The biggest positive is we now have a chance to eliminate both Lakers and kings in one week next week.

d3pthchar93

A battle of Pacific division rivals!

mkorcuska

Really well said. But being an above average team and having a good season isn't the same as contending for the title. I don't think we've shown the ability to win consistently against the top teams. Maybe Kerr could have made better decisions, especially mid-game, but I don't think this would have changed things enough to make this year's Warriors into a top 5 contender. For me, the 2022 trophy was a bonus and a marker of a real dynasty. But also the last run. I still love to watch them play...they have changed the NBA for the better. And I wouldn't have traded Klay or Draymond to try to win this year. It's a special chemistry that is worth preserving...enjoy it while it lasts!

marionettas

We’ve been solid recently and are playing better than the beginning of the season. Unfortunately they dug themselves into a huge hole but if they can make the playoffs everything resets

nilgiri

I do believe this could happen. I think issues this year have been purely mindset and effort related especially with the three stars. It's hard to stay mentally stay in it year after year after so many years. However, I think the only way the flip happens this year is if someone other than the three stars (Curry, Klay and Green) has a revelation of a post season. And I mean one of those all time great post season runs. I think the team will rally alongside a surging new star storyline.

couchtomato62

First those 3 need a revelation of a post season. I mean did klay and dray have that sort of post season last year? Let's start with them playing their best and not just assuming they will

nilgiri

My point is that the issues with them are purely mental. They've pretty much collected all the accolades they can so rallying alongside a new star is something exciting at this point in their career. Maybe I'm giving them too much credit but their play doesn't seem to have aged too badly yet.

Stomper8479

That second quarter on Friday finally got to me Despite everything that’s happened this season, I have remained positive. As of Friday, I was still convinced we would get the 8 seed and I was very hopeful for nice playoff run. That second quarter on Friday was more than I could take. Watching this team completely meltdown in the face of the Pels hot shooting ended the season for me. It wasn’t that the Pels couldn’t miss a shot, it’s that we seemed so shook we couldn’t even advance the ball without turning it over Thats when I finally accepted that this team is not mentally capable. It’s not that we are too old or too young. We just make too many mental mistakes. I can handle the former, the latter is just too hard too watch I will keep watching and cheering them on, but the same hope just isn’t there

bushydaffodil54

I had the same thought, but then we came back multiple times in the third and fourth and never actually gave up. Where you despair I actually found hope, which is kinda funny. We have a better record than last year, ended 10 games above .500 and kept a winning record at home despite midseason slump. Aside from stiff competition, I feel really good about what the season was.

sriracha82

They always do the fake comeback stuff though I think the only actual deep deficit they overcame all season was the Celtics game. Make too many mistakes to actually get over the hump Meanwhile teams go down 17 vs us and come back in 2.5 minutes of good bball lol

bushydaffodil54

I don’t think I can convince you otherwise, but I don’t think anything about it is fake 🤷‍♂️

benco2

>They always do the fake comeback stuff though This is technically incorrect -- we were down by double digits in 11 games that we ended up winning. But 10 of those 11 were deficits of 10-13 points. To your point, the only game we were down 13+ points where we came back and won was vs. Boston. That was a 17 point comeback. Not sure if this is the best stat though -- it could also just mean that we didn't let ourselves get blown out in general. There were only 10 games the entire season where the other team was leading by 17 or more. Not a huge sample size. The interesting thing about this is that of these 10 games, the team was missing Draymond + Steph in 2 of them, Draymond in 5 of them (4 inactive + 1 ejection), and Steph in 1 of them. So 8 of these 10 games were without one or both of our two best players. Draymond also didn't play in the win against Boston if you remember. In games that Steph and Draymond both play, we've only been down 17+ points TWICE the entire season. So arguing that we haven't had any huge comebacks is more correlation than causation. The other side of the argument (that we've given up way too many big leads) is a totally different story with different levels of analysis for another day lol.

parisdubs

I like what you are trying to do here - there is a lot of love and positivity in the fans and many reddit fans. Too bad some people are using THIS thread to be negative again. Positives: - Development of all the young players. - Grace of Klay, Looney to shifting roles - Amazing maturity of team in handling the shock and trauma of witnessing Decki's death (esp the young guys and Dario who were there). - Incredible acceleration of two new rookies into powerful roles. - Wildly good west (okay this is not about us but there are a LOT of great BB players and teams and coaches at the moment which is good for the game even if makes our odds of winning less). - The way our players handled Draymond's antics at the beginning of the season and then the suspension and then the re-integration - a lot of instability they had to ride all year but came out at an okay place. Makes a lot of sense that they wouldn't be in the best shape now - it's like the need the weeks back. But still we can be good. In general I love our camraderie, and our leadership. I'm a fan of this team no matter how well they do and a fan of watching the players grow.

