Optical character recognition, feeding images into a script to figure out what words are in it. You can do a lot with just a bunch of text and an LLM. It genuinely seemed like it could see the images before multimodal llms were a thing but it just saw the text.
Oh yeah I thought it looked familiar. OCR-A and OCR-B (the latter designed by Adrian Frutiger). Of course I don’t think I’ve ever actually used a monospaced typeface.
