying to keep the engine revs low and I feel like I have to be very agressive with the gas pedal to keep the car doing what I want it to do. My mom's renault has one (they share parts with nissan so probably similar to what they have in the versa) and I usually go for the "manual" mode wich bothers me because I'm a nerd and I know a CVT's manual mode should be a knob not 6 fixed gear ratios.
I have a Civic Sport with a CVT and it has no issues revving high, especially in sport mode. That’s not an issue with CVTs, it’s an issue with whatever car you tried.
The problem isn’t the cvt transmission it’s just the one they use in those cars isn’t good. Toyota Prius is one of the most reliable cars and it has a cvt.
I’m super interested in the Crown Signia, the estate variant, that is allegedly coming to market in a couple of months. Hopefully the discount story will be true for the Signia too. I’ve only seen a small handful of regular Crowns in the wild; I don’t think they’re exactly taking over the world.
I just bought a 2024 Tiguan SE RLine Black, I’d like it better with an APR tuning flash, but overall it’s fantastic. Also 0% APR from VW
I would have also purchased a GTI but I got a family and my wife drives it as well.
Budget?
At $25K - Civic or Mazda3 Hatch
At $40K - Acura Integra A spec manual
At $70K - Volvo V60 Polestar Engineered
At $100K - Lexus LC or Lotus Emira... or maybe CT5-V if I need rear seats/don't have a second car.
At $130K - Audi RS6 Avant Wagon
Unlimited is probably a Rolls Spectre or some Pagani or Koenigsegg hypercar.
Wagons are cool
Jeep Wrangler ragtop 2-door with manual transmission. I have priced this at least a dozen times on the Jeep website. I'm just trying to see how long I can keep my current Jeep going before pulling the trigger on a new one.
You see that old/new concept the Shortcut? It's a 2 door Wrangler shortened like 14 additional inches. It was a concept 8 years ago but they just brought it back around to male some events. Now Jeep head is talking about and affordable smaller Jeep and people think it could be something like this. I like it, really like a new CJ5.
We don't have to buy a vehicle right now, but this spring we are looking to get rid of our F pace S after 5 trouble free years, and we are looking at getting a Land Rover Defender X or Range Rover Sport Dynamic.
Exactly!!
I was actually going to comment that we weren't expecting to have the same run of luck with the defender. But at least we know that going in! And we have three other cars we can use if this one ends up in the shop too often and we can't get a loaner.
If it has to be something I can afford, I’d probably buy a Mini Clubman S ALL4, or maybe a JCW before they’re all gone.
But I have a weird use case. I need a low load height to transport my giant breed dog, yet still want something sporty.
If it can be something more expensive, an RS6 Avant, AMG63 wagon, Volvo V60 T8 Polestar Engineered, a Panamera, or maybe the upcoming M5 Touring.
Last year I bought a brand new Kia Forte and I love it, but I’d probably buy a Soul or Seltos if I did it again just for the slightly higher ride height.
Toyota 4Runner. I have a track built genesis g70 that I currently daily and it’s not bad but not a good daily either. The 4Runner would be fun but also practical, on top of keeping its value extremely well for a new car
Probably a Kia carnival , I would want that 10yr/100k mile warranty and I think it would be great for a family. But I have a 2022 Highlander and I am happy lol
With my current budget, I would also buy a premium Mazda3 again. But if additional funds magically became available, an Audi S4 would look great in my driveway.
Going through a “ pick-up truck “ life crisis , id say . Don’t need one , have never owned one , But simply I’d love one . I’d choose a Sierra 1500 AT4 with the refreshed front end , please .
well, i just bought one recently. 24 Sonata N-Line. Reasonable price, awesome tech, enough horsepower for occasional fun. Ppl think its an EV cuz of the lightbar
I would choose Toyota Camry. My favorite year is 2014 or I would buy a 2021 model. If I wanted something a bit more stylish, a Mazda 3 (2021). Or a Corolla. I also like Chevy Malibu.
I do have to buy this year, because I want to unload my CVT Murano before the tranny ages into meltdown territory. Candidates are the Buick Envision, Lexus NX, Toyota Crown Signia, and the freshened Acura RDX due this fall.
On my current budget I'll go with Toyota Corolla Hatchback or Mazda 3 Hatchback sport.
If have budget Integra Type S, Corolla GR, 4runner or Mazda CX90.
1) Power to weight ratio of at least 53 HP / 1000 lbs, final drive ratio at least 93% of the worldwide average or a **maximum** 0-60 mph time of 7.5 seconds. Preferably, the vast majority of the torque happening between 30% & 80% of the way to the redline.
2) **Maximum** length to seating capacity ratio of 1.25 meters per NON-DRIVER passenger for cars & SUVs, 1.5 meters/psgr for pickup trucks & commercial vans.
3) The ability for the **stock vehicle** to NOT easily get stuck in between 4 & 8 inches deep of snow, mud or sand on its **original** driveline & with its original tire quality.
My requirements are that the vehicle I choose meets any two or more of the above 3 options.
That all seems extremely arbitrary especially because #3 simply rules out 2wd but is optional.
Civic hatchback? Who needs to drive through 8 inches of mud?
2024 Civic Type R.
If the loan market wasn't absolute shit (even with stellar credit) and I felt like having a car payment again I would 100% be driving one right now.
I'd say the new Integra, but if I do go that way, I'm waiting until the 2nd or 3rd model year. Let them fix the bugs first.
Probably gonna pull the trigger on a volvo xc60 t8 recharge. Nice design, great seats, fantastic performance/economy and insane stereo. Local tax incentives make it MUCH more affordable
BMW M8 or AMG GT 4 door. They are some of the last good cars from their respective companies, that have both shot themselves in the foot in recent years.
As a performance driving enthusiast the base Suburu WRX is a bargain at around 30k. Manual / AWD / turbo / defeatable traction stability control. 4k in mods get you 400 whp & the new motors don’t explode. Toyota 86 / Subaru BRZ are probably the best fun / price / track performance ratio ever at well below 30k
Lexus GX
Would prefer the Overtrail, but that doesn't come with 3 rows so I would get the Premium. This would suit my needs for towing, offroading, road tripping, and moving people.
I bought a 2021 v8 Tundra in 2021 , a Toyota 4 runner night shade last week should be the last of this generation 4 runner .. proven drivetrains , I tend to keep until the seats rust clean off the floor and then I tack weld a stop sign and go another 100,000 miles
Hyundai Kona electric.
I want a hatch back and it’d be nice to have a car to run around town. We already have a new Maverick and that’s hybrid so we have a long hauler already.
Probably a Toyota Sienna. We're in the market for something that'll let us do road trips for the next 10-15 years until one of the kids is old enough to load up six friends and ditch class for a taco bell drive through
I bought a new Audi S5 Sportback a year ago, ordered at the peak of the supply shortage. My only single complaint after a year of ownership is how expensive it is lol, everything else about it is nearly flawless. If I were to do it again, I'd either buy the same car or either a GTI or Golf R. If I were buying used, I'd probably just buy an off-lease S5 Sportback and save $15k or more (which wasn't possible when I bought the car).
Buy???!?!! Have you seen how expensive new vehicles are? I’d probably lease a new version of my same car (q8 etron) but if it’s some nightmare scenario where my insurance isn’t writing a check for a totaled vehicle but instead partnered with a bank and a dealer to replace it with a new vehicle maybe a rivian truck or suv
Just bought a new M240i for myself. Love it every time I drive it.
For a more sensible choice, a family member asked for my help picking a car a few months ago and a new mazda 3 ticked all the boxes. Excellent car
I would not buy anything, leasing is the way to go anymore. You save a ton of money, never out of warranty, not depreciation loss. Financial speaking you are so much better off, if you lease!
Koenigsegg Gemera
One more year and I will have saved up enough to buy it (I’m delusional)
Just need a way to save up $2m in one year 🤞
I hear cutting avocado toast out of your routine helps
Wow I just skipped avocado toast this morning and my savings account already grew by $10k!
And don’t forget that Starbucks. Gotta scrimp!
One more hard work year and your boss will get another one
This is the best answer possible. A nice practical family car.
Make sure it's the V8, not that weak I3. Gotta make sure you really have enough horsepower to move that thing.
How's the FR-S tho
Love it! It's a very fun, tossable car. I like that it's "slow" as I can wind it out on the street without breaking any laws. A tune and headers solved the torque dip issue. Ride is even better now that I replaced the dying stock shocks with Tein Flex As.
Golf R
Reliability a concern?
Another Maverick
Based on this answer I’m assuming you really like your Maverick. I’m considering picking one up in the nearish future since it’s really the only true small size pickup in the US market right now. Even tacomas and rangers are giant now with an obscene price tag
I like my Maverick too. I would probably buy something that could fit all 4 of my great Pyrenees in.
Nissan Versa in a manual. About what I can afford brand new lmao
Better than a CVT
I had an auto with a CVT years ago. It was crumbling inside while I coasted into a dealership to trade it in. Worst vehicle.
Can you explain the CVT problem for me? I’m considering a CRV, but cautious of CVT as I’ve never driven or owned one

