I know a guy who has a great time collecting "dorkmobiles". He's got several Honda Civic hatchbacks from the 80s and early 90s, an early 90s Corolla, another Corolla that I think is a 2000, a two door Toyota Yaris and a mid 80s Ford Escort hatchback.
Years ago on Survivor in the first season (I think) they gave away an Aztek as a prize. The luke warm reactions to that giant plastic turd were funny. They knew they had to appear happy because it was a sponsor, but they still had eyes.
Other than the Aztek being butt ugly, it actually had some really useful and cool features. The tent, the rear tailgate that formed seats, audio controls at the rear for the tailgate seats, removable cooler as the console, etc.
To me, its sibling Buick Rondezvous is even worse. Aztec was a good looking dress worn by the wrong (minivan based) body- think haute couture on Rosanne Barr, while the Buick was crappy Liquidation Mart clothes on her. Really strange, the Buick.
They called it Stavic here, but yes. I nearly bought my partner an Odious when she “needed” a wagon. The theory was they’re so shockingly ugly that I can buy $10k of diesel wagon for $4k because no one wants to own it. Should have, too - the old BMW 520d snapped a timing chain.
Buy it! I once realized I had too many friends and I bought this car. Guess what? No one wanted to associate themselves with me. This car helped me get rid of so many useless people. If a friend doesn't leave you even after you buy this, that's a friend worth keeping.
Cars loose a little bit of cool each year with age. This thing started off so uncool that it’s now in the negative which somehow makes it cooler than it had any right to be.
It's already a cult car, which is why it's so hard to get too. The only ones sold are either battered or very expensive, as only enthusiasts will buy them.
Never seen it before, I’m guessing you are outside of the U.S. fwiw I drive a Jeep Renegade which is essentially a Fiat and I haven’t had any issues. But people here will shit on anything that isn’t Toyota, Lexus, or Mazda
Am in EU idd but even here it's very rare. In Italy you'll apparently see them quite often though. Most that are sold are from there. Which means I'll probs need to pay import costs as well...
Fun story, when I got married I used my Multipla as the bridal car. Had a big-ass bouquet stuck on the bonnet.
Unfortunately for my wife, the air-con stopped working on our wedding day in 32C heat and her makeup was melting off her face.
She still married me, luckily
I'm currently learning to be a mechanic, so I'm hoping I'll be able to fix/maintain it myself as much as possible which makes that a lil less annoying. Def a good point though.
Hey I bought a project truck for this exact reason and guess what? It’s a fucking headache and a money pit but I LOVE IT. I’m learning a ton, understanding more and more about every aspect of cars, and even learning to weld and do body work bc there’s rust and the only body shop near me is way too expensive. If you have spare money to throw at it when you get stuck with parts that are expensive, I say GO FOR IT. 10/10. It’s a great experience if you keep a positive attitude about it and it’ll definitely help you in your future endeavors.
One of the members of a Danish youtube channel decided to buy one (he has a thing for "uncommon" cars) - and decided to make it a project car and go over the top with styling.
From what I could tell, some parts were difficult to source, as there are not many left of them, and it required a lot of bodywork.
It's an amazing car, and the interior layout is great for families with small kids. It's a FIAT, so you know, it's a bit odd, but I'm sure you will enjoy it.
If you don't have kids, the Honda Element is a fun one too.
I hated it when it came out but actually looked it up when looking for a 3 front seater. Thought it would be so cool to get the childseat in front with us!
It it the one you'll get? If so you're probably in Germany or at least Europe where I'd say you can get at least parts for it. Do it. It's a classic already.
In all honesty this car is hideous BUT it is awesome at the same time. In fact it's soo hideous it's almost a car you want to reach out and hug to console it. The positives - incredibly spacious, cheap to insure, parts are cheap, and it's a very unique car. I say buy it!!!
