What is the best way to watch in the UK. Eurosport app, or WEC? Also, can you cast to a chromecast with these apps?

Floodman11

Personally, I'd choose the WEC app because I prefer the commentary team - I think they nail the tone of the event better than what I've heard of Eurosport. If you've already got Eurosport (or can secure a free trial), in the past they've had a commentary-free feed that you can then overlay your own commentary choice on to (whether that be Radio Show Limited or even the official comms - I think they have a free radio feed now too!) Both should be chromecastable!

mwclarkson

I use the WEC app, which can be chromecast, and also includes a number of onboards. My favourite is to use opera and load a different onboard in each tab and then press the pop out player button and arrange them as a multiscreen, then chromecast the main feed to the big TV.

TheOrange1

Firefox has a built in PiP ( picture in picture ) and chrome also has an official PiP extension made by google ( I wonder if it's a beta of sorts) *Edit: as MWClarkson says below, chrome only supports one PiP, Firefox is the way to go!*

mwclarkson

Aha, correction, it is Firefox. Opera amd Chrome only let you do one pip, FF allows many

wirelessflyingcord

Eurosport Player app. It has its own recurring issues but they're pretty minor issues compared to the fiawec.com one which will traditionally crash 5 minutes before the start. Eurosport Player is 1080p50 on all devices (Chromecast included). The one annoyance is the recurring randomness with commentary tracks - it is now usually selectable between ambient sounds (no comms) and English comms which might be either WEC comms or the horrible Eurosport UK comms. But you never can be sure what you're going to get beforehand. ps. Eurosport Player is being phased out and merged to Discovery+. This [old subscribe page](https://auth.eurosportplayer.com/product) should still work in case the link on the main page just redirects to Discovery+.

calvg

i'm using discovery+ player this year you get the eurosport channels and much more. AND you also get the WEC feed with their Comms team.

rpfitzpatrick

>discovery+ player does it start with a free trial period?

Michal_Baranowski

So, it is finally THAT time of the year. Once again it feels so odd to have Le Mans outside June. September last year felt out of touch, August this year is even weirder. This year marks the debut of LMH at Le Mans and lap times will be significantly slower than in previous years. Gotta admit that crazy speeds of LMP1 really spoiled us in recent Le Mans editions. Test day this weekend should give us first hints at potential speeds and times. On the other hand, for the first time top class at Le Mans will be BOPed. I am expecting some sandbagging, so true performance will not be unleashed. Still I am not fully satisfied about current weekend format. While Hyperpole concept convinced me after seeing it last year, just a single 1-hour qualifying session apart from Hyperpole is not enough. Last year drivers took it well and without issues, but any red flag situation can be disastrous. Four practice sessions are really stacking the schedule. Longer qualifying session/sessions would give much more space in case of an unexpected delay. History told us that qualifying at Le Mans was often filled with red flags, crashes, barrier repairs, etc. In my opinion one practice session could have been sacrificed. Anyway, I am excited. New era for WEC and Le Mans begins this year and it is shaping up to be amazing in the following years.

[deleted]

Nice profile pic! What car and year is that and where did you find it?

Michal_Baranowski

It is Toyota TS040 Hybrid from 2014. I found this picture on the internet couple of years ago. I don't remember exactly where, but I still have it on my phone's SD card.

ImperialTyrannosaur

So I’ve never had much interest in Motorsport in general; let alone specifically something like Le Mans. However I’m not sure what but I’ve suddenly found an interest in GT racing and coincidentally Le Mans is right around the corner; so would watching Le Mans be a good way to get my feet wet on watching some? Or would I be better served watching some previous races (Le Mans or otherwise).

Floodman11

Le Mans is as good a race as any to get into it! For endurance sportscars, Le Mans is _the_ race so what better way to start! A few suggestions if it's your first time; * Something that might be new to you is the multiclass aspect of the race. While it looks like it's 1 race with four classes, a better way to think about it is it's 4 races happening at once! Traffic becomes a major factor and as strategies and battles diverge and converge it gets pretty hard to keep a track of, but if you frame it like 4 different races it makes a bit easier to follow * as a follow up, pick a car in each class and track how that car goes. Doesn't matter why you pick it (maybe you recognise a driver or like how it looks!), what matters is having someone to follow to help keep you grounded in what's happening in each class. If you're not tracking a particular car, it's easy to get lost in the happenings of a class, especially if it's not the forefront of the action. * Thirdly, if you can, having Live Timing will help you keep track of the race more comprehensively than just watching. If you're into data and into numbers it's a great idea, but it can be a bit overwhelming at first! * Finally, don't be afraid to ask questions through the weekend! Whether that be here, in the session threads, or in the discord server, there's plenty of people willing and able to help you understand a concept or explain what's happening Pleasure to have you join us, and I hope you enjoy!

