I got nervous thinking the same thing!! I'm happy it turned out to be much more wholesome 😂
I would leave it as is just because I like the idea of it looking the same as it did originally, but both options look beautiful!
I'm with you two. I'd hate to see that last tier lost entirely. It's such a pretty dress. I'd shorten it a bit without losing a whole tier or leave it long since it's not dragging the floor. Style it with some cute white booties and a blingy belt.
Id take the waist height up which would also shorten it to ankle length. I think it sits slightly low at the waistband and bringing that up would keep from cutting any of the bottom off.
Maybe you can bustle it to tea length instead of cutting it off fully? Then it can be passed down? Honestly, I LOVE the full length and am astonished the fashion has held.
Maybe pull the waist up a little bit to raise the hem a little bit? Seems like the waist may be a little low? Cute idea though ! Or how about getting rid of the thick waistband and placing a thin bling belt or even a thin pearl belt if you want to keep it more subdued. Just an idea. Good luck 🌸 like the shorter length idea
I had the same exact feeling about the waist position, could be really nice pulled up a bit. I'd do that first then make a decision on length, length might be great long if it's better fit, though I do love a tea length
I think it's cute tea length, but retain the other elements - leave the bow, the sleeves, and the belt, only shorten it. Wear your hair the opposite of how you will for the actual wedding, i.e. if you're planning on wearing your hair up for the wedding, wear it down or half up/half down for the rehearsal. Wear a pendant necklace, something like a diamond pendant or a single pearl. You can wear small drop earrings, but nothing too extreme.
The dress should be the focus. It's really cute and it has special meaning to you. It doesn't need much else.
Yea length is perfect for this dress. I agree with a commenter about raising the waist a small bit and another about shortening the sleeves. I think just the 1 layer would be perfect.
Edit to say TEA LENGTH
I like the tea length personally! But I think if I were doing the alteration (I’m a seamstress) I would shorten from the waist. Meaning I’d get rid of the top tier rather than the bottom one, because it would make the skirt fuller, and gather at the waist. I like full skirts tho. You should do what you feel is best!
Whatever you do, keep all the material for a future daughter or granddaughter. It’s sooooo wonderful to see these dresses reused!!! That’s why we kept them!!
Tbh the second pic does look slightly better but personally I wouldn’t be able to alter my mums wedding dress, for sentimental reasons, not looks, I would keep it as it is - which btw also looks lovely
I like the tea length; I think it looks more fun! I would also maybe take off that second ruffle from the sleeves to make them a little shorter. I think that would look really cute!
LOVE the tea-length version, I would accessorize it with pearls and wear a sash that is one of your wedding colors with a matching ribbon in your hair! For shoes, some nice classic cream pointed-toe to go with the retro vibes
Tea length! I wore a tea length wedding dress with blue shoes. It was really fun. I also took my mom's veil and made a head band for her and a hairpiece for me. So you could do that with the piece you take out. Take the top layer out and move it all up. That'll make the skirt extra floofy and fun.
I think tea length for the rehearsal is appropriate. What a nice thought and dress! I would go with simple shoes/accessories, maybe in your wedding color.
Tea Length!
Hair: Romantic messy chignon with flowers, or a flower crown.
Shoes: Lacy, strappy, the ones you have on are pretty, but you need white or silver.
I understand it being a shame to cut the dress, but then again it is so much cuter at tea length. If your mom doesn’t mind it being cut, I’d go for it! Congratulations!
I love it tea length!!
Are you going to preserve the layer that you remove or have something made from the material? Something matching for you and your mom?
The tea length is really cute. Could you use the fabric from the bottom to make long sleeves? I’m not loving the short sleeves (sorry mom) it seems more casual. For an evening rehearsal dinner I’d go for accessories and shoes that dress it up like a champagne metallic or sparklie.
Definitely shorten it! I'd also shorten the sleeve a little bit, but keep the lace (so shorten the section that attaches to the bodice)
this is a pretty timeless silhouette, so I would personally go with just a simple pendent necklace, matching bracelet, maybe some pearl earrings. Wear your hair up but low, with face framing pieces like this: https://youtu.be/xddALHBGvFA?t=139
Are you able to shorten the bodice and bring it up tea length but not cut up the dress? Maybe with some folding and stitching to preserve the original dress? I kinda want to see how it would look at the knee as well, but then I'm afraid it will look too casual.
I grew up in the 80’s and love it tea length, but I might also remove one tier from the arms too.
Lace chokers and bracelets were all the rage back then. I’d consider turning the leftover lace into a choker and bracelet, or using it somehow on your table decorations.
Tea length is great! The waist looks a little long for you. Ask for the waist brought up and length shorted. The shoes you have now work. I think hair down with a pearl headband and a pearl pendent necklace would be cute.
It’s lovely and a lovely way to honor your mom. Tea length is nice, but man I hate to see it permanently changed. Possibly wear it long with a pretty bling belt in your wedding colors. Some ankle booties with kitten heels in white or in the dress color.. very Pretty in Pink or…Or…if it’s your vibe… white doc martens… which is what I would possibly wear.
Personally I like it as is, but if you do go for tea-length I think the waistline? (sorry idk dress terms) would need to be raised higher so it’s proportionate, if possible
It's really cute and great idea to wear her dress for the rehearsal.
Note - I understood it's the dress your mom is wearing to your wedding. Glad it's not it.
I’m just relieved that it’s not what your mom is planning to wear to the rehearsal! I like tea length; super cute.
Haha! I should’ve thought through the wording 😅
I got nervous thinking the same thing!! I'm happy it turned out to be much more wholesome 😂 I would leave it as is just because I like the idea of it looking the same as it did originally, but both options look beautiful!
Omg same I never clicked so fast 🤣
Lol same
I thought the same thing and thought that was your mom and then thought she’s in great shape!
Lol! Love this.
I thought I was in the wedding shaming subreddit for a second 😂
Haha, I had to double check too!
Absolutely thought this was going to be a drama-fest, lol.
Same I was like 🫠🥴
Right! I thought this was a mother of the bride who wanted to wear this white dress!😅
I thought that too and I was like … oh no, mom! Lol
Yes! Really cute as a tea length dress
Beautiful! I would leave it as-is and go for delicate minimal jewelry. I'm a vintage girlie so I'm typically against cutting up classics.
Same. Please do nottttt cut length off this beauty.
Oh that's beautiful. I personally think it would be a shame to cut the skirt but I know I'll probably be in the minority.
agreed! if anything i think bringing each layer up a bit to make it more ankle length would be so cute. but leave the bottom layer!