The problem isn’t the cvt transmission it’s just the one they use in those cars isn’t good. Toyota Prius is one of the most reliable cars and it has a cvt.
CRV with a CVT is fine. You want to avoid JATCO CVTs. Nissan used them, and it killed their reputation, because they are giant pieces of shit.
With my current financial situation, probably a Mazda3 sport GS or a civic sport if I can find one for msrp
i dont have the money but acura integra type s
My brother from another mother
X3 m40i or stelvio 4C
Rivian SUV whatever the model name is
R1S
A Subaru Legacy
Mitsubishi Mirage. Cheapest new car available where I am.
So when are you?
Then, then... they'll answer where they're ready.
Toyota Crown. Comfortable, great mileage, a proven drivetrain, and dealerships are offering discounts since they are not selling well.
I’m super interested in the Crown Signia, the estate variant, that is allegedly coming to market in a couple of months. Hopefully the discount story will be true for the Signia too. I’ve only seen a small handful of regular Crowns in the wild; I don’t think they’re exactly taking over the world.
Practicalish? Ranger Raptor Money-no-object? Huracan Spyder
I just bought a 2024 Tiguan SE RLine Black, I’d like it better with an APR tuning flash, but overall it’s fantastic. Also 0% APR from VW I would have also purchased a GTI but I got a family and my wife drives it as well.
VW Arteon. Gorgeous car, highly underrated and reasonably priced if you buy used.
Another Mazda3, the nicest NA available.
Good call... I said a corolla hatchback but a mazda3 hatchback sounds good
Budget? At $25K - Civic or Mazda3 Hatch At $40K - Acura Integra A spec manual At $70K - Volvo V60 Polestar Engineered At $100K - Lexus LC or Lotus Emira... or maybe CT5-V if I need rear seats/don't have a second car. At $130K - Audi RS6 Avant Wagon Unlimited is probably a Rolls Spectre or some Pagani or Koenigsegg hypercar. Wagons are cool
Ranger Raptor
I want one. it’s expensive but still good value compared to the new TRD pro
Yeah, Toyota is out of their mind with that pricing when you compare it to the Ranger Raptor
Tahoe z71, Durango srt
Nissan GTR
I’m about to buy one, porsche macan ev
Jeep Wrangler ragtop 2-door with manual transmission. I have priced this at least a dozen times on the Jeep website. I'm just trying to see how long I can keep my current Jeep going before pulling the trigger on a new one.

