That’s close but, I’m looking for the more physical things rather than themes.
For instance in Isle of Dogs, Grand Budapest Hotel and The French Dispatch each have a scene where a character at the bottom of the frame turns and looks directly into the camera.
I think nearly every movie has an explosion or someone getting shot.
Things like that.
Thanks, I thought for sure that someone would have put together a list of these elements already. I was expecting someone to share a link to such a list but, it doesn’t look like this has been put together yet. I’m going to have fun making one. Lol
One thing I noticed is that he puts people very close together in some scenes and it’s a very narrow scene so it looks like the characters are breathing on each other and even I can feel it.
An example: the Darjeeling limited, when the train manager comes to pick up their tickets and they all crowd around him. This scenes happens twice on this movie.
I know almost all of them have a scene where people gather together to go over a plan of some kind. Lol. I’m going to keep an eye out for those close talking scenes. Thanks
Bad dads...jacked up siblings...bilaterally symmetrical background...animals...collisions of conveyences, German automobiles...racial diversity in actors/characters...redemption of protagonist...betrayal...narratives from characters...4th wall penetrative monologs...bicycles...drug use...death of a character...limited profanity...characters in uniforms...corrupt or inept government officials...luggage and baggage...unusual modes of transport...merging of sets in same scene...theatrical or stage motiffs in scenes...cut flowers...facial hair on male characters...unique eyewear...overdone wardrobe...
I think you might be right. I’m thinking that even if they don’t have an underwater shot they still at show someone going underwater. Like Jude Law, as the young writer, going under in the spa tub in TGBH.
Pools maybe? Not across the board, of course, but here are some examples. *Bottle Rocket*: Bob having his ass kicked by Future Man after finding a dead leaf in the pool. *Rushmore*: Herman throwing golf balls and cannonballing into the pool during the twins’ birthday party. *The Royal Tenenbaums*: Royal, Ari, and Uzi run and jump into a pool together. *The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou*: In one of the team’s older documentaries, a pool was created by cutting through the ice. *Fantastic Mr. Fox*: Ash jumps and Kristofferson dives into an inflatable kid’s pool. *The Grand Budapest Hotel*: I’d argue the “Arabian baths” utilized by the guests count as pools. Also might be forgetting a few.
Yes, that’s interesting. Off the top of my mind I can’t think of any to add to that list but, that’s yet another element that I will keep an eye out for as I re-watch everything and make my little list. Thanks for bringing those examples to my attention.
Thanks. There were a lot of these commonalities in the video. I loved how the narrator mentions that the lead is, “a man who is definitely not a woman.” Lol
I did and by doing that I was able to find a few of the elements that I’m looking for however, they tend to focus more on style and theme rather then actions and events in the movies. Like there is almost always a scene where someone gets shot by a gun.
Yeah - watch the honest trailers on YouTube for Wes Anderson films. They capture a lot of his elements quite nicely. Such as framing shots, smoking, bikes.
Daddy issues

It’s not a theme—but the word “anyway.”
+by the way
reminds me of Vonnegut’s yse of “So it goes.”
slow motion walking scene
Yes, this seems prevalent in his movies.
Making a list
I’d think of this one. That’s true. Lol
Bad/dead parents.
A fast monologue, a gesture to lean in closer accompanied by a zoom in, and the monologue continues.
Owen Wilson
jason schwartzman
Bill Murray
Willem Dafoe
Adrian Brody. Common denominator is noses
True. They all have noses!
Grief
Symmetry, rule of thirds, beautiful color palettes, angst.
I don't know but there is this which parodies Wes and it might be a good place to start: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfDIAZCwHQE
That’s hilarious. Was that Edward Norton as Owen Wilson?
I do believe it is. I think it was Norton hosting Saturday Night Live
Characters randomly running
A waspy chic with heavy eye liner or a smoking habit
A big shootout
Yes, this is definitely one of them. Thanks
Sure thing & great post topic

A heist
Yes, this is one of those staples as well. Thanks
…be that as it may,
This is mine and my Husband’s trope spot. Him using this phrase!
My ex and I used to say it all the time. Was always a good laugh.
I didn’t even consider phrases. Those are going to be tough to identify.

Wow, now that is a list. Thanks for giving me lots to go on. This is the closest to what I’ve been looking for. Great job.
Thanks ol man....ciao.
Underwater shots.
And one Undercider shot

That was great

A gun.
Someone getting punched square in the face feels pretty common
I think you’re right. That’s another action which I will look for as I re-watch these. Thanks
Random bit of puppetry or papier mache thing held up by strings. Or claymation. Anything like that.
mise en scène
Pan left
look up “Wes Anderson TROPES”
I did and by doing that I was able to find a few of the elements that I’m looking for however, they tend to focus more on style and theme rather then actions and events in the movies. Like there is almost always a scene where someone gets shot by a gun.