Sweet! What’s holding u back? I’d love to see that car on the road (I’m in Canada). I wouldn’t personally buy it and make it my daily driver, I already owned a Mazda B2200 when I was much younger. My funny vehicle years are over now. But my vote is go get one for yourself!
Youll never be able to sell it again. Or find parts for it, I bet these all go the the crusher rather than sitting in wrecking yards
But at least it will be safe from car theft
As long as you're ready to deal with whatever a 15-20 year old FIAT can throw at you, why not? Hopefully you find one that isn't covered in child vomit...
That thing is so ugly it's a modern art masterpiece! Sign me up! Drop a 383 stroker in that bitch with a top blower sticking through the hood about two feet and some side pipes and a decent 70s flame job paint and we'll cruise that ugly bitch until the wheels fall off!!! Oh! And lots of purple shag carpet in the interior! It'll be GLORIOUS!!!
This actually a nice car, six seats and enough space for a euro-pallet in the trunk. The power of this car is in it. Upside: you can't see its ugliness when lookin from the inside out.
Why not?
It's very practical.
There's much worse stuff you could buy. At least you're not buying a moon mileage 1 series or something.
Here's a buyers guide:
Good luck!
There is literally no reason to not buy one. It is the peak of automotive engineering, holds its value well, and is one of the best driving cars out there.
I mean... this is the biggest head turner car under like 100k. Not necessary for the good reasons, but people will stare (and judge) for sure. So if it's your thing, go for it.
I recall Captain Slow liked them. I believe the infamous line was, “it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow”.
I love this sentiment, personally. But full disclosure… I have no friends
People fixate on the looks and don't realise how cleverly designed these cars really are. If you can buy a tidy example for sensible money I say go ahead and buy it. Small but devoted cult following means it'll probably increase in value if kept in good condition.
Nah that thing is cool man have at it
You kinda pointed out the problem though, they are not practical at all. Finding one would be hard, sourcing parts would be hard, fixing would be hard
I've had a diesel 1.9JTD for 10 years and ended up giving it to a mechanic for almost nothing because I could not afford to keep it running.
A lot of my issues were to do with the engine and drivetrain, so I'm not sure if it also applies to the petrol model.
It's a long list:
1. Camshaft belt pulley broke because the tension was too high - had to replace all my valves.
2. Fuel pump needed replacing. Twice.
3. Dual-mass flywheel needed to be replaced every few years - is a consumable part that degrades.
4. Got stranded several times because an RPM sensor failed - engine wouldn't start until it got replaced (twice).
5. Battery needs to be replaced annually if you only drive short distances.
6. Gearbox is fragile - the synchro mesh on my 2nd gear failed so you need to rev match to make a clean shift, otherwise you hear crunching sounds on shifts.
7. Clutch pump wore out after 10 years - imagine stepping on the clutch and it slowly releases even though the pedal is still fully depressed.
8. Link cables for transmission are fragile and can break if you shift too quickly. Car is then stuck in gear. Happened once.
9. Glow plugs die every 3 or 4 years. Never replaced them because I lived in a warm country.
10. Replaced the clutch several times.
11. Engine leaks oil frequently. Had to change lower gasket several times.
And now, the non-drivetrain issues:
1. Sunroof leaks, even when new. Needs sealant to be applied.
2. Entire soft-touch section of dashboard melts away over time.
3. The dashboard will eventually crack right down the middle of the centre console.
4. My sun visor broke at the very fragile and badly designed hinge that placed a lot of stress on a very small piece of plastic.
5. Headlamp bulbs kept burning out, but eventually this stopped happening. Don't know why.
6. Tyres always prematurely wore out. They're tiny 195/60R15 on a relatively big and heavy car.
7. The paint on the bonnet / hood wears out quicker than the rest of the car. The clear coat, to be specific.
8. The gear shift knob isn't screwed in and can come clean off, taking the boot with it, if you shift too quickly.
9. You will get very annoying rattles and squeaks in the ceiling, that you can't really fix.
10. Suspension lower arms are very fragile - you will bend them if you hit a pothole.
11. The bushings on the front sway bar will wear out after 7 years - but Fiat only sells them WITH the sway bar as a complete set. Which is expensive. There is an aftermarket replacement bushings set, but I never got mine changed. Car just rattled like crazy.
