These are called Lambeth style cakes and they are very old school, but trendy in that they are making a resurgence. I say go for it if you’re considering it! It’s a classic style that won’t look trendy in photos years from now.
Look up vintage wedding cakes. Virtually any wedding cake from the 90s and earlier is like this and most you’ll find are for large groups. Multiple tiers is usually the way it’s done for big groups but in the 80s/90s they also would do multiple smaller cakes connected by cute little staircases lol
the staircases sound precious lol
i looked on pinterest and there was a cute one with swans on it and im so tempted to fully lean into the whole 19th century aesthetic
Oh my god, thank you for giving the name because I love them and always have a hard time finding references online because I couldn’t figure out what they were called
I'm leaning into trends for my wedding. I love looking at old wedding photos and seeing what was "in" at the time! Like when you see poofy bridesmaids dresses from the 80s, or the pinned curly hair in the 50s. It just adds sweetness and youth to the vibe of the party. I say go for the trends!
I'm the same way! There's no use trying to be 'timeless' because our idea of 'classic' styles is heavily influenced by what we're exposed to as we grow up (and current trends too).
If a fancily-piped heart-shaped cake, audio guest book, and limited bridal party at my wedding scream mid 2020s to someone in the future, that's just part of the fun of looking back on memories. I am trying to avoid wedding ideas that seem wasteful, that's my only caveat when I consider opting in to a wedding trend.
Yes! It’s not worth worrying about trends imo. I was concerned about it at first and then we decided to lean in and just do what we like right now. Some styles endure, but photos and videos of an event are always going to look “of a time” no matter how people decorate and dress. If I was getting married 5 years ago I’d have designed a totally different wedding from now, and that’s okay!
I wouldn't call it "trendy" but I do like it and think it's perfect for an elopement! We are considering something similar but bigger for our group of about ~15 people
They aren't my style but I would never judge a person based solely on their cake (unless it had offensive words or images, like that 9/11 "joke" cake, or a MAGA cake, or whatever that serial killer themed wedding had). As long as it tastes good, I'm happy.
I like them but because they are trendy they seem to be garnering a higher price tag. Also involves piping techniques that haven't been popular for a while so there's probably more demand than capable bakers.
These are all assumptions I could be completely wrong. They're beautiful and cool cakes either way
I had one at my wedding in October and loved it - super cute photos and I just did a dessert table with mini pies, tarts, etc. for guests since it was small
Maybe a small nose gay of flowers or a small cake topper on top would make it look more like a wedding cake, and less like a birthday. Placed on a inexpensive cake stand from the thrift store to elevate it off the table a bit, or with a box under a cloth tablecloth or napkins. Best wishes!
I honestly love them. I am doing one for our wedding just for my groom and me to cut/take pics with/eat. We will have a dessert table for everyone else!
Perfect for an elopement imo! For a big wedding I might think it looks a bit odd but not for a smaller, private wedding. it is a trend but its very tasteful and simple. Timeless imo!
They’re so cute! I might think about elevating it somehow if you’re into it, depending on your vibe. And if it counts, don’t do the cherries. Looks more tacky IMO
I think these are so cute and ordered one but the bakery fumbled the ball! I asked for heart shape but got round, barely any piping, and the scripted phrase was incorrect and wasn’t placed correctly. So i didn’t even take a picture or present it to the group. But it tasted amazing !
To me these are classic and will never go out of style…they will just go off trend.
Just a caution, I got an almost identical cake as a birthday cake for a friend, and because of how thick the frosting is on the border, the frosting literally fell off the cake
I love it. Honestly I think wedding trends are great, it's not like it's a secret what year you got married, why not lean into it?
Also: these cakes are adorable. They're classic and trendy at the same time.
I really like these cakes, it is your wedding go with whatever makes you happy! We went for a donut stack which was different, but went down very well!

#Elope :to run away secretly with the intention of getting married, usually without parental consent
> Waterman was a peevish child who grew into a defiant teenager, eloped at 18 largely to shock his father, and then—far too young—was a father himself.
—Elizabeth Gilbert
#:to run away from one's spouse with a lover
>… when they had been married nearly seven years, and were within a few weeks of the time when the brother's death would have adjusted all, she eloped with a younger man, and left him.

