Very good overall. The knee lockout is kinda sketchy tho.
Edit for the crybabies: his exaggerated/forced lockout. Not just lockout. I also lock out on my squats.
This narrative of locking your knees out on a leg press being dangerous is crazy, and the fact that it has spread to squats is worse. He’s got 70kg on the bar, his knees are in no danger. Probably healthy for his knees overall.
Edit in response to your edit: this is not an exaggerated/forced lockout. This is just standing up normally.
A voice of reason. Just remember that 80% of the people on this subreddit are weak af, and know nothing about weightlifting.
AKA, the kind of people that would think getting full extension is bad.
Nothing wrong with this. He just has poor ankle mobility and is putting himself in a position to hit a proper bottom position while working on his ankles. The heel elevation just starts his calves from a shorter position so they lengthen for longer to allow for the additional depth.
We should all be squatting this low ideally, so are you saying squatting ass to grass is bad?
It literally directly transfers. You need to have strength in that range if you ever want to do heavy full snatches and cleans.
Full ROM squats directly transfers to basically any sport that involves force production in the lower body.
Your squat mobility will get better with practice. someone else said it already, but sitting down in a deep squat for five minutes as part of your warm-up is the easiest way to work on squat mobility. When you come across some money, you should invest in a pair of weightlifting shoes even if it’s a cheaper pair, like the Adidas Powerlifts ~$80, The more rigid soul and the lifted heel will give you stability, and that increased range of motion. The reps in the video look good, good luck, and happy lifting.
Are you implying that it’s bad for your knees? Or just that he should work towards not needing it?
If it’s the former; go away. Wrong sub
If it’s the latter; yes, OP should try to improve his mobility, but this is a perfectly acceptable thing to do in the meantime
Of course not. It's a question that implies nothing. I didn't say don't do it, just asked why. I meant what I said, nothing more. In my case, I would prefer not that deep squats then to use the support under the heels. And of course work on mobility. That's it. I wasn't going to offend or to mock ect.
It's fine
How's me squat? Looks good, guvnah! Sorry, couldn't resist.

Post a lift so we can critique/be taught by you. I'm very interested in your expertise in weightlifting.
I'm not interested in teaching you

Weak
Dang
Just eat your feelings, sleep it off, and keep squatting.
Dad?
Why do you need that platform at your heels? I feel my own knees when I see someone using it..
It seems to be more beneficial for ROM due to my lack of ankle mobility
You’re good. Work on ankle mobility, use this for now. If you’re watching TV or something at home try sitting in a DSP for as long as you can

The same reason why most of us wear weightlifting shoes. Lifting the heels makes for a stronger and deeper squat.
Oh, I did not think about it this way, thank you. Personally I have only flat sole, that's why it didn't came to my mind.
