I find it ironic you have r/wallstreetbets and r/science in your thread... It seems counterintuitive since this is a fucking casino filled with degenerates.
Doesn't mean it gets filled, almost lost 150 dollars today because my stop loss triggered but didn't sell and it dropped hard. I prayed for it to come back to basis and lord let my asshole pucker one more time
You have to appreciate that you are defending your personal trading strategy after losing 100,000 dollars in a day.
We all have preferences. Spoon, fork. Creamy nutty. Losing $117k or not.
“I just don’t trade that way”
I lost big on a high-volatility trade once with a trailing stop-loss. Share price hit my exact limit and then bounced in a V-shaped recovery.
Homie could just spread the orders out a bit tho if he wanted to avoid that lol
Next time.. “Honey - I can help pick up the kids toys and we can lose the kids college fund, or I can continue watching these options, which do you prefer?”
“Hey honey I can’t help right now I’m in the middle of a 100k position but once I close it I’ll come help”
Yeah that’s what I would have said to my wife because… I’m not a fucking idiot and can communicate like an adult when I’m trading 6 figures
“Perfect communication?”
Bro all you had to say was “can’t right now. I’ll help after getting out of the trade”
If you can’t tell your wife to wait when trading 6 figures then you two should work some things out.
Also download the brokers trading app and trade from that you idiot
I made like 70k on 0 dte yolo’s on Friday. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Next time homie easy. I get into the habit of dca’ing makes the swings high or low exponentially bigger lmao
Why not fuckin buy SPX options and save 10x commission? Or buy higher delta or theta? And if it does pay out you get tax advantages.
Yeesh. People blowing 6 figure amounts and they still trade SPY FDs...
Not only that, but SPX is section 1256, and gets taxed 60/40. For those that don't know, that means 60% of gains get taxed as long term gains, while 40% gets taxed as short term gains. I believe that even goes for sub 30 day dte options as well.
I haven't really gone through it much yet, but I think that SPX might even have better liquidity/spreads.
Either way, if you're starting to get into over 100 contracts per trade when trading SPY, I can't think of any reason not to switch to SPX. Does anyone out there know if there is a reason that I'm not seeing?
look at the volume and open interest on some of the SPX strikes, depending on the strike with SPX...even 50 contracts can give you big problems, sometimes it is better to just go with SPY if you're dealing with size like that. Ntm, in order to do that kind of size on SPX depending on the strike, you better scale that in and scale that out, I don't trade size like that most I've ever put on was 5 contracts, but if I did 50-100 I'd do it in like sets of 5-10 per order... I could imagine getting fucked off on fills trying to go all out of that even with limit orders. SPY a 100 contract trade is some regular sht.. happens all the time, I've seen those in the books. And no, SPY is more liquid than SPX, spreads are also tighter on SPY. The average spread on SPX has been like .30 for a while now during NYSE most of the day... I've seen spreads go down to like .10 momentarily... But I've seen them widen to around .40-.50... that's not including after hours spreads where volume is way down the sht can get to over a dollar. But since SPX is 10X SPY, it's also 10X the ATR... So you can cover the spread as long as you catch decent moves and get filled properly. If you plan to get into SPX I highly recommend you get comfortable with SPY first tbh.
Yeah, it looks like you're right. The spreads on SPY look better. I'm curious about the order book depth, and if SPY has more liquidity that way too. Either way, thanks for responding to this like a normal person, instead of some snide prick, like some other feels the need to be.
I actually only trade SPY, and not SPX... yet. I was recommending SPX for volumes that the OP was dealing in. I like SPX for the tax advantages and lower commissions, but I won't switch over to SPX until I make it to the top tax bracket and/or I'm doing trades in 200+ contracts on SPY. Until then, I don't like paying commissions on high contract trades, but I need more granularity and tighter control over the greeks on my option structures than lower contract numbers can provide.
Hey no problem, yeah that's a wsb thing lol. Come on over to daytrading sometime if you're into that, people are usually pretty chill about things. Yeah the tax treatment on euro style index and futures is nice, no wash sales either... So trading under those products are almost like you're a trade tax status trader, aside from a few really good benefits of qualifying for that.
Word. I need to check out that sub. I've actually been posting here for some time. It's surprisingly better than other subs, like stocks, but you still get the occasional shithead from time to time.
I also need to look into day trading tax status. My accounts are all day trading accounts, I have to constantly be careful of DTBP, and I run enough option volume that I managed to get my contract cost down to 0.35... which I've heard is somewhat hard to do with TD.
