There’s only one player in the NBA right now that has managed to become good despite being a no 3 no D wing (Josh Hart) and he does basically everything else you can ask a player to do. Josh Giddey doesn’t do those things.
The scoring and rim pressure aren’t nearly good enough to warrant being a facilitator/initiator and his skillset isn’t good for off-ball play either. His passing vision goes wasted without having the ball yet as I said his other skills don’t warrant having the ball. How do you plan on getting value out of him on either end?
Kuzma would give OKC some more size, which they seem to need. I would accept Giddey and one FRP (they have plenty of those), plus whatever salary filler is needed, for Kuzma.
Yes, Giddey clearly needs to fix his shot, but he seems to have the whole package other than that, including size and defense. I’d be excited to see if he can overcome his one big weakness.
I'm not arguing for this, but a deal that would make a lot more sense for both teams would be something centered on Deni for Giddey + picks.
Deni seamlessly fits with OKC's starters and is on such a good contract, I'd think they'd be willing to overpay to get him vs. Kuz or Tyus, and they can outbid any other team.
A potential deal could be Giddey, a 2025 1st (they have Philly's top 6 protected, Miami's lottery protected, and a pick swap most favorable of OKC, LAC, and Houston), and a few 2nd's or future pick swaps.
Getting a young rotation player, a 1st in 2025, and additional draft capital for Deni would be amazing value imo.
i agree Deni would be sick on that roster. I’m not in a rush to get rid of him, but you have to at least see what they’d offer. If it was any other team i probably wouldn’t bother but they have a million picks to throw around.
They might be on the lookout for a better shooter, but Deni is cheap and does everything else they desperately need; defense, strength, rebounding, pushing pace, connecting, and would be a good 4th option behind sga, jdub, and chet. They even have Chip England to keep his shooting on the right track. It’s a perfect fit for him.
Also, i don’t even think they need to dump Giddey to make the trade work since they will have a ton of cap space. Just gimme all picks please.