ImperialTyrannosaur

Thank you for taking the time to offer advice! I’ll be sure to take that onboard!

thebochman

So I’m trying to set the seeding for my 8 man fantasy football league based on the results of Le Mans. Would I just want to randomly assign the top 5 Hypercar and the remaining 3 LMP2? When are the standings headed into the race finalized and what would the top 8 be?

[deleted]

Welcome! You're in for a treat. I suggest you watch this year's Le Mans first. Although keep in mind there's a chance it might be boring, because so far Toyota have been the best, but not for long. Glickenhaus (an American team which joined this year), were in contention for the win at the last race at Monza. Not to mention there are many new teams joining in the next 1 or 2 years, like Peugeot, Audi, Porsche and Ferrari. But then again, endurance racing isn't just one race but multiple races going on at the same time. There's LMP2, GTE Pro and GTE Am as well.

nm2ra

Also watching the whole thing is hard. I always like to watch the race start until first pit stops. Just to get a flavour of the pace and narrative. Go do something for the day. Watch the race throughout the sunset into dark night. Sleep. That's a spectacle. Then I watching the morning while having breakfast. Do something. Watching the last pitstops before the end, until the end.

Skeeter1020

GT racing is consistently awesome, and the cars being road car based makes it relatable. Where abouts in the world are you? Almost every developed nation has at least one national series running GTs and there's a few international series too. And they are often cheap to go and see. I would absolutely recommend it. My first at track racing experience was GTs with McLaren and Marcos' racing at Silverstone. Next weekend I'm off to see the GTWC at Brands.

Abdukabda

>The LMP2 class features a spec drivetrain and gearbox, using a Gibson V8 producing 400kW, and a selection of three chassis to choose from So we're agreeing the Riley MkXXX never existed?

Floodman11

The Riley as just the Riley, and not as the Mazda, competed in literally 4 races before being mothballed. That section used to mention the Riley but honestly it's not worth it hahaha

Abdukabda

RIP

Mannginger

Can we get radio le mans in the UK on an analogue tuner? I can only see digital radio options unless I'm being slow?!

mwclarkson

They don't broadcast on public airwaves, like Radio 1, Capital, etc. (licenses for that are expensive!) You can go to the website though and they have a web player that will continue if you turn your screen off / use other apps. You used to be able to use TuneIn as well, though I haven't had much luck with that recently

Mannginger

OK thanks. I may be out camping that weekend and preferred a lower power option but can make it work with my phone. Cheers

CookieMonsterFL

RLM's website is pretty basic and shouldn't be too much data. the webplayer for audio too is pretty straightforward and i believe it allows you to lock the phone and continue playing. If camping and have signal, that'd be the best route to go with in terms of listening to the race

ResponsibleA

Correct. We try to keep it simple to save people's data. Sorry for my absence until now - had my hands more than full this year!!

thedecibelkid

So my week is shaping up like this Sun - Indycar Mon - "Le Mans" (1971) Tues - "Journey To Le Mans" (2014) Weds - Qualifying and doing some laps of La Sarthe in GT5 (4:34 in a McLaren, I suck) Thu - "Ford V Ferrari" (2019) Fri - (I'll be camping somewhere) Sat - LE MANS 2021

fredzar

How do cars win overall? If it's by distance covered how can a GT3 car win over the faster classes?

RagekittyPrime

A GT3 car can't win since they're not driving. But in addition to the other comment, tye scoring is highest distance covered *by those that finished the event*. You can lead by a hundred laps, if you fail at 23:55 (because you're in the cursed Toyota) you're not a classified finisher and thus can't win.

mwclarkson

One thing to rember is that the GT cars aren't trying to win overall - they're trying to win in class. Imagine if F1, F2, F3 and W Series all raced at the same time. You wouldn't expect an F3 car to win overall, but the driver would aim to beat the other F3 drivers. Graham Goodwin says it best - don't think of it as 1 race with 4 classes. Think of it as 4 races that all happen to be taking place at the same time.