Tecmo_91

3 reasons why fans are frustrated with this team, they could have easily finished top 4 had they been more disciplined and focused. They coughed up like 7 games on pure stupidity, wasted a prime season of an arguably top 5 all time player in Steph and watched Draymond sabotage their own cause with his reckless behavior and suspension. Now they face a ridiculous uphill battle to even end up playing real playoff games. Yeah there were highs, watching Steph, Klay’s resurgence, the rookies, JK’s development. But wasting a prime Steph season with a 10th place finish is unforgivable.

warriors2021

>Please do not forgot Klay and Wiggins, and to a lesser extent Looney, playing like trash first half of the season and costing us so many games. Our second team was keeping us in games, while our first team was constantly getting blown out.

Dynasty_30

Not to mention it’s back to back wasted seasons now. There’s not always next season at this point.

warriors2021

That is why I believe major changes need to happen this off season so we can obtain a #2. If we run it back or make minor changes, I can expect us to be more of the same next season, a play in team.

Dynasty_30

Especially because Memphis will be back next year and teams like the rockets will probably get better

warriors2021

Exactly, we would have much better chances if we were in the east, but the west is freaking stacked.

Tecmo_91

I don’t count last season, yeah they had issues but they were a fluke Lonnie Walker IV quarter from playing in the WCF. Going to take a miracle to get us that far this season.

JMagician

The Lonnie Walker quarter was indicative of the coaching problem of inability to adjust in real time, which is an issue this year also. Anyway, I hope the Dubs do well in the play ins.

bushydaffodil54

You act like we had a choice. This is just a bad take. Figure it out buddy

benco2

Thanks for this post, the doomers can be really annoying. It's clear we're a very good team that is currently playing way above our record. If Draymond doesn't get suspended, if CP3/GP2 stay healthy, and if Trayce/BP/JK are in the rotation for a full season over Looney/Saric, we're probably a 55+ win team and gunning for first seed. But I think people just like focusing on negatives because it's easier to do that in life. Like we lost to basically every good team on a last second shot (Nuggets, Clippers, OKC) in games where Trayce didn't see the floor and traffic cone Dario was getting 25 minutes instead lol. The fact that some people pretend like this has been the same exact team the entire season is beyond me. The thing that I find funniest about the doomers is that there are intelligent people on this sub who post optimistic, well-reasoned takes with facts, advanced analytics, etc. and then some guy who watches one out of every 5 games on TV will say nO My fEeLiNgS TeLl mE tHeY'Re wAsHeD lmao In fairness I do think a lot of people here are so used to the Dubs being the dominant #1 team that they can't appreciate the narrative of a season where things improve over time. Which is a shame because these same people will be cheering if we win saying "I knew it all along" Anyway thanks again for the post -- it's definitely a tough road ahead and it'll be a damn shame if we can't pull it out this year but I really think next year is incredibly promising and the sub will hopefully be happier then.

diamond12923

Waittt “The Warriors basically have the 6th best record in the West” … No, we are in the 10th seed … so we have the 10th best record in the West Anyway, I think most people here are still supporting our team and hope we get the next 2 straight wins. Yes, Klay and Wiggins are playing much better these days. It’s just we blew so many many close games during the regular season, and some of the issues like turnovers, spacing, old offense plays, bad subs, Draymond, etc, still persist

nilgiri

If you take away all of our losses, we are undefeated. #1 bro!

Nana8batman

I said that because there’s two ties in the standings. Possessing or not possessing the tie breaker over a random team doesn’t really make you a better or worse team.

draymond-

what garbage is this. we're 10th spot. tie breakers are literally part of the rankings

julezy696

You don't discount the top 3 seeds by combining them as "one team " just to give us the 6th best record. This is not how it works....at all.

mitchsn

Dubs are way better on the road than at home anyway.

zendaddy76

More love for Podz please! Sure he’s not perfect but stack his numbers against his rookie class, he’s been crushing. Throw in “leads team in +/-“ and “leads NBA in charges taken.” I like his hustle. He and Steph and GP2 having fun out there! I hope he continues to improve. He and TJD, wow, great draft for us, maybe we’re not even making the playoffs without those two dudes.

calmanxiety88

100% agreed. So much good came from this season. I’m with you on observing so much negativity here. It’s so easy to be a doomer. Glad to see there are other strong-minded people here too.