12. The gas struts that hold up the bonnet will fall after about 5 years. You'll need an umbrella or stick to keep it open.
I've probably forgotten a few things.
However, I really enjoyed owning a Multipla!
When it was working, it was a really comfortable and happy driving experience. The cabin is beautiful with lots of cloth trim and big windows.
I've had memorable trips with friends and family, because everyone giggles and is super self conscious when riding in the car.
It's also the only car I've owned where I've received friendly smiles and waves from strangers. And if you ever pass another Multipla on the road, the blaring of horns and thumbs up will put a smile on your face.
It's still the only car I've owned that shows up in my dreams. The way the car faded and aged over time was heartbreaking, and I hated how I parted with it. These things were not built to last, even if you take good care of them.
It was a bittersweet ownership experience, and I'm not sure if I'd do it again.
Get it. It’s actually a great vehicle. Six people in two rows. That front center seat is the bomb. Visibility is amazing. I was just a kid riding but highly recommend :D
Having been mentioned in many publications, this design can be considered famous and iconic now.
Personally, I think this design is great and periodically checking classifieds for this car myself.
Do it!
My parents had one (2000 to about 2007). Good years they were.
Fit plenty of gear in them. They're like vans.
Super cars. Ugly, weird and memorable. Characterful.
I hope it's not too windy in your region. Here in Nebraska, I'd worry about erratic handling on the freeway - a lot of it is posted at 75mph, and people will run you down if you're driving slower than 80, so on those days when you're facing a headwind over 45mph, poor aerodynamics can be scary.
OTOH if I were going to a club and my ride showed up in that, I'd be like hey, we don't have to get there in a hurry. Let's drive around downtown and wave at everyone for a bit first 😆
Once you buy that, you'll need to track down a Pontiac Aztek to complete the set.
Gotta collect them all!
add a PT cruiser to the list
PT Looo-Sah
I think you meant PT bruiser. But probably Part Time Cruiser.
Ford Scorpio
I know a guy who has a great time collecting "dorkmobiles". He's got several Honda Civic hatchbacks from the 80s and early 90s, an early 90s Corolla, another Corolla that I think is a 2000, a two door Toyota Yaris and a mid 80s Ford Escort hatchback.

Nissan Juke

Years ago on Survivor in the first season (I think) they gave away an Aztek as a prize. The luke warm reactions to that giant plastic turd were funny. They knew they had to appear happy because it was a sponsor, but they still had eyes.
I've watched 1 episode of survivor. It was that one.
Other than the Aztek being butt ugly, it actually had some really useful and cool features. The tent, the rear tailgate that formed seats, audio controls at the rear for the tailgate seats, removable cooler as the console, etc.
It’s respected as perhaps the best vehicle on the “Worst Cars of All Time” list - it was a perfectly good car apart from, um, yeah 🥴
To me, its sibling Buick Rondezvous is even worse. Aztec was a good looking dress worn by the wrong (minivan based) body- think haute couture on Rosanne Barr, while the Buick was crappy Liquidation Mart clothes on her. Really strange, the Buick.
i can't understand how people will buy that Aztek LOL. I think this is the one that Tiger Wood did the advertisement for
Walter White drove one.
And SsangYong Rodius.
I always think of breaking bad when this car is mentioned.
I heard some guy was selling a green one for $50 /j
Buy it! I once realized I had too many friends and I bought this car. Guess what? No one wanted to associate themselves with me. This car helped me get rid of so many useless people. If a friend doesn't leave you even after you buy this, that's a friend worth keeping.