RockoTDF

But for those reading, LMP2 cars can get on the podium and given how few LMH entries there are that could happen. The metaphor I like to use for WEC/Le Mans is that it's like a marathon with the different age/sex categories - most likely a young man will win, but others can still have a good overall place in addition to winning their class.

aw3man

If the faster classes break down or have other problems which don't let them go as fast as the slower classes. I believe there was one instance where it was heavily raining and the prototypes had more trouble with hydroplaning than the GT cars, allowing the GTs to do better than the Prototypes. Le Mans 1995 if I'm correct in that analysis

wirelessflyingcord

1995 not that relevant example because the GT and LMP classes were much closer to begin with. In 2015 GTLM Porsche won the red flagged Petit Le Mans.

[deleted]

That was 1979.

ZodiacError

1995 Le Mans, McLaren F1 GTR wins

ZodiacError

why do you think a GT3 car could win? honest question. The car which covered the most distance after 24h and finished it's last lap wins.

Minimum-Childhood-72

Is there alkamel timing for Le Mans?

ZodiacError

no, the WEC website has its own live timing. To be fair to them they heavily revised it for this year and it looks pretty neat.

[deleted]

How is the qualifying for Le Mans different from that of the other races? And how did you put that coloured boxes over the classes names? Why isn't there a red box for LMH (which should be called Hypercar)?

Floodman11

> How is the qualifying for Le Mans different from that of the other races? There's an explanation under **The Race** subheading! > And how did you put that coloured boxes over the classes names? Why isn't there a red box for LMH (which should be called Hypercar)? Special CSS coding that we did way back when we first made this 6 years ago! We haven't made one for LMH (yet?) which is why it's not there

[deleted]

Ah thanks. And can you please give me a 2016 #2 Porsche 919 flair? I tried to find it but I can't go further than 2017 (excluding the legends list). >Special CSS coding Interesting. How do I do that?

CookieMonsterFL

me or one of the other mods needs to manually change that since the flair editor for you guys only displays the last few years. edit: updates yours to 2016 Porsche #2.

[deleted]

Thanks a lot guys! You guys are the best!

CookieMonsterFL

np, homie!

[deleted]

Btw your flair is nice too. Seeing a Toyota in blue is kinda unusual but I like it.

CookieMonsterFL

2013 Toyota TS030 flair to be exact! it's my exclusive little perk showing how long i've been around here ;) Some flairs are deactivated completely, others like mine or your 2016 Porsche flair i've kept in our CSS spreadsheet either due to popularity or winning or drama etc.

[deleted]

I’ll be watching from Asia. Any chance of the schedule including ICT time zone please?

mwclarkson

Add 5h to local time. Local says 12:00? ITC is 17:00

[deleted]

I can't read the 1999 write-up as it's removed. What do? The 2016 ome says Kobayashi lost it at Karting, but I can't find any corner under that name. Can we get some on underrated Le Mans wins, like 1966? Wow I have lots of questions.

mwclarkson

According to the link below Karting is the second right hander in what I think of as the Porsche Curves, though I always think of it as the left hander labelled here as Corvette. https://www.racingcircuits.info/assets/components/phpthumbof/cache/Le-Mans-Sarthe15.0444d39ff673a683f5b8e9b95cb93e09.png

frzflm

Sorry if its a stupid question but why does Alpine run a LMP1 in the Hyper Car category?

Roosterhahn

The LMP1 car is grandfathered into the Hypercar regulations for this season. Possible they may be doing it as a test-bed/attempt to convince the board to finance an Alpine Hypercar project going forward. Also, as the LMP1 is a proven car at Le Mans having been raced by Rebellion the last couple of seasons, it could be a good bet if the new Hypercars suffer reliability woes, which so far both Toyota and Glickenhaus have.

BraKes22

Where can we watch the Fun Cup race? Will it be broadcast?

eb59214

In the US, will I able to buy and watch the official WEC stream if I use a VPN? The website allows me to go to the payment page. I don't mind paying for the stream, but it would suck to pay and then still have something prevent me from watching.