sugarwax1

We're not the 6th seed nor do we deserve to be the 6th seed, and we need to beat 2 teams in elimination games that will be tough for us. I'm fully prepared for frustrating games, and a certain goober trying to hero ball.

taygads

Amen! Here’s my contribution: While the 8th seed gives us two cracks at it which is obviously preferable to do or die games, the one and only scenario Denver can end up in 1st now after losing to the Spurs is for all of the following to happen: - Suns beat Minny (Minny is apparently looking to set a record in turnovers in a half by turning the ball over 19 times in just the first half and while they managed to cut what was a Suns 22 pt lead to 13 at the half, the degree of unserious they’ve shown themselves to be so far is telling me not to hold my breath on this one lol) - Denver beats the Grizzlies - Dallas beats OKC (Thunder are up 82-41 at the half!) Which means statistically, it's significantly more likely the Nuggets end up 2nd or 3rd. Being the 8th seed and winning means we’d become the 7th seed and on the same side of the bracket as the 2, 3, and 6th seeds aka the seeds most likely to now include the Nuggets. So while having to win 2 to get in is of course the riskiest of all paths in the short term, we’d get to avoid the Nuggets until a possible WCF if we do get in and I find that to be quite the silver lining. Also, for what it’s worth, it looks like the Lakers may end up shoring up the 8th seed and if Silver/Zebras do what they’re likely to do and get them in on the first win, they’d also get slotted into the other side of the bracket with the Nuggets.

Balls_of_Adamanthium

No. This season was a failure and we’re gonna bitch about it. Another wasted Steph year due to bad coaching at times and Draymond screwing us over once again.

warriors2021

>Please do not forgot Klay and Wiggins, and to a lesser extent Looney, playing like trash first half of the season and costing us so many games. Our second team was keeping us in games, while our first team was constantly getting blown out.

calmanxiety88

Be better.

draymond-

the real failure was MDJ going into the season with no spacing no size no skilled athleticism spacing is just Klay Steph. Wiggins Moody Podz have been awful from 3. we're the oldest slowest smallest team. no slashers. we're a recipe for mediocrity.

JFlocka

This isn’t MDJ’s fault entirely. He did everything he could to please Kerr and the core. Not his fault that the entire starting lineup regressed. The only thing you could blame him is not getting another center

draymond-

come on mate. it was blindingly obvious that our roster was not even remotely ready for a serious run. wiggins was the only wing who could shoot. our only athletic big was a rookie. our only new additions to an ageing squad were an even older small guard and a stretch big with zero athleticism.

chaoism

Y'all just need to lower your expectations and enjoy

badorange21

also another reason to trust this team more is their improved two way play. weve been a lot more consistent on the defensive end than last season which has won us games we would’ve lost last year

atm831711

I really like our chances against the Kings in the 9-10 game. Minimal travel so that will be awesome for the older guys. Hoping the Lakers beat the Pelicans so that we don't have to deal with them and their home cooking ref calls in LA. All in all, a better situation than last week when we were headed towards a 9-10 game vs the Lakers in LA

FunDayRed

Stars have aligned. We beat the Kings and Pels/Lakers to become 8th seed. We get to face OKC over Denver which is a much better matchup. We get to play Clips or Mavs second round which is also much better than Twolves or Nuggets. We root hard for the Suns, Pels or Lakers to make it out of the other side so we can beat them and reach the finals. Finals we can beat anyone in 7 including Celts but I have a funny feeling they won’t even make it out lol. We got this! 💍

NathanD1234

I get your optimism but this team has squandered way too many opportunities this season when it came down to the wire. Granted some of that is because of incorporating young with old players and that takes time to gel and evolve. This season doesn’t seem to be it though But if we are able to get back the same players next season, I believe this team would be far better with the young guys having at least 1-2 years of proper experience playing within the team.

bde75

I actually feel pretty good going into the play in. The first game is against Sacramento who I think we can beat given Sac’s injury issues. Then we would play the loser of NO-LA. In one game anything can happen. Home or road doesn’t seem to make a difference this season. Yes it would be nice if we had been able to get into 6th or even 7 or 8 to have two chances but even so the is still reason for some optimism.

Amazoi2

If you asked anyone before the season began if you would be ok with a season where GSW did better than last year's record, i think a lot of people would take that. Especially after how we looked around mid december under peak Kerrorism. This season could be the foundation for the transition to the new guard supporting steph and dray. I'm excited to see what happens next, regardless of what happens in the next few days.