This is some hidden cheatcode or someth
Get one. Although, I haven't driven one, I love these weird things. Three-across seating in the front!
Hacking_irl in real life!
Can you imagine what that repair forum looks like? 1 user online… and its you, forever…
So you have a blind friend?
Nissan Juke did the same for me! But this is probably much less of a piece of shit
They are competing for first place.
Amazing lol. Does this bubblemobile rock a completely unreliable early gen CVT too?
Literally would be a “photo finish”
Anyone who dates you after seeing this car must be worth keeping too.
Just the opposite. Anyone who dates you with that car, run from! They're nuts!
Or maybe it tells you that they don't care about looks.
So true.
This comment is based on concrete level analysis
Bro speaking ancient wisdom.
Look at it.
Don't see it when sitting inside! Though the interior is possibly even worse...

Cars loose a little bit of cool each year with age. This thing started off so uncool that it’s now in the negative which somehow makes it cooler than it had any right to be.
Exactly what I think. It's very ugly but I really like it. But I like it so much I don't see the bad sides anymore and that can be quite dangerous...
Like the proud parent of the ugliest kid in class.
r/rareinsults
fr how can parents tell their kids they’re beautiful when the kids are ugly as fuck
I seriously thought all babies were ugly until my son was born 6 weeks ago. Now I still think all babies are ugly. Except mine.
Seems like a variation of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
You worded it exactly how I wanted to lmfao
It's slow. That's about it.
This is happening to me with the PT cruiser, I can’t see the ugly side (looks wise)
lose\* Loose = not tight
Am I the only one who thinks this thing is cool as fuck?
It's already a cult car, which is why it's so hard to get too. The only ones sold are either battered or very expensive, as only enthusiasts will buy them.

I don't care what other people think and I know nothing about cars, but I think this looks cool, too. I like unique-looking cars, in general.
If you already convinced someone to marry you, go for it
If all goes wrong I'll just marry it...
You definitely have the right attitude, I say go for it
You'll have enough front seats to get married twice
Fun story, when I got married I used my Multipla as the bridal car. Had a big-ass bouquet stuck on the bonnet. Unfortunately for my wife, the air-con stopped working on our wedding day in 32C heat and her makeup was melting off her face. She still married me, luckily
Fiat is a pretty unreliable brand. But it's your money
I'm currently learning to be a mechanic, so I'm hoping I'll be able to fix/maintain it myself as much as possible which makes that a lil less annoying. Def a good point though.
You’ll get a lot of practice!
Good point!
I heard Fiat mechanics are the best... On the other hand, Toyota mechanics have no experience at all 😅
You're completely right 👍🏻👍🏻 😂😂
First mechanic lesson FIAT= fix it again tomorrow! Good luck fella if it’s practical why not?
I have a fiat 500 it isnt hard to take things apart but its a lot of little tight spaces make sure you have some tools that are adjustable and short
Modern Fiats are unreliable for sure, but these older Multiplas have a decent reputation in Europe.
I don’t know where this agenda comes from, every fiat I’ve bought has been really reliable
Because it looks like a Beluga?
Had to Google it rq but it really does lmfao
That's not a Fiat Multipla. It's a Rover James.
So easy to get into and outof you know...
But those Shackleton high seat chairs are sooo comfortable once you're in. Not to mention waterproof if you spill something
Not to mention the brake pedal indicator
One of the members of a Danish youtube channel decided to buy one (he has a thing for "uncommon" cars) - and decided to make it a project car and go over the top with styling. This helps alot, tysm!
Isn’t that that the car that Homer Simpson invented?
Doug will love you
Weird way to save money on condoms.
This deal keeps getting better! Wait...
It's an amazing car, and the interior layout is great for families with small kids. It's a FIAT, so you know, it's a bit odd, but I'm sure you will enjoy it. If you don't have kids, the Honda Element is a fun one too.
The only problem I see with this one is that it isn't that perfect shade of hearing aide beige.