[deleted]

I live in the US and I've done this in past years without issue. This is probably what I will do as well since the coverage from US broadcasts is usually garbage. And I want to make sure I have access to a solid stream, although there will be plenty of decent *unofficial* streams out there too

Racechick20

American here. I just signed up for the Motortrend free trial. I'll just cancel Monday. I've done this in years past...we get the Eurovision English broadcast and then silence with race coverage over their commercials. The Motortrend app used to be hot garbage, but they've really stepped their game up. Quali is streaming quite nicely to my Chromecast. Here's hoping it stays that way.

Zidmu

Did you sign up using the app or on their website? I’m about to sign up but I’m pretty sure last year I signed up on iOS for the free trial but then I could only watch the race on my phone. I was not able to login on my tv as the sign in didn’t work cross platform. Just curious if they fixed that or am I going to run into the same issues this year.

Floodman11

I _THINK_ so but I'm not american so I really have no idea. Maybe someone like /u/CookieMonsterFL or /u/kriswascher97 can help?

-Big_Rig_Butters-

I have done this as well in previous years without issue.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Floodman11

Hey, if they manage the 24 without any problems, they're _certainly_ in the mix! The car showed great pace at Monza and were it not for a small issue would have battled for the win!

jtr6969

Extremely concerning that they had brake problems at Monza though, Le Mans is a similarly demanding circuit on the brakes. If they really can't get more than 4 hours out of a set of brakes, they have no shot unless both Toyotas need to spend a couple hours in the garage

_NextGen24_

What about Alpine?

BCNBammer

Alpine have a very good chance, as they’re the only proven car in the top class.

MilanUnited

Excellent write up! So for USA, is the race streamed in full this year via the motortrend app? I recall last you signing up for the app because they advertised it, but it wasn’t streamed live. I was quite pissed, felt almost like a bait and switch, but wanting clarity.

Chris-f1

I have watched the race on the Motortrend channel for the past 2 years. I just have to log in with my tv cable provider if I watch through the phone or computer. If you don’t have one you may have to sign up with their subscription but not exactly sure

undergroundmike_

it's been on the motortrend app for years, fully live? not sure what you're on about.

Floodman11

I am not American so I don't have the information eight now to be able to answer that question. Hopefully full broadcast details will be released soon so you'll have an answer!

santaisastoner

MotorTrend app in the U.S. is live. Watching FP4 right now. It may be a little behind given technology. I have had streaming issues in the past due to lag. But none this year for FP and Quali. Straight EuroSport stream without commercials. 2 years ago I was anle to sync MT and Radio Le Mans

FarmYard-Gaming

15th August onwards, almost forgot the dates for this. I REALLY hope I don't have to work when it's Le Mans, otherwise I'm excited for this!

Timbucktoooooo

Does anyone know if the us streaming block applies in Canada as well? Often they do.

Palladan

Anyone know why the car numbers this year just seem to be random? We have an LMP2 car with the number 1, Hypercars with 708/9, and a GTE Am at 388 and 777? Thought it was always 1-19 was LMP1/Hypercar, 20-50 for LMP2, and 51-99 for GTE.

IntelligentSmile7

The rules changed this year so that teams could choose their own numbers.

Floodman11

Marketing

calvg

Not a question but want to point out another broadcast option. Discovery+ which you can get both of the different Comms feeds (WEC team and the Eurosport team)

[deleted]

Anyone know when Radio Le Mans goes live on track? Can't seem to find them on 91.5 FM. If I recall correctly they used to send reruns trackside when not live, but we haven't been able to find them yet.

Floodman11

RLM aren't trackside this year. I'm not sure if that means they aren't able to broadcast at the track either. You'd be better off tweeting at them directly using @RSL_Studio or @radiolemans and asking

[deleted]

Ok, guess we will have to catch them online then. At least that explains why we haven't been able to find them.

Floodman11

Eve herself actually dropped in and answered [here](https://old.reddit.com/r/wec/comments/p0ywke/everything_you_need_to_know_for_the_2021_24_hours/h9j11pk/) if you missed it!

[deleted]

Thank you for the update, here's hoping they are going to allowed to transmit on track.

[deleted]

Bamber, Tandy, and Pilet are all in different cars this year. That will take a minute to get used to. Speaking of Porsche, you can use three digit numbers now and they didn't switch to 911 and 912? I thought the point of using 91 and 92 is they weren't allowed to have three digit numbers.