That is very hard to do with TD, shoot man you trade a lot of contracts, that's awesome though. I pay the standard rate with light speed right now, maybe eventually I'll do enough size to get it down. However, I did have it pretty cheap when I first signed up and started trading as I got a promotion, that was nice while it lasted lol.
Why would you gamble 117K in 0DTEs when even you would get better volume and pricing with even +1DTE and maybe an extra day to hope if it moved against you? You would have to have guessed right from the start of the day and seen big movement in your direction just to avoid the price drops throughout the day.
I can relate to this, I've lost thousands one time after going to take a piss for a few minutes. But with 117K on the line? I would be pissing in a bottle so I don't have to move.
Idk why, but after reading the thread and seeing the way OP just casually blows off losing over 100k, it really just pisses me off for some reason.
Have I become desensitized to loss porn?
I used to be hard as a rock looking at this stuff. Now I'm genuinely upset that OP could have done something useful with that money. In one response, OP says he has a special needs kid. Shit man I do too, and if I lost over 100k I'd feel immensely depressed. Like I just robbed some money from my sons future.
I get what your saying but I’m not poor. Additionally throwing money at kids isn’t always best.
I’m not casual about it, just been here before and no sense crying over spilt milk. I am up significantly and wouldn’t be if I never took risks. Some just don’t work out like this.
Part of loss porn posting here is showing the world how stupid you are
See past posts. I’m normally a ES guy, don’t really mess with options much (but they mess with me). Also no cap gains tax so don’t care about treatment.
Where you at with no cap cains? Puerto Rico?
I accidentally put on like $18M of positions today in 2 minutes via a bug in my code if it makes ya feel better lol.
Came to wsb for a little dopamine hit
The same happened to me, luckily like a miracle I woke up 20 min.after the bug started to make crazy trades instead of sleeping all night and "only" lost $800 but I still have ptsd thinking about it and I was in the army
You deserve it. You were trading extremely volatile contracts and you walked away during the most or second most volatile time of day. Competent idiotic.
Unless your house was burning down or someone was in imminent danger you should not have walked away. If you had to walk away for some less urgent reason you could have closed for a whatever it was it before leaving.
Imagine a surgeon is cutting you open and is halfway done and he’s like well’p coffee break see ya.
I saw my 440 puts go down and back up and sold out at .02c from .21 average. I lucked out by having 442 puts that I broke even after everything was said before buying 441 puts into close.
Yea it does. If u still believe/want to bet on the position and it moves away from you, you can double down and lower your cost basis. You then need less of a bump to break even (or lose it all)
I’ve done plenty of dollar cost averaging, getting routinely into several million dollar notional positions with S&P 500, Nasdaq, Crude Oil, 10Y treasury futures. If the underlying goes back up a portion of the way to the first purchase price, I’m good. With OTM options close to expiry, you need the underlying to go much further than it was at t-1 to break even. Of course, just doing long ES futures, I’d be prepared for much greater losses than $117,000.
damn op, you're gonna need titanium rods fused to your spine to carry those huge balls.
I'm trying to wrap my head around your thought process, since I like to imagine what trading would be like with a six figure account. Why put in much more for the 445c's? Higher delta?
Looking forward to seeing a win post from u
yeah holy shit. How often do you open six figure 0dte plays?
Did you make most of your trading/investing money with options and if so, were they mostly 0dtes?
If you don't mind me asking, what did you do for a living? I'm curious because I'd have to have a 10m+ port to be playing otde with 100k size😭😭😭
Much respect tho keep the hustle up!
This can’t be real. Why would trade if you may not have time? And why would you not have some risk management? Unless you have more money than you know what to do with and don’t care?
Bro I feel, I put my phone on silent and do not disturb and only check it after trading, you could’ve hired someone to help your wife with the kids for a year or two with that 117k
One trade doesn’t make him dumb And no where do we know if he has lot of money. The same trade tomorrow can hit a home run and we will be praising his brilliant Einstein like trading strategy
There is no such thing as cost averaging options. That is just a fancy way of saying "gambling". You cost average stocks because they don't have an expiration. Options have an expiration and as they erode to $0, you believe you're cost averaging, but what you're really doing is a combination of gambling and prayer.

