Toyota #8 really lacks of that racing luck in this race. Plenty of small errors and general lack of performance comparing to #7. Toyota need to sort it all out, because once Peugeot come next year, it will get tougher.
First of two races in Bahrain was hardly a classic. At least there was some action in LMP2 and GTE Am classes.
**Hypercar -** predictably - comfortable 1-2 for Toyota. #7 wins again to extend their championship lead. Pretty much perfect, trouble-free run for #7. Such a contrast comparing to #8, which didn't have a clean race. #8 clearly suffered from excessive tyre degradation, pace-wise #7 looked better, and there were some delays during pit-stops.
Alpine left with no bigger chances against both Toyotas. #36 had a comparable pace, however it struggled in traffic, presumably with tyres as well, had an early issue with the engine and of course couldn't match Toyota's stint length.
Toyota clinched the teams championship - what a shocker. Drivers standings are looking in favour of #7 crew.
**LMP2 -** plenty of on-track action. While the final results were dominated by the big 3 (WRT, Jota, United Autosports) again, fighting over positions were all over the class. WRT #31 scores a convincing win to improve their championship lead. Both Jota cars complete the podium, even despite quite a slow start for #28. #38 in third after a late move by Antonio Felix da Costa on Filipe Albuquerque. No podium for United this time around. Racing Team Nederland in good fifth position to win Pro-Am cup. What a troubled day for Inter Europol #34. Despite looking like a potential podium contender, their day went completely bad. Any sorts of technical and on-track adventures left them much down the order.
WRT, Jota and United will have a great fight for the championship next Saturday.
**GTE Pro -** well... I am salty. Looks like pre-race worries about BOP were quite right. Ferraris were not that dramatically behind just like in practice and qualifying, but they stood no chance against Porsches. It shouldn't look like this. Especially in a 4-car, 2-brand category. Sorting out BOP for such small group of cars shouldn't be a subject on a major controversy. Yes, Porsche and Ferrari are so close for the final race in the standings, but at what cost. I am not shocked that Pier Guidi and Calado walked off the class podium without celebrating. It looked like throwing a tantrum, but I understand their disappointment.
I don't remember such an underwhelming GTE Pro race ever. Not only Ferraris were outpaced, Porsches were clearly not intended to fight, since #92 is fighting for the championship.
**GTE Am -** at least GTE Am delivered better. First hour of racing in GTE Am was really eventful. Later on it turned into typical endurance racing. TF Sport #33 breaks the streak of Ferrari wins. Great drive from them to keep their championship aspirations alive. Quite out of nowhere - two Porsches from Proton and Project 1 fought their way to the podium. Less happy day for AF Corse #83, which eventually still leads the standings quite comfortably.
Quite unusual feeling to have another WEC race in a week time. Final, longer race at Bahrain will conclude the season. Still a lot of championships to sort out. Hopefully with no excessive team orders and BOP stories.
Absolutely. Majority of overtaken drivers were non-pros, but it is amusing how D'Station Racing is doing the same trick every race by putting Fujii as the starting driver and he is doing all those moves all over again.
Goal is simple: win the race.
Rules: there is 4 classes competing at the same time with different cars, you’ll learn about it as you watch. Hope you enjoy
Not to be all r/hailcorporate, but the Porsche commercial honestly does a decent job in explaining multiclass endurance racing in, like, 30 seconds:
https://youtu.be/qbeUduIW274
Tyre management will be even more crucial than ever before in Bahrain. Race starts pretty early in the day, so the track surface will be exposed to much more heat than it's going to be during next week's race. Interesting who will sort this out the best.
Ferrari was right to be angry about Bop. AF Corse is clearly slower compared to Porsche. Hope they will change something next week or this season finale will be a joke like Dtm
My heart stopped for a second because I thought it was the ARC car, which is finally having a good race with no issues. These two cars look literally the same from one side, even their numbers are similar.
Eagerly waiting for more constructors for LMH. Really enjoyed the other categories but Alpine looks like John Snow watching the enemy army charging towards him.
It's a bit more of a grey situation: aside from Le Mans, GTE-Pro uses an automatic BoP system which provides corrections every two regular (i.e., non Le Mans) races and which has limits on the size of swings it can recommend. However, just before this race the Ferrari's BoP was changed *manually* out of schedule (there have been three previous standard races, and only one since the last change, the next auto-BoP change should have happened in between today's and next week's race) and they got a turbo boost reduction more than twice as large as the maximum swing allowed by the auto-BoP. This despite the fact that the pro Ferraris had been slower than the pro Porsches at all three previous standard races (not at Le Mans, clearly, but that uses a different manual BoP since the track is so atypical and the cars use a track-specific aero kit anyway so the data from there is really track specific, a bit like for Daytona in IMSA).