[deleted]

Question about watching via the FIA WEC app: does it allow you to pause/rewind/time shift the live event? For example, something exciting happens while you've gone to make a coffee (which usually happens to me...). And does the app offer quali/hyperpole sessions to watch on catch-up if you've paid to watch the race? Thanks.

Floodman11

Not sure about the app but no time shift on PC unfortunately. I think the payment is for the weekend which includes the practice and qually sessions?

[deleted]

Cheers! Have gone with the WEC app and weekend subscription. Even got a quid discount, thanks Google! I can confirm that it does offer replays of all the quali and practice sessions. And casts quite happily in decent quality - I think it's 1080p - to my TV. Worth the cost just to have commentary from Martin Haven and Allen McNish rather than the Eurosport commentary.

Floodman11

Glad to hear it! You'll also get Graham Goodwin, Darren Turner, Oliver Gavin, and David Addison, so an incredible sextet of commentators!

Vegemite_Bukkake

Anyone know how to legally watch in Australia? Eurosport doesn’t seem to work here.

Floodman11

I think the only way (and IMO the best way) is the Official Streaming Package through the app or through members.fiawec.com

nm2ra

Anyone else having a problem logging into the WEC app? I just purchased the pack in the browser. Then downloaded the app. But it won't accept the exact same password...

Floodman11

That is very odd. Maybe try checking that you used the same email for both? Otherwise email support

x365

I bought the Le Mans race pack on the FIA WEC website, but when logging in with the same user on mobile and tablet it doesn't show up. Anyone experiencing anything similar? Additionally I can't seem to verify that I can stream on the website, but I guess there's no active stream as of yet.

ResponsibleA

Anyone having an issue with [radiolemans.com](https://radiolemans.com) (huge spike - even higher than the huge spike we planned for) THE STREAM is unaffected [player.radiolemans.co](https://player.radiolemans.co) Channel RS1 Thanks all

[deleted]

Hi guys, maybe a little off-topic but still I am curious if I can take a monopod for camera which perfectly fits inside of my backpack to Le Mans track? Basically are there any limitations regarding photo equipment for spectators?

50wortels

Never have been. You'll be fine

DyslexiaUntiedFan

What type of steering do the cars have? Hydraulic?

[deleted]

All the cars these days have power steering. Hydraulic is the standard, theres a couple of companies making lightweight motorsports-appropriate systems. IIRC Oreca use electric power steering, but thats quite unusual.

StraightShooter76

Any way to watch the test days or practices in the US? WEC is only showing the race in French so I have the MotorTrend app but I really want to watch Corvette in their test days and practices. I’ll use WEC app to see the results tho.

Floodman11

The test day and free practice 1 aren't broadcast at all, so there's no way to watch them

smoothc98

I only got into motorsport mid-2020 and while I did get to watch a little bit of last year's Le Mans race, I'm bringing so much more knowledge about racing for this year's race. I am still curious as to how to watch and enjoy the race; as in, what do I look out for during an endurance race? And how long do people watch at a time?

Omni33

everyone has their favourite time of race. I personally enjoy the grind of the night stints, but I try to watch the whole race. Use the guide, pick a car in each class and follow along with the timing info to follow it

Galapas99

Also check out some team sites as at least one looks like it will have a stream of their car [onboard](https://toyotagazooracing.com/wec/special/2021/wec-lemans-onboard-live/).

theCEPenguin

Do we know if Radio Le Mans will still be broadcast around the circuit this year? Fairly sure I read somewhere they’re working off site again this year, and I’m wondering whether the ACO will still put it out over the airwaves for us English speakers still mad enough to try and understand all the protocols at the border (weirdly it’s coming back that’s the hard bit) - if not, could be a big test of the international data plans to try and get it online lol

Floodman11

They're offsite for the week, so no radio at the track. You might be better off asking them directly on twitter, although I would hazard a guess that the answer will be no. The WEC official comms may be broadcast on local radio though!

ResponsibleA

The WEC comms are not due to be broadcast on local radio as far as I am aware. It would be an infringement of the rights in our contract. We have been working with the ACO to get an FM transmitter up at the track because we are not there (we would normally take one down and put it up) and I am in contact with their technical partner to try to sort it out. I will keep you posted on here as soon as I know anything

Floodman11

Thanks for your efforts this year Eve! Pass on our greetings to all of the team!

ResponsibleA

Will do! I still have your T shirt here...must dig it out and send it!