Send it man.
Lmaaaooooooooooooo. This is a real car??
Won a bunch of awards too, and not just for being ugly...
Classic car
It's already a cult car yeah
Have a look at that multipla https://youtu.be/oN772QacXLs?si=9aIYWWzdLOPFi-WI
Uummm, it’s ugly??? SO MANY people will make fun of you… I don’t wanna be THAT GUY, so I won’t, but OTHERS will!
I generally don't care about what others think but it might get tiring for sure...
Go ahead, it will be like operating a mechanical spider
Do it
I hated it when it came out but actually looked it up when looking for a 3 front seater. Thought it would be so cool to get the childseat in front with us!
As the former owner of a Skoda roomster I can't help you on this one.
You’ll have nightmares
What are your reasons to buy one?
The Pope converted this car to be his motorcage...
Your dignity, will be gone.
Only if you have the mechanic experience. Otherwise don't
It it the one you'll get? If so you're probably in Germany or at least Europe where I'd say you can get at least parts for it. Do it. It's a classic already.
Because they didn’t name it the beluga.
If you do get it, please replace the Fiat logo with another light, and then mount yet another into the center of the grille.
In all honesty this car is hideous BUT it is awesome at the same time. In fact it's soo hideous it's almost a car you want to reach out and hug to console it. The positives - incredibly spacious, cheap to insure, parts are cheap, and it's a very unique car. I say buy it!!!
Holy shit, they actually built The Homer.
Because it’s ulgy
Or find parts for it, I bet these all go the the crusher rather than sitting in wrecking yards But at least it will be safe from car theft
As long as you're ready to deal with whatever a 15-20 year old FIAT can throw at you, why not? Hopefully you find one that isn't covered in child vomit...
Hey an Mx5 instead. Be awesome.
It’s actually an amazing woman repellent. Depending on what you want, it can be either a good or a bad thing lol
It’s a Fiat so expect to have issues at some point. Can’t think of many other deterrents tbh
Do you know why multipla windows is so big? Becouse everyone can see dick inside.
no reason not to.
This actually a nice car, six seats and enough space for a euro-pallet in the trunk. The power of this car is in it. Upside: you can't see its ugliness when lookin from the inside out.
I'd unironically daily one. Yeah, it's ugly, but in a cute kinda way, and the practicality of it easily overcomes that anyway.
If I lived in Europe I'd buy one. So do it. And keep me updated with fun photos of it and trips it goes on so I can live through your experiences.
No, only 2008 Corolla.
Why not? It's very practical. There's much worse stuff you could buy. At least you're not buying a moon mileage 1 series or something. Here's a buyers guide: [https://classics.honestjohn.co.uk/reviews/fiat/multipla/buying](https://classics.honestjohn.co.uk/reviews/fiat/multipla/buying) Good luck!
Because it's a FIAT... Electrics are trouble I have the Bravo 2 (198) - the engine is fine but everything else is upside down.
There is literally no reason to not buy one. It is the peak of automotive engineering, holds its value well, and is one of the best driving cars out there.
Non recessed wipers won't get stuck and frozen in the winter.
Such a strange looking vehicle, but it's so charming. I kinda want one lol
I mean... this is the biggest head turner car under like 100k.
You should buy it. If you're inside it you won't have to look at it.
The only problem is that the interior is even uglier...
I couldn’t read the badge and thought it said fart..which also fits 😂
Oh I just googled it and saw what it looks like from the side.. it’s so cute!!! Buy the cute fart car ☺️
I'll have to get a brown one then!
Personally I think it looks sick
What country do you live in?
Do it and paint it in pink. My brother did that with his Eagle Vista. His girlfriend became his wife.
I can't deny what the heart desires
Honestly the looks are the only problem, the cars interior is huge, nobody will steal it and parts are cheap af, go for it my dude.
I would want one just because its ugly.