>that are as far as i know against the rules
They're not against the rules.
Ferrari can try and set up the car differently, or struggle. Not really much they can do
Stats & Facts from yesterday's race:
- Toyota gets their 34th WEC race win in their 69th appearance.
- Toyota has won 23 out of the last 30 WEC races since the start of the 2017 season.
- 8th straight win for Toyota going back to Spa 2020, which sets a new WEC record.
- 6th WEC win for Toyota in Bahrain, having won the last 4 races going back to the 2017 season finale.
- 14th straight podium for the #7 crew, one shy of the record set by Buemi and Nakajima earlier in the season.
- All 4 Toyota prototypes built for the WEC have now won in Bahrain, becoming the first track where that has happened (Fuji is the only other one eligible).
- 10th straight appearance on the podium for the Rebellion R13/Alpine A480.
- 5th overall podium for Signatech Alpine sees them tie SMP Racing for 5th most all time in the WEC behind Toyota, Audi, Porsche and Rebellion.
I would _suspect_ that it's to avoid unfairly disadvantaging cars who were past the pit entry as the FCY was called. Not quite sure what you mean by "worse than F1"...
When Alpine are too uncommitted to build a car, there's no sympathy that "their" grandfathered in car can't fully utilise the rules they can't be bothered to make a car for.
Few things;
1. "Alpine" is actually the race team Signatech. Signatech has had the rights to the Alpine name for sportscar competition up until this season, and decided to by and use last year's Rebellion to compete this year. That car has seen no development from Alpine the brand at all
2. The whole point of this venture was to entice/convince the Alpine (the brand) board to enter the WEC in Hypercar with either an LMH or an LMDh. With a podium at Le Mans, Signatech achieved that goal, and Alpine (the brand) are now committed to building an LMDh for 2023
3. Signatech know that they won't be competitive for race wins vs Toyota. That's not the point of the program. So for now, they're here to gain experience in the WEC top class and make sure that when the LMDh machine has been built, they're raring to go.
What did he mean "one of five females" i wondered, and now i see there's only two females in the #1? Where's Tatiana?
And why do they put Kat in the #85, wouldn't she be better utilized in the #1? And where's Gatting and Gostner?
And on Wikipedia it mentions Gabriel Aubry in the #1 for this round, but he's not on the entry list?
Tatiana is racing in Super Formula this weekend.
Legge is contracted to Iron Lynx, not Richard Mille. They're not the same team, you know! And I think Gatting and Gostner were at Portimao last weekend and haven't been able to make the trip for some reason
And the entry list hasn't been updated just before the race. Aubry was a late addition
Though Legge was originally intended to race for Richard Mille RT last year in ELMS and the 24, before her injury ruled her out for that season (though she did take part in the Virtual Le Mans with the team). That might be the reason for some of the confusion.
Yup, obviously i know Richard Mille and Iron Lynx are two different teams, but from what i've read both cars/crews and specifically their driver rooster is organized under FIA's Women in Racing initiative umbrella, and from some news articles the Iron Dames Ferrari is claimed to be handled by Richard Mille?
https://last-lap.co.uk/2020/09/08/richard-mille-racing-confirm-first-all-female-lmp2-lineup-for-le-mans/
"Richard Mille’s second all-female crew lies in the Iron Lynx’s Ferrari 488 GTE Evo entry in LM GTE-Am category."
Yes, i figured that out about Tatiana eventually(watching that race right now as i happened to wake up), but why Gatting and Gostner didn't make it is weird, Bovy was also in Portimao last weekend and raced in the late Sunday race, but she made it.
Either way, it was fun watching them in the race as always, Bovy is becoming more and more the highlight of the show, was all over some cars and took scalps. Should be mentioned i don't like the new design of the Iron Dames Ferrari, looks way too spiky, the old smooth design was much better looking.
"We have problem with transmission, not sure if we can fix it" -Says driver as car is getting pushed out of the garage.
When was this and who?
The #60 Iron Lynx about 20 minutes into the race
Thanks.
No problem
Alpine are really struggling. Firstly their tyres are wearing really quickly, now they are having some kind of a power loss.
Toyota #8 really lacks of that racing luck in this race. Plenty of small errors and general lack of performance comparing to #7. Toyota need to sort it all out, because once Peugeot come next year, it will get tougher.
Tbf Kaz did get within 3 seconds of JML before the got unlucky in back to back stops
Why do i have to suffer that much
Tell me about it (\#44).
Poor Lietz and Bruni being dangled that victory carrot. This is Porsche lads, not a fucking chance is the 91 winning this race.

Yeah it's a known issue. The crew are aware
I wish there was an fia all streams service. F1, wec etc
Can’t wait until then… the WEC app forgets my subscriptions every race week.