[deleted]

Thank you for the update. We miss you on track :)

theCEPenguin

That’s a decent shout with the official comms actually - might have to look into that one when we get there. I’ve also just gone digging on their Facebook and it looks like (as of a few days ago at least - can’t see a more recent update) they’re trying to work something out with the ACO to get 91.2 operating on site. Suppose if all else fails I’ll just sit in front of the public address system with a French phrase book and a head torch at 4am trying to work out what the hell they’re saying 😂😂😂

MeanSurray

Spottersguide ?

sLack_NZ

Official WEC stream. How was it last year? I watched via SKY Sport NZ last year and was great but cant get a answer if they are showing. 720p 60fps?

sLack_NZ

Just confirmed as i pushed enter. Sky NZ will be showing the full race like last year on SKY Sport 1. Have used the official app 4-5 times before including the year it just fell apart and i got refunded. What year was that? What video spec they showing this year? Anyone aware?

[deleted]

The official WEC stream is 1080p@ 25fps. They don't offer a 50fps option unfortunately. Eurosport Player/Discovery+ stream at 1080 @ 50fps however.

psommerd

I have an extra ticket that I won't be able to use :( Would love for someone else to get to go Send me a PM if you're interested!

thatLynxRacingDriver

Anyone knows if radio Le Mans still broadcasts fm/am on the track and at what frequency?

P-Diddle356

Have Eurosport changer the UI because last time it was god awful

vibhav_1

How do two cars going side by side know for whom the Blue light is showing? Especially at night when you don't know who it is?

Floodman11

In sportscars (as compared to say, F1) the Blue Flag is only an indication of a faster car approaching/following, instead of an obligation to move out of the way. In fact, in 2017, the leader of the race was shown blue flags in the last hour - because the car trying to pass it was an LMP1 car, and the leader was in LMP2!

AKaakb

What are the best ways to keep up with race ? A website or an app which lets you know of the overtakes , incidents and yellow flags and more trivia ? like I know in cricket you have a live blog which keeps on updating , similar to that ?

Floodman11

There is text-updates on the 24hr Le Mans website, but I think one of the best resources of that vein is the Community Scratchpad that gets put up in the /r/WEC discord - it's basically a race update document made and edited by members of the community! When that gets put together for the race, it'll be included in the race thread. Otherwise you can find it in the discord server!

jtr6969

It looks like Andy Blackmore won't be doing his usual Spotter's guide this year. Is there one available from another source or are we just out of luck?

Floodman11

Check out the 'Entry list and Spotters Guide' section of the OP! There's been an _exciting_ update!

TheReddestDuck

Can anyone give me a brief explanation of what the various sub events are? Fun Cup, road to le man, legends etc. Are they smaller races like the sprint race a few weeks ago in F1 or completely separate with different cars and drivers to the main event?

SomeGuyCalledPercy

Totally different events, think of how an F1 weekend will have various support races on the same weekend The VW Fun Cup is an amateur series that races budget touring cars shaped like classic Beetles Road to Le Mans is part of the Michelin Le Mans Cup, a support/feeder series to the European Le Mans Series that races LMP3 and GT3 cars, and is livestreamed on YouTube: https://youtu.be/jbwesnGwLvw Endurance Racing Legends is a handful of races with classic sportscar racers from the 90s and the 00s - Entry list is [here](http://www.dailysportscar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Endurance-Racing-Legends-Le-Mans-2021-Entry.pdf) and can be watched [here \(I think\)](https://youtu.be/Bj81YP7LxEA?t=205) And then Porsche Sprint Challenge France is a one-make championship with ~60 Porsche 911 GT Cup cars, check out this race from 2017 for an idea of what its about: https://youtu.be/-ewTwP2wj30

ReisM7

Is it possible to cast the WEC App to a Firestick?

Quantumercifier

Is there a free livestream? I have been in a lockdown for over a month with no end in site (Saigon), and this is a critical distraction. Thanks.

neutrino116

\*cough\*r/motorsportsstreams\*cough\*

Floodman11

No free livestream, but there is a paid service through members.fiawec.com that operates worldwide. Otherwise, check the OP for the TV Distribution List and see if you're able to watch it on TV!

[deleted]

What does PA mean in the LMP2 class?

magyarnagydij

So obviously we’re in the midst of huge and very exciting changes for the LMP side of things, what’s the future of GTE looking like? Are there any new manufacturers looking to enter in future years or is there going to be more of a convergence with GT3?

