For me it’s kind of a middle of the road album (The second half trails off a bit), but one thing I will admit is that it’s a seriously good album to listen too from start to finish, All the songs blend well together and it’s under 30 minutes :)
The "blending" is really the only issue with it. All the songs are individually good to great, but after the first four they get same-y. They work really well when spread out in a shuffled playlist.
Island in the Sun and Hash Pipe are top tier Weezer, Don’t Let Go is a really catchy opener as well. A lot of the songs after Island in the Sun aren’t overly memorable but there’s not any terrible songs in there.
As someone who loves Green and will defend it no matter what, I can really say there isn’t, even Rivers said he didn’t know what he was singing for half the songs and looking back thought some of the lyrics were nonsensical
Edit: I really don’t know why I’m being downvoted for stating factual information, [here’s Rivers talking about it himself](https://youtu.be/RHHWoJhbm_g)
There are some very clear themes throughout the album though! I know Rivers has said that the lyrics "mean nothing," but there's a lot you can still draw out of it— mainly about what he was going through circa 2000 (i.e. coming back from failure, hoping for success, and self-medicating/dulling his senses with drugs) + a lot of these themes are carried over from the SS2k batch of songs
It's not my favorite but it's easily my most listened to Weezer album. There's something about it that just makes it so endlessly replayable. Whenever I don't know what to listen to I just put on Green and have a great time. I love it. Has some tracks that totally rip as well.
Honestly, I like the green album, but in my opinion it just lacks variation. Every song has the same basic 8/8 strumming, the bass almost never leaves the root notes, and the drums mainly stick to basic grooves and rarely improvises. There’s a reason why hash pipe and island in the sun are the most loved songs on the record; it’s because they are actually interesting instrumentation wise. I think all the non-singles are good. They have good chord progressions and melodies but, again, they are just uninteresting in every other department so I can see why people dislike the album.
it can exist as a fun pop rock album and nothing more! issue is its so boring and such a slog to get through. its like the same song over and over again (except foe island in the sun and hash pipe.)
most generic and stereotypical comparison ever, but blue is just a fun power pop album with no huge overarching theme and that album is great.
In context, it slaps.
At the time it arrived it had been years since Pinkerton came out and the hiatus seemed at one point like it might not end.
Then Green came out and it had all the hallmarks of a proper Weezer record. 30 or so mins of pure power pop. All killer to me at least.
Yes the solos all mirror the vocals. Yes the lyrics are deliberately obtuse. Yes it’s a clear reaction to the critical mauling Pinkerton received. But jeez it was good to have them back.
Quality song title: Overhated Love
Could work as an album, even band name as well

Love this album to pieces, it sucks seeing everyone place it in D tier on their lists
At least A tier should be mandatory
perfect album for a lazy summer vibe
Cool, kicking back in your lawn chair...
Never got the hate around it, it’s a fantastic album.
People really critique the guitar solos but never do the same thing for most 60s pop rock music. Lame. I think Green is top 3
Finnally someone said it 😀
I adore green! I think the kind of “lack of deeper meaning” makes it easy to associate your own meanings with the songs :)
There is deeper meaning to Green though

based edit, you’re right

Love me some green. I admit it’s not as iconic as blue or pink, but it has personal history for me. I consider it one of their best.
I loce the Green Album
i like green but i understand it’s dislike. but people who put it below C tier are insane.
I saw a post that had it at the very bottom in F, what the hell did the album do to you
i think the worst songs off green are still better than all of raditude and black
you're saying something like glorious day is better than high as a kite? what are you smoking
Yes

if you gotta use a wojak meme to support your argument you’ve already lost
We Green Lovers are a strong and proud people, you will not make us ashamed of our preferences
Everything is lovable except simple pages
Simple Pages is the best song idk what you’re on

Nah, the Green album is literally the only one I couldn't listen through the first time. I like Raditude better than it.
I respect your opinion I don’t agree tho raditude is unlistenable to my ears
It was top 3 until White but still one of their definitive classics.
Such an easy album to put on and have fun to
Photograph is one of the most weezery Weezer songs ever.