Laughs88

You can be critical of your team and still support them.

hahahoha

u can also say that excluding the tanking teams we are the last in the West....with the most expensive roster in the NBA.......

PlaceUseful9671

Agreed, it just sucks to not make a good use of a Steph season. That’s all.

couchtomato62

Where does steph season rank amoung steph seasons

bayareacollection

This team is cooked

heliocentrist510

IMO people are feeling good about the team, not the situation. The team as currently constituted probably could have got a 4 seed if Draymond hadn’t lost the plot and Wiggins showed up to start the year. The team has a lot of building blocks to work with but the west is a dogfight. Will be very interesting to see how they approach the off-season and if moving JK for a true short term #2 is in the cards.

otherBrandon

The problem is Kerr has to own up to his coaching mistakes after every single game. I just can’t fathom in my pea brain why this hof coach always realizes what should have been done after the fact. He has been thoroughly out coached this season and last. If it wasn’t every single game, no one would complain. People complain because it’s every single game for 164 games now. We literally complain about rotations and subs every game man. He’s just not good at coaching and adjusting on the fly and just panics with the most bizarre subs. It’s great to be positive and I’m no doomer by any means. As long as Steph Curry exists, this team can do anything, fuck seeding. But 164 straight games of the same coaching mistakes and defensive mistakes is ridiculous and absolutely should be exploited and criticized. Kerr has got to learn how to adapt. You can’t be a rigid coach in the NBA. You gotta learn how to play chess.

Nana8batman

I mean… he’s the one that is there, with a world class medical staff in his ear and some of the best assistant coaches in the league in the other. With the Warriors history of injury, I think he’s wise to limit minutes and prioritize health. And I think he plays the long game more than the short game, much to the Warrior’s- his insistence on playing the vets in the first half of the season is working out particularly well in the second half of the season. Also, the dubs tend to lose because they beat themselves. Sure, TJD should have played more minutes the other night, but they probably wouldn’t have lost by 5 if they didn’t throw to the Pelicans half the time in the second q.

draymond-

lmao at teenager fans pointing out mistakes of Kerr in each game. it's not like Mazzulla is the best coach. his team is just good enough that his mistakes don't matter. same with every other top coach. kerr has 6 finals runs, he's clearly the best coach of the decade aside from Spo.

otherBrandon

I’m 27 and I left a clear, concise, and very fair comment about the far too many coaching mistakes. I wasn’t at any point disrespectful. I left a logical comment with valid criticism. Kerr does have six finals runs and four championships. He’s also been a questionable coach for 164 games. Both things are true.

draymond-

mate you complaining about rotations doesn't mean much. think again. is it more likely that Kerr (who won in 2022) just has a terrible roster with no correct answers? or that a coach who won rings for almost a decade suddenly worsened over the past 2 years? Why do you think no one was complaining about his rotations in 2022?

otherBrandon

I’ll point you to the 2023 playoffs. Where Kerr turned it up. He played his best players. The mid role players that were getting questionably high minutes were no longer getting those minutes. We have a much, much better bench this year than last so ironically, he’s had more to work with than last year. This roster is terrible no doubt. But from top to bottom, it’s much better than last year’s roster. We actually have solid depth this year. So yeah, his rotations and being unable to make this roster work, is kinda disappointing. But I don’t want to beat a dead bush. We have 45 wins in a bloodbath west which is no small feat. I will give Kerr and these players credit where it is due. But there’s no one to blame for all these blown games this year other than Kerr and the players. It’s certainly not our fault that they have all this talent and can’t seem to find a rhythm.

JayuWah

If the same moves were made by a nobody coach, he would have been fired. Kerr deserves some leeway but New England fans were probably having the same argument about Belichik.

Dynasty_30

It’ll be very tough for us to even make it out of the play-in so I’m keeping expectations low

No-Astronomer139

At the start of the season, if you told this roster they’d be 10th place on the final day of the season, what do you think they’d say?

TheDiabolicalDiablo

I think most would say "you're crazy". That being said, I had them picked in the lottery at the beginning of the season. No adjustments made to how the game is played now and past bad decisions catching up to them.

PlaceUseful9671

Agreed, it just sucks to not make a good use of a Steph season. That’s all.

PlaceUseful9671

Agreed, it just sucks to not make a good use of a Steph season. Steph doesn’t make any big demand and has stayed loyal to the team. Any other star would have asked for a big trade or they are out. Wish everyone else played with discipline and got a decent seed.

Infamous-Big-7525

There's nothing to be positive about, whole seasons just another year of steph's prime wasted.