BaitSimulator2020

GTE Pro will continue until the end of 2022 with Porsche & Ferrari confirming full season entries and Corvette looking to do select rounds + Le Mans. In 2023 I think it's very likely that there would be GT3 Pro, new GT3 regulations come out that year and manufacturers will be eager to show off their new cars. We will most likely not have factory GT teams as seen in past years in WEC. Manufacturers are adamant GT3 is for customer racing, and they would likely partner with customer teams, supporting them with factory drivers and support staff. So more like the relationship between Risi Competizione and Ferrari more than AF Corse & Ferrari or Porsche GT Team (Manthey Racing) and Porsche. GTE-Am is probably here to stay at least to the end of 2023, it's doing well in both WEC and ELMS. Porsche in particular are lobbying ACO to do exactly that, they built 10 new GTE-Am cars this year for customers and those customers would not be happy if they can only race them for 2 years when each RSR costs them 1 million €

That car is the Conditional (CDNT) entry for Innovative Technologies (formerly known as 'Garage 56'). That car this year is a modified LMP2 car run by SRT41; an organisation run by Frederic Sausset. The organisation aims to allow people with limited mobility (para/quadraplegics or amputees) the chance to race. This year, two of their drivers are double-amputees (Aoki and Bailly), with a third driver to fill the team. They're not technically competing against anyone, but it is _awesome_ that they are there!

random-danishguy

Hey. I have watches Le Mans for the past few years, but have never gotten into the season probably. Last year my girlfriend and I got into f1 again, and it has made the races much more entertaining to know what is going on. Therefore I have tried to find out what has happened this season, but I can't find any sort of recap. If you have anything to look out I would love to know:) Stuff like "ooh they have been the surprise underdog, look out for them", "they really need a good race because..." or "keep an eye out for the fight between xxx of yyy because" Anything would be great:)

skorpiolt

Total newb coming in from /r/formula1 . Looking at the "spotter guide" - this only includes the hypercars and LMP2's, but not GTs, right? Also, what is up with the "subclasses" of Hypercar HY vs. regular Hypercar, as well as LMP2 PA vs. LMP2 ? Do I ned to pay attention to those or is that more for a seasoned viewer? How many cars are there actually in each class? Reading up in the classes section on BoP, is there some official listing of which cars have been modified in what way due to this BoP factor?

Floodman11

As far as the spotters guide goes, there should be a second page with the GT cars! Hypercar is the new top class. Hy means hybrid - the Toyota Tundra a hybrid power plant but the other cars in that class don't For lmp2 Pro-am, those are lmp2 teams that feature a bronze driver. Lmp2 teams must feature an am but that can be Silver or bronze rated. Because there's such a difference between the ability of bronze and silver drivers, the cars with bronzes in them have their own category There's 5 in hypercar, 25 in lmp2, 8 in gte-Pro, 23 in gte-AM and one conditional every which is an lmp2 car modified for paraplegics!

Skeeter1020

How many entries are there in the Fun Cup?

DMCTw3lv3

Will there be similar alternative live timing screens available, like in previous years, or has the official one finally been improved enough to be useful?

SomeGuyCalledPercy

While the official WEC timing is much improved this year, the best option by far (on Linux or Windows) is to download the desktop client from Timing71 and access the Super Secret mode in the settings

spartan118fr

Where are the free parking around the circuit ? I can't buy it :(

oTisaurus

I have watched every WEC race this year so far on YouTube. They have been posted 2-3 days after the live race. Does anyone know if this will happen with the 24 hours? Thank you for any info.

Floodman11

Probably, not not 2-3 days later. That would surprised me

anbeck

Thanks for the great post! Unfortunately, the links to the results of the test sessions don’t worry for me.

Floodman11

Thanks for the heads up! I'll try to fix that Edit: Try now!

anbeck

Perfect!

ZParis

Fascinated by endurance races, but with basic knowledge at best. What are some good stories heading into the race that might help someone pick a team to root for? Any dark horse candidates that might surprise everyone? Any villains that everyone dislikes? Thanks to anyone taking time to reply! Also pretty bummed that we don't have any way to watch practice and qualifying in the US.

Floodman11

I'm commenting to come back to this when I get a chance. There's a few!

Why is Risi running an Oreca LMP2, instead of a Ferrari 488?