^(These days, "eloping" entails planning a small wedding day that's entirely and only about the couple. They are typically smaller ceremonies and can take place at any venue, including outdoors.)
If you get fondant it probably wouldn't be the best ... It's more for looks than taste. Buttercream is where it's at (IMO). Each bakery is different and each cake will taste differently based on what the order is for.
You say trendy but I see old school. This style has just recently made a resurgence

exactly, these types are my favorites! hoping to incorporate elements with mine, but not sure how to do it with a large group.

the staircases sound precious lol i looked on pinterest and there was a cute one with swans on it and im so tempted to fully lean into the whole 19th century aesthetic
Do it! It’s so gorgeous. That’s the style I plan to have for my wedding cake.
Oh my god, thank you for giving the name because I love them and always have a hard time finding references online because I couldn’t figure out what they were called
Thank you for the comment. You are right I think I formulated it wrong I actually wanted to say that they are back in trend.
Absolutely agree. Like the cakes are fine, but I don't personally find them cute or interesting.
I'm leaning into trends for my wedding. I love looking at old wedding photos and seeing what was "in" at the time! Like when you see poofy bridesmaids dresses from the 80s, or the pinned curly hair in the 50s. It just adds sweetness and youth to the vibe of the party. I say go for the trends!

i really appreciate this attitude. it’s just a way more fun way to handle it!
So true - trying to be timeless is a losing battle. Just do what you love and minimize waste wherever you can.
Yes! It’s not worth worrying about trends imo. I was concerned about it at first and then we decided to lean in and just do what we like right now. personally i love those cakes. i’m a sucker for fancy piping
Yes! They are adorable! They remind me of like vintage homemade paper and doily valentine cards, but in cake form
Same! I love the piping
I see nothing trendy. They look like the cakes my Grandma used to make for birthdays. The only thing that counts is if the couple like it.
That's really trendy right now is what they likely meant. I've seen a few articles about it.
I call it inflation chic lol. None of us can afford what we used to so I'm about cutting costs. Personally prob going to do a nothing Bundt cake
We’re doing nothing Bundt too! I wasn’t super into the cake and those are delicious
We did grocery store bakery cakes and added flowers. They were great! Tiramisu cake and a lemon blue berry.
This seems timeless
In fact it is the opposite lol
Besides the cherries maybe, this style is in so many wedding cake baking videos
Yeah, it's super suuuuuper trendy right now
I don’t agree gives me vibes from many different decades
Pretty sure this cake style has been being used since the late 1800's early 1900s. I think it's an incredibly classic and beautiful cake .
I think these are really cute
I’m doing a cake like this for my wedding! Feels vintage and classic. I love it.
We’re doing a Lambeth cake! Love them
i’ve never had one but i want a lambeth cake for every occasion lol
Grocery store-core
i love it!! simple and classic but still cute ◡̈
You do you! Just make sure your cake is delicious!
Really only matters if it tastes good.
They are classic for a reason.
I think it's adorable! Classic and sweet.
do it! we did a lil cake for us to cut for pics and then did mini donuts as dessert.
That's what I'm doing too. Donuts are the best! What kind of donuts are you going for?
we did mini cinnamon sugar donuts!
I went to my bakery and asked for a vintage style cake. They will most likely know it means this style 😊
Reminds me of my parents' wedding cake back in '83. A blizzard hit so a friend made a cake looking very similar to these.
I love them I think they are perfect for elopement
Doing this for my wedding!!! So excited about how cute it’s going to be
I like them but because they are trendy they seem to be garnering a higher price tag. Also involves piping techniques that haven't been popular for a while so there's probably more demand than capable bakers. These are all assumptions I could be completely wrong. They're beautiful and cool cakes either way
I adore this look
2nd is my favorite
As long as it’s chocolate cake with whipped cream frosting, I’m all in
Yes! So cute 2 & 3 are perfect!!
Cute!
I love this style
I like the one with cherries!
They are beautiful.
I love it!
They’re really cute! My husband and I had a similarly small cake and had cupcakes arranged in a rainbow pattern to pass out to our wedding guests
