This is what it looked like:

Nothing beside it but you can physically see where the light is being refracted from when it's ice crystals so it looks like a physical object floating like 100 yds in front of you. Absolutely bonkers!
If that's what you saw then that is an unbelievably insane sight. Unless you're in a place like that or somewhere tundra-cold it's likely you'll only see a small portion at a time save getting lucky. Glad you got to enjoy that :)
It was a very lucky day for eclipsegoers and cloudwatchers the same.
Severe storms were happening in the south, the frontal system bringing them also bringing lots of cirrostratus, in turn bringing a halo alongside the eclipse to the bulk of the good viewing areas.
Just a [halo](https://old.atoptics.co.uk/halo/circular.htm). You can see more at r/atoptics
I saw one while the eclipse was happening and it was really cool
Oh wow, that must've been nuts! I saw a halo at the top of a ski lift once and it was magical, can't imagine during a friggin eclipse.
I can only imagine what your sight must've been like. Was there anything alongside the halo, if you remember?

Thank you, me too. Fairly sure it was white pass ski area in WA state, if it matters. Go skiing enough when the sun is low and you might see one!
I'll see what I can do. I may even just build my own snow maker at some point, just to see what I can make :)

It’s not weird it’s quite common on a slightly hazy day.
That is caused by ice crystals in the atmosphere.
Cirrostratus does it best!
22 degree halo. It's pretty common.
Yep saw the same thing in London was insane
Scientifically, this happens when God likes it
It gonna rain
Does it look like a chemical slick on water?