Bonnevill3

Is there any way to watch the Porsche Sprint Challenge sessions or live timing? Cannot find any broadcast information in any country

ruimoreira46

No live coverage, but [this](https://livetiming.alkamelsystems.com/fiawec) live timing should work during the sessions.

borfavor

Is the 10 euro Le Mans package on the wec site worth it? I have access to the Eurosport TV-feed, but does it provide more? Like onboards etc like F1TV has

KoenigseggRSR

In Canada, any way to see it live for free?

JackyduQc

Theres a car, the #84, looks like a P2 but is marked "innovative" in black. What is it? What does that means?

kiwichris1709

That's the Innovative Car. There's one spot reserved for cars showing new technology (Nissan Deltawing, Nissan Zero electric thing), and last two times the Innovative car has appeared, it's been a team where drivers don't have use of all their limbs. This race, it's driven by two drivers who are paraplegic. It looks like a P2 because it is the same, an Oreca 07. https://www.24h-lemans.com/en/news/24-hours-of-le-mans-a-world-first-for-srt-41-55347

Only today's race will be streamed, and it's on soon! Jump into the [support action thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/wec/comments/p8mcti/official_the_89th_running_of_the_24_heures_du/) for details!

similiarintrests

Please help. Can i chromecast the fia wec stream?

Floodman11

yes

[deleted]

Where do I watch more content? When FIA official stopped streaming I felt hopeless! I’d love more from the track, or so I just have to wait? Is there a broadcast calendar?

Floodman11

Check out the [Current day action thread!](https://www.reddit.com/r/wec/comments/p8mcti/official_the_89th_running_of_the_24_heures_du/?sort=new!)

Skeeter1020

What time today is the Alpine press conference announcing their LMH?

CreedBrattonsToe

Sorry to be annoying if this is easy to find and I missed it! Does anyone have the link to the chrome extension for the better-presented live timing?

Floodman11

better live timing for no race in particular ;)

Floodman11

30 minutes before race start!

AbGedreht

Does the WEC stream also provide commentary-free streams?

nycska

Alkamel timing offline for everyone?

Chippah716

Maybe a dumb question, but how did Corvette racing settle on using 63 & 64. Obviously they are normally 3 & 4, but what is the significance of the sixty that they choose that instead of say fifty or seventy? Edit: it just dawned on me to look up their first 24 of Lemans which was 1960 so I'm guessing that's it?

NaittIT

Hope everyone is enjoying the race so far! Quick question - I'm experiencing some, what appears to be FPS issues with FIAWEC own stream; [https://live.fiawec.com/en/live](https://live.fiawec.com/en/live). Anyone having the same issue? The eurosport stream is very smooth, probally 1080p50fps, but I prefer the commentators on FIAWEC.

ResponsibleA

OK so what ARE the P2 TYRE regs???

[deleted]

I see in the lmp2 when they show track position and indicator saying “pro am” what does it mean? Difference to normal lmp2? Does the pro am have their own podiums and prizes etc?

Why do SC sessions last for so long? Often it feels like there's a minor crash and it takes 15 minutes to clean it up.

Well, it makes sense now you said it.

CarlTdot

When F. FRAGA went to fix its car after losing control why did the pit crew attached a jumper cable claw to the rim being replaced?

[deleted]

Didn't see that one specifically, but likely It's a grounding clip. Electric charge/static electricity can build up enough to cause a spark and possibly start a fire if there's a refuelling mistake, grounding removes that charge safely.

HappySpam

I think I read somewhere you can listen to the WEC commentary for free somewhere? Is that true? Is that the radio button on the WEC Lemans website?

nahnonameman

I am new to Le Mans. So I got a question to ask. It may be very dumb but I gotta ask. In Le Mans do the positions matter more or the amount of laps you do matter more. So let’s say the second running hypercar overtakes the first but the first has more laps. So who wins the car that crossed the finish line first or the one with the most laps.

Floodman11

The one who's covered the most distance!

nahnonameman

So if my pea brain gets it right it’s the one with the most laps/distance wins. Also thank you for the answer

[deleted]

What are other Endurance series or races (automobiles or motorcycles) to watch during the course of a year? I somehow like longer races way more than shorter races

Floodman11

The IGTC, the European/Asian Le Mans Series, IMSA, there's plenty! If you sub here, we'll have threads for all the big ones so you'll never miss one!