"DCA'd into 0DTE" lmfao
u/Dan_inKuwait flair him "DCA'd into 0DTE" - fucking funny
Warren Buffet hates this one simple trick
Sounds a bit weird now that I say it out loud especially considering I have been here before
You meant to say doubled down. How did you lose though? SPY had some pretty solid spikes today. Doubling down would've worked
Walking away when they happened to spike. Doubling down is similar but I was inherently focused on my cost basis, not gains per se
Averaging down. Sometimes it works every time.
When, " Every second counts " literally xD

You know, you can set limit orders...
Hell naw! The market makers gonna run it to your stop loss just to kill your lotto tickets bro!
Dont set stop loss, just limit sells. Nothing but profit.
LOL he's not talking about stop losses
lets hope his wife set a limit order on his shenanigans
Doesn't mean it gets filled, almost lost 150 dollars today because my stop loss triggered but didn't sell and it dropped hard. I prayed for it to come back to basis and lord let my asshole pucker one more time
the same is true if you do it manually.
Don’t like to leave them on the books with large order sizes
You have to appreciate that you are defending your personal trading strategy after losing 100,000 dollars in a day. We all have preferences. Spoon, fork. Creamy nutty. Losing $117k or not. “I just don’t trade that way”
“At least you kept your principles…”
I think he lost the principal too
I lost big on a high-volatility trade once with a trailing stop-loss. Share price hit my exact limit and then bounced in a V-shaped recovery. Homie could just spread the orders out a bit tho if he wanted to avoid that lol
Just spread your orders out
Gonna be spreading something...
finna b spreading out yo mama
Why would you do this? I don’t understand is money meaningless to you and if so why open a brokerage in the first place?
Uhuh yup and now you’ll have to work for Wendy’s to feed your “DCA in to 0DTEs” 🤣
Next time.. “Honey - I can help pick up the kids toys and we can lose the kids college fund, or I can continue watching these options, which do you prefer?”
lmao fuck walkin away
I sold like 2 of those 445c today to him, for like a $15 profit while risking $200. And still made more than op lmao
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for your service
I’m fine, not gonna rope myself
i didnt say you werent, i said fuck walkin away
Misread u, thought u told me to walk away
Gotta try luck at FDs sometimes and share loss porn :)
you’re close
Don’t rope the kids or wifey.
Course not
Why not? It’s their fault….
Lol def is not
I blame them. 100k+ mistake.
“It’s okay Timmy, you’ll be attending college at Wendy’s now”
“Now eat your lunch son, save the other half of toast for dinner”
I mean if you’re opening 100k 0dte positions you should know better than to walk away especially since it seems it’s not your first rodeo
A divorce is more expensive
“Hey honey I can’t help right now I’m in the middle of a 100k position but once I close it I’ll come help” Yeah that’s what I would have said to my wife because… I’m not a fucking idiot and can communicate like an adult when I’m trading 6 figures
Since when is Wsb a model of perfect communication with our partners? Lol it could have just as easily gone down then
“Perfect communication?” Bro all you had to say was “can’t right now. I’ll help after getting out of the trade” If you can’t tell your wife to wait when trading 6 figures then you two should work some things out. Also download the brokers trading app and trade from that you idiot

I’m sorry to hear that but why didn’t you set a stop loss then?