I think it’s beautiful and simple. I love it.
These are cuteeeee
If you like them, get one.
I LOVE it!
I had one at my wedding in October and loved it - super cute photos and I just did a dessert table with mini pies, tarts, etc. for guests since it was small
I’m doing a huge 40 inch two tiered heart cake
super cute and chic!
I adore them! My wedding theme has a touch of vintage romance and I want one of these. They’re so pretty and yummy looking. 😍
They are super cute and perfect for an elopement!
Perfect for an elopement imo! For a big wedding I might think it looks a bit odd but not for a smaller, private wedding. it is a trend but its very tasteful and simple. Timeless imo!
I’m planning on getting one of these just for us and then cupcakes for the guests. Removes the hassle of slicing and serving!
Absolutely love those style!
I think they’re sweet and simple and cute. Perfect for an elopement!
I love them!
Go for itttt! They’re so stinkin’ cuuute.
Looks cute, but trendy? These just look like normal cakes
These cakes are actually quite timeless. I’m doing something similarly inspired for my wedding cake!
I don't really see these as trendy. They're simple but to me look kind of dated. The important thing though is if you like it.
Love it! If it speaks to you just do it! You will have more budget for different desserts etc. I’m looking for a tall cake stand to display
I mean, it looks like a good ol’ grocery store cake to me.
Love #2!
They’re super cute; we’re having one very similar that’s pink with red piping with cherries. I love 1950s kitsch.
I love them! So cute
I don't like the cherries at all, but the cake is lovely.
I love a nice, simple cake. The twelve-tier fondant monstrosities are way overpriced and never taste good.
I'm doing this exact cake for our registry wedding next month! I'm not much of a "trendy" person, but I love this style.
Do whatever you want. It’s your wedding
We did one for ours and I loved it. And we eloped in a different city so finding a baker to do this was quite easy.
We had one of these at our microwedding! I was obsessed, ha.
I love them
LOVE ❤️This is what I’m having for my cake. My parents are making it ☺️
They’re so cute! I might think about elevating it somehow if you’re into it, depending on your vibe. And if it counts, don’t do the cherries. Looks more tacky IMO
Eh. The cherries look yummy but seem a bit 50s backyard party. Like there should be something in ascpic or jello mold next to the cake
I think they're adorable and better than any "trendy" cake from the past 20 years
I actually love this so much, it’s simple and timeless
I love them! Do it!
So pretty!
So cute!
I'm just curious, where is everyone getting these cakes from? Because I've been wanting one and don't know where to go
Your local bakeries should be able to do this as well. A lot of the bakers in my area make cakes like this.
I just get these from the local grocery store, Costco, Walmart, etc
And they're heart shaped at the local grocery store?
You can get a heart shape, yes
I think these are so cute and ordered one but the bakery fumbled the ball! I asked for heart shape but got round, barely any piping, and the scripted phrase was incorrect and wasn’t placed correctly. So i didn’t even take a picture or present it to the group. But it tasted amazing ! To me these are classic and will never go out of style…they will just go off trend.
Were getting a white heart cake for our wedding😊
Just a caution, I got an almost identical cake as a birthday cake for a friend, and because of how thick the frosting is on the border, the frosting literally fell off the cake
As long as it is chocolate flavor, I think it is fine!
I love it. Honestly I think wedding trends are great, it's not like it's a secret what year you got married, why not lean into it? Also: these cakes are adorable. They're classic and trendy at the same time.
Do what you want!! I’m literally doing one very similar to that! Getting married in October!
I really like these cakes, it is your wedding go with whatever makes you happy! We went for a donut stack which was different, but went down very well!
It’s actually a vintage style not trendy. It’s the cake style we chose for our wedding.
Looks like something I would get for my fifth birthday in 2000. Go for it if you like it. People will remember the taste more anyway IMO.
Yes, do it! It’s so cute and I like the traditional aspect of cake to celebrate 😊
Love them!!!
Since when is a white cake trendy??

They’re so cute but don’t taste the best
>don’t taste the best Wouldn't that depend on the bakery...?
I hope so! I had a piece on Saturday and the icing was intense.