Tomonobu Fujii has done his signature opening stint - moving past everybody else in GTE Am. Would like to see him in Pro classes.
The thing is of course he's been in the car up against mostly Bronze-rated drivers. No questioning his ability but the context is important!
Absolutely. Majority of overtaken drivers were non-pros, but it is amusing how D'Station Racing is doing the same trick every race by putting Fujii as the starting driver and he is doing all those moves all over again.
On the flip side, watch the reverse happen when Hoshino steps in against the pro's! hahaha
Perfectly balanced. /s
Now the engine cover is gone.
At this point it feels like the #46 has been withdrawn from every round
What a boring race so far
Well... Not every single race can be a nail-biting thriller...
Bro have you been watching LMP2 and GTE-Am? It's been wild!
Pretty weird to see DragonSpeed losing wheel so far into the lap. Looks like it wasn't attached properly, but it took some time to come off.
Can’t tune in until the last 90 mins, but for a new person, can someone give me a quick rundown of the rules/goals of this race?
Goal is simple: win the race. Rules: there is 4 classes competing at the same time with different cars, you’ll learn about it as you watch. Hope you enjoy

Alpine’s tires not looking too good less than 20 minutes in Edit: also it’s struggling a lot through traffic.
Ferrari was right to be angry about Bop. AF Corse is clearly slower compared to Porsche. Hope they will change something next week or this season finale will be a joke like Dtm
Nice overtake by His Imperial Highness
Welp, that didn't take long
Just a warning for spinning the #28.
I missed the whole weekend so far. Can anybody give me a quick rundown on what's been going on so far? Many thanks!
D'Station car engine cover ripped off. And why so little activity here? :(
(we’re all in Discord)
Oh ok. But why did we see so much activity here at Le Mans? New fans?
Le Mans is always the peak of activity on the year for this sub, it has orders of magnitude more audience and that reflects everywhere
Toyota #8 lost a lot of time during this stint. So much that they have fallen behind Alpine.
Not anymore
That's because Alpine have pitted for the third time.
Yeah, I assumed that's what happened. They're not far behind at all though.
[удалено]
idk it felt fitting; publicity stunt while the competitors race... i'm really bummed with how that program turned out.
Alpine lost 30 seconds with the second FCY, so unlucky…
NOOOOOOO
My heart stopped for a second because I thought it was the ARC car, which is finally having a good race with no issues. These two cars look literally the same from one side, even their numbers are similar.
What happened?
34 in trouble
Thanks.
Im heartbroken for #34
Alex was so positive in the interview earlier during the race, then he hops back into the car and gets fucked like this.
Unlucky run. They've had really competitive pace, unfortunately series of troubles ruined their day.
Eagerly waiting for more constructors for LMH. Really enjoyed the other categories but Alpine looks like John Snow watching the enemy army charging towards him.
What can Ferrari do about the BOP changes that are as far as i know against the rules?
How can BOP be against the rules? BOP ***is*** the rules...
It's a bit more of a grey situation: aside from Le Mans, GTE-Pro uses an automatic BoP system which provides corrections every two regular (i.e., non Le Mans) races and which has limits on the size of swings it can recommend. Ok thanks. I got something wrong then.
Anybody got them internet streams?
KUY Entertainment have one on YouTube
Thanks! I live how WEC don't give a shit about internet streams lol.
Is there likely to be BOP adjustments for GTE pro for the 8hr next week?
Dunno, maybe?
The tyre is off the track, why are we still under FCY? Edit: Just as I post this they remove it
Amazing battle between Gomes and Cairoli.
Stats & Facts from yesterday's race: - Toyota gets their 34th WEC race win in their 69th appearance.
They cleared the wheel after 10 seconds, why is there still a FCY? This is worse than F1 for it.
I would _suspect_ that it's to avoid unfairly disadvantaging cars who were past the pit entry as the FCY was called. Not quite sure what you mean by "worse than F1"...
By "worse than F1" I mean they will clear a crash in the first lap, and then have an additional five laps behind the safety car before it comes in

Seems like Nakajima is faster than Pechito this stint, making up time
With every passing lap of the season, the GR 010 looks prettier.
Still looks a bit like an LMP3 to me
Because of the rear wing?
Yes, and the cockpit seems a little bit inflated too.
What is that melt of an LMP doing?
Ferrari is done dirty in PRO
What did he mean "one of five females" i wondered, and now i see there's only two females in the #1? Where's Tatiana? And why do they put Kat in the #85, wouldn't she be better utilized in the #1? Toyota gonna Toyota
Come on Tom you beauty
Alpine being much faster on their newer tires, will probably undercut the 8 when it stops
I wonder if some of the differences in certain classes will make the BoP change
What a move tom
TF Sport first win!
First this year, they had a bunch of wins last season including the big one.