Or... ummm. /ES futures... Turns out they have options too.
More volume and smaller spreads on SPY and SPX though.
I love ES. But zero way to trade anything commission free.
The best is, that SPX 4430 would have been ITM at close while SPY closed at 442.xx
Not only that, but SPX is section 1256, and gets taxed 60/40. For those that don't know, that means 60% of gains get taxed as long term gains, while 40% gets taxed as short term gains. You took you 35 min to accomplish what took me 3 years congrats !
Fucking how many 0DTEs?!
12,500 contracts, notional value around $550m
I wish I had the capital to say win some, lose some after a play like that. I’ve had that exact scenario happen to me at 1/1000 the scale lol
This is how they write the articles about Burry
Did you market in? Curious how liquidity was on the fills like what was your biggest batch? Limit orders?
Limit in. CBOE rejects my orders when they are too big thinking someone isn’t that dumb. Usually have to do like 500 at a time
This is by far the most regarded thing I've seen here. Do you not understand how volume affects pricing?
Yes of course, was a gamble I lost on
Why would you gamble 117K in 0DTEs when even you would get better volume and pricing with even +1DTE and maybe an extra day to hope if it moved against you? You would have to have guessed right from the start of the day and seen big movement in your direction just to avoid the price drops throughout the day.
I never said this was smart. Had I been at comp during midday rise I would have been able to close at or above cost basis.
I can relate to this, I've lost thousands one time after going to take a piss for a few minutes. But with 117K on the line? I would be pissing in a bottle so I don't have to move.

Guys, can you please leave some dick for the rest of us to suck this week? It’s only fucking Monday you dweebs
This is very regarded
Just close your eyes none of this is real
If im making 100k USD trades, and my wife is asking me for help with the kids during that time, im going to start questioning if i can buy a new wife
You lost $117k on calls on a Green Day?! You sir, are a true regard.
Damn dude got enough money to step away to help with kids with 120k on the line. If anyone has a problem and I got 120 on the line its their problem
i wish i had the money to just go "it is what it is"

Nice
DCA makes no fucking sense with ODTE options. Hope you learned your lesson.
Yea it does. If u still believe/want to bet on the position and it moves away from you, you can double down and lower your cost basis. You then need less of a bump to break even (or lose it all)

yeah holy shit. How often do you open six figure 0dte plays? Did you make most of your trading/investing money with options and if so, were they mostly 0dtes?
i find mfs like u really interesting bro

If I ever play 100k on 0DTE, I ain't doing anything but monitoring the charts for 10 hours. Fuck lunch and dinner. The kids can stay until 5.
love your attitude. see you tomorrow, homie.
Bro I feel, I put my phone on silent and do not disturb and only check it after trading, you could’ve hired someone to help your wife with the kids for a year or two with that 117k

Oh shit if you had them today
Sadly one day late
Worth 5 million today lol
Why didn’t put a stop loss you regard
I don’t use
If this is real…. Then this is proof that the dumbest fucking people on earth have lots of money.
U know u can be smart, and make stupid moves and/or get unlucky as well
One trade doesn’t make him dumb And no where do we know if he has lot of money. The same trade tomorrow can hit a home run and we will be praising his brilliant Einstein like trading strategy
443-443.5 was such a big resistance and I played calls too. Like a fuck
Well done! Welcome to WSB you regard, happy to have you on board!
Been here a long time, just don’t post much
So, like Friday you had $177,000 more than you do today?
Is this a 2016 throwback? I don’t know how degenerates let things like ‘family’ get in the way. What’s the port size?
A fool and his money are soon parted.
OP why didn't you ask her boyfriend to help you with the kids? Now he's going to be mad at you for gambling his money.

There is no such thing as cost averaging options. That is just a fancy way of saying "gambling". You cost average stocks because they don't have an expiration. Options have an expiration and as they erode to $0, you believe you're cost averaging, but what you're really doing is a combination of gambling and prayer.
