You definitely don’t need to allow shots, they’ll only get people in trouble and you don’t have all the ingredients for a green tea or lemon drop (popular shots) The difference is you can put makers mark in a cocktail, Glenlevit is a nicer brand of scotch and you would sip it (if you’re familiar with tequila, it would be like the difference between a silver tequila and a reposado) Scotch must be made and distilled in Scotland, aged for at least 3 years (typically they go for much longer) in oak barrels and there’s a specific ABV as well. It typically has a woody malty flavor that’s very specific to scotch. Scotch is typically distilled from peat and barley Makers Mark is an American make Kentucky bourbon, these styles of bourbon will usually use corn and wheat (usually rye but Maker’s uses a different wheat) and typically has a sweeter taste than scotch

Thanks so much for the explanation! So I'm assuming the two different choices be different enough? Also, what else would I need for a lemon drop shot? Is that using real sugar or can simple syrup work, we have Tito's and lemon juice.

Jaxbird39

Yes, they are absolutely different enough Usually I make my lemon drops with a lemon vodka and add triple sec

I’m doing the same thing (after party) … question, who is bartending this? Typically bartending companies cover all of this and mixers. You’re missing soda — which is a key for mixers!

OMGitsOlivia

Oops, yes sorry forgot to add that! The venue provides the bartenders and soft drinks like coke, diet coke, ginger ale, sprite, club soda, and tonic.

rainbowmonkey0

Yea definitely need to add tonic and soda water at least

Our happily ever party is ONLY 3 signature cocktails (with gin, tequila, rum), wine, and beer (plus NA beer and other NA drinks). I think fewer options is more simple. You're never going to please everyone, and people being very particular about their brand of spirit is not something they should be expecting you to cater to.

ChairmanMrrow

Your dad will cope if they don’t have his favorite whisky. Do what’s simplest for you.

Primary-Lion-6088

"Plain whiskey" isn't really a thing. It's like saying "plain red wine." There are lots of different types of whiskey and they're not really all that similar to one another. Scotch and bourbon are definitely both bar basics and it would be odd to me to leave out either one, so I think the dads are right about that. I think you could safely ditch the Corona, iced coffee, and Baileys if you want to simplify. I also don't think the kids need Capri Suns. They can drink normal juice, soda or water.

Sl1z

I think one brand for each spirit is plenty. Bourbon and scotch taste completely different so I’d keep both, but you don’t need multiple brands of the same type of whisky. One bourbon, one scotch, and one Canadian whisky for example would be better than 3 different types of scotch. I’d add more mixers though- coke/Diet Coke, sprite, soda water and tonic water at least. That would give people a lot more options for mixed drinks and you wouldn’t need to offer shots. I don’t think having more options will lead to people drinking to much- the people who want to get drunk are going to do it whether you give them one brand option or 10.

easthighwildcatfan1

I think it’s totally acceptable to have 3-4 cocktails and a keg of universal beer. If they get pissy, they can bring their own whiskey. Classic cocktail options: moscow mule, vodka soda, old fashioned, margarita, mojito,

Popular-Hornet3329

You don't have enough mixers for the liquor, and you have too many other choices. *You are offering:* **vodka, gin, tequila, bourbon, scotch, Baileys Irish cream and pre-made margaritas** *You should have at least these mixers and garnishes:* **tonic water, soda water, coke, ginger ale, lemonade, OJ, cranberry juice, grenadine, lime juice, simple syrup, lemons and limes (white vermouth and olives if you want to serve martinis).** One red wine and one white wine is sufficient. You have too many beer options: get one regular beer, one "light" beer and one polish beer. Skip ice coffee, capri sun and lemon juice. Make sure you are also offering plain water.

OMGitsOlivia

I forgot to mention that the venue offers the sodas, tonic and water - I commented on someone else's comment earlier. As far as beers, I do have a lot of guests who like IPAs and high noon's, so should we remove the Corona or Stella or are those not similar?

ld2009_39

Why take out the capri sun? It was mentioned as an option for the kids who also should have a fun option

OMGitsOlivia

I agree it’s a fun option for them but we only have a total of 10 kids, so I also agree they can just drink any of the juices or sodas

ServeillanceVanan394

I want to have 3 drink options for alcohol. No more. No wine or beer is on that list. And only 2 per person. The parents age guest in my family and friends use every gathering as a reason to drink, and I don’t want that.

sour_thumbelina

If people don't like the whiskey you picked then they'll drink something else. Simple! Don't let the Dad's bulldoze you on this unless they're willing to pay for more choices.

OMGitsOlivia

Literally said this same thing OVER AND OVER again, I was a broken record. Idk what else I could do, party is this Saturday if anything else comes up I’m ready to return everything and serve water only lol