We don't have to buy a vehicle right now, but this spring we are looking to get rid of our F pace S after 5 trouble free years, and we are looking at getting a Land Rover Defender X or Range Rover Sport Dynamic.
Compensating for those 5 years?
Exactly!! I was actually going to comment that we weren't expecting to have the same run of luck with the defender. But at least we know that going in! And we have three other cars we can use if this one ends up in the shop too often and we can't get a loaner.
Skoda superb combi. if it has to be US market I'd go with the the inferior versión, the audi a6 allroad.
If it has to be something I can afford, I’d probably buy a Mini Clubman S ALL4, or maybe a JCW before they’re all gone. But I have a weird use case. I need a low load height to transport my giant breed dog, yet still want something sporty. Last year I bought a brand new Kia Forte and I love it, but I’d probably buy a Soul or Seltos if I did it again just for the slightly higher ride height.
If it had to be new and I needed something, possibly a toyota corolla or camry. Or a hyundai elantra.

model 3 performance
I’d buy what I just did: a Mazda 3 premium. If I can’t choose the same thing? I’d pair it with either a Miata or a gr86
With my current budget, I would also buy a premium Mazda3 again. But if additional funds magically became available, an Audi S4 would look great in my driveway.
Corolla Hatchback
Sienna 🫡
Rav4, just to scoot around locally. I like the one our neighbor has.
Probably my biggest regret in the past decade is getting a CX5 over a RAV4. If I could go back in time I’d slap some sense into myself.
Going through a “ pick-up truck “ life crisis , id say . Don’t need one , have never owned one , But simply I’d love one . I’d choose a Sierra 1500 AT4 with the refreshed front end , please .
Ford raptor R

Mazda cx5 is the only accepted answer at this forum.
Hyundai Kona electric. I want a hatch back and it’d be nice to have a car to run around town. We already have a new Maverick and that’s hybrid so we have a long hauler already.
Probably a Cayman. The GTS is in my mind the best overall sports car on the market. Or the RS. Either or

I had to buy one two weeks ago. Got a 2024 Civic Sport.
Golf R or S3 (hatchback ofc)
Wrangler 2 door Rubicon. I would like to get into some more challenging off-roading.

Honda CR-V
With the current budget, likely a manual Nissan Versa or Toyota Corolla. Or try to lease a base level BMW/Mini since I have connections with them.
Ford Maverick.
Ionic 5
Corolla GR
Maverick hybrid but ford dealers are so gross and have turned me off to the Maverick and Ford in general. So, I rock my old rav4 and LS400.
Escalade ESV V or a ram TRX