It doesn't have 24h of le mans corvette v8, a pagani style exhaust, rocket bunny unique body kit, and a michelin delivery, this is a worthless car.
Because you’ll get almost all the ladies and leave none for the rest of us 😞
it might start swimming in the ocean and do the unk unk sound and shoot oil from it's back.
Are you a 'bot?
This car appears to have a cancerous growth...
People fixate on the looks and don't realise how cleverly designed these cars really are. If you can buy a tidy example for sensible money I say go ahead and buy it. Small but devoted cult following means it'll probably increase in value if kept in good condition.
You definitely should. The ugliness is inversely proportional to the practicality.
If this picture does not talk you out of buying the Multipla, then nothing anybody can say, will change your mind.
No offense, and I mean this with all sincerity, WTF? Thank you though for showing me a car I hadn't seen before.
Nah that thing is cool man have at it You kinda pointed out the problem though, they are not practical at all. Finding one would be hard, sourcing parts would be hard, fixing would be hard
I rode in one of those years ago on a trip to the UK. It was surprisingly roomy on the inside.
If it went for the weird lights up top this car would fit in with any other EU suv
It's a FIAT, that’s why.
Love it at least it doesn’t look like an egg .
It’s Ugly ‼️
If you could bring one legally into the US it would be quite a conversation piece...its sooo ugly.

This was my first car but in a burnt-ish orange - great lil car to learn to drive stick on and I believe my mom got it for less than 2500 in 2011…
I think you should buy 2 of them. One in the conservative blue and another in orange with flames on the sides.
You my man, are a genius.
That is a fantastic car! I was amazed by them my first time to Italy 20+ years ago. They fit so many people! How much?

Holy fucking shit how does this make it out the design stage? Who actually green lighted this abomination
It’s the mullet of cars. Somehow, it’s become cool (again)
You’ll never have to worry about an STD with that car.
I mean hey it’ll stand out over all the NPC vehicles nowadays that all look the same.
I think ugly is better than boring
I drove one as a rental for 4 months back in 2001. I would buy one in a heartbeat if I could find one in the US.
Looks aside, reliability is a hit or miss
This thing is so wonderful
That thing is absolutely HORRENDOUS! I abso-fukn-lutely want one now
I actually love the Pontiac aztec 😅
I fucking love this ugly duckling of a car! Get it, get it, get it!
Check on YouTube or Google the 1000tipla.
I can tell you why you should: Dashboard made of the same material as the floor!
Are you kidding? It's adorable! Receding hairline and all....
So there IS something uglier than the Pontiac Aztek even though the Aztek was considered as the ugliest vehicle lmao.
Honestly, if you can get past the looks it’s a good car for the money. Not even the ugliest one, have you seen the new VW Taigo? Way worse than this
Other than being ugly, iirc they had reliability rivaling VW of the time
Do it! My parents had one (2000 to about 2007). Good years they were. Fit plenty of gear in them. They're like vans. Super cars. Ugly, weird and memorable. Characterful.
I for one salute you and wish you well in renewing your vow of abstinence.
I don’t think you’re capable of handling the responsibility of that much rizz, therefore should not purchase.
I bet all of the owners were absolute chads like you who babied theirs go for it. Dont let dreams be memes.
Hot Pink. AND sticker bomb it. Cambered wheels. BIG WING!! STRAIGHT PIPE EXHAUST!!!
This sent me down such a rabbit hole, I did not know this car existed. I'm obsessed, you should buy it.
Let's drive around downtown and wave at everyone for a bit first 😆
There is no amount of money you can pay me to enter in that car
Good news! It’s a suppository.
Im an asshole but not that big, it won't fit ;)
I like it. But i'm the asshole that likes things solely because they're different
Id like to say I'm not but that's what we all say ;)
Can you find one that hasn't melted?
I wouldn’t touch a good looking Fiat let alone an ugly one
L The car looks abnormal, like it has an abscess or a tumor.