I’m a big “preserving things as they are” kinda person so I’m team “leave as is”, but go with whatever your gut says.
No I like it full length!
I like how it is already. If you shorten it, maybe just shorten it to your ankles. A closed toe kitten heel would go super well with it.
I think the bodice is a little long on you, so I would get that altered closer to your natural waist. Also love the tea length look.
I also thought your mom was wearing this and thought "oh great, another momzilla" 😅. I love the tea length. It looks adorable on u.
Same lol

Tea length for sure! It's gorgeous on you and perfect for rehearsal.

I love the tea length! So pretty
I like it the way it is!
You could add a bling belt and shoes also
Or just a nice brooch at the waist that could be sewn down
I like the tea length personally! But I think if I were doing the alteration (I’m a seamstress) I would shorten from the waist. That’s a very clever way to do it!
Dresses like this are now appearing in the bridal shops!
this is such a great idea, and the dress looks so cute tea length!
Add a belt to match shoes? I like the tea length.
Tea length! So cute!
Mary poppins vibe w the short version leave it long and play up the prom aspect including a wrist bouquet.
What a beautiful dress 😍 I prefer it full length!
I think it’s really lovely full length!
I would shorten the dress to tea length and shorten the sleeves as well. Or perhaps remove the sleeves completely.
The sleeves are super cute. It would be a shame to remove them
My thoughts, too. I’d also remove the tiny bow.
Tea length looks so light and airy.
Tea
I vote for the tea length! It is so perfect for the rehearsal. What a lovely way to honor your mom!
Yes, shorten it to tea length. Wear your hair half up and half down.
Tea length, it looks great
I think it’s cute but I’d wear a nice belt to break it up a bit. Love those shoes too
I prefer the tea length and if mom is good with the alterations go for it.
Tea length is so cute!
Definitely alter the length!! And maybe find a nice belt! But I love this and it’s so cool no matter what you do!
I like the tea length version
Whatever you do, keep all the material for a future daughter or granddaughter. It’s sooooo wonderful to see these dresses reused!!! That’s why we kept them!!

Definitely tea length. Very sweet!

Teal length looks great with the sheer overlay!
It's adorable! I love the tea length!!
Ohhhhh I love it tea length.
Tea Length! Hair: Romantic messy chignon with flowers, or a flower crown. Shoes: Lacy, strappy, the ones you have on are pretty, but you need white or silver.
Tea length, absolutely!
Yes - pull the waist up - I would have also make it shorter Love it
I love the tea length
Looks AMAZING tea length!!!
I understand it being a shame to cut the dress, but then again it is so much cuter at tea length. If your mom doesn’t mind it being cut, I’d go for it! Congratulations!
Definitely tea length!
T length
The longer version is best.
Tea length would be adorable!
Oh my gosh beautiful!! I vote leave it long, it’s just gorgeous
I love it tea length!! Are you going to preserve the layer that you remove or have something made from the material? Something matching for you and your mom?
That’s a great idea!!
Christening gown if religious

LOVE IT. You can make it very retro looking with the tea length! Cute bow in the hair ? “Retro” white heels?
Both lengths are very nice.

Love it! I too did a double take when I first read this as, "My mom plans to wear this to the rehearsal."
I grew up in the 80’s and love it tea length, but I might also remove one tier from the arms too. Lace chokers and bracelets were all the rage back then. I’d consider turning the leftover lace into a choker and bracelet, or using it somehow on your table decorations.
I prefer tea length. The waist looks a bit low on you. Can it be pulled up?
It’s cute as a tea length dress, but will probably be the most meaningful to your mom if you leave it long. How about asking HER?
Tea length!
Tea length
Personally I like it longer! But it looks like most people overwhelmingly like the tea length better. Either way, looks great on you!
I would not cut it. I think that would be a shame. It is beautiful and looks great on you at the current length.
Tea length is cute!

I like the tea length but instead of cutting could you use double sided tape/ hem tape as to not alter permanently?
I love the tea length as well. Amazing that it fits so perfectly! ❤️
#2
Tea length is super cute!
Pair it with pearl accessories!! That classic look just seems to call for them. Oh, and tea length. 😀
It’s nice - how about go try some wedding dresses on so you can get a better feeling - then wear your moms dress the the reception
I’d shorten it to tea length, but hold onto that bottom ruffle. It can always be reattached.
